Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 1
“Finally, I can take a breather…”
Ever since I received the news that both of my parents had passed away in an accident, I hadn’t had a moment to grieve. Between the wake, the funeral, and all the paperwork, I was dizzyingly busy.
I had no siblings or close relatives to rely on. If Kiriyama, my boss, hadn’t stepped in to help me with all sorts of things, I would have mentally crashed early on. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay him.
Then there was the issue of what to do with the house they left behind, my childhood home. Parting with it and having it demolished didn’t sit right with me. Luckily, it wasn’t too far from my workplace, so I decided to move out of my apartment and relocate there.
Now that the move was done, I could finally breathe for the first time in a long while. I didn’t want to do anything anymore.
“Ahhh… Oh, right.”
While lying on the floor absentmindedly, I remembered something I’d been meaning to do once I returned to my parents’ house. Slowly, I stood up and headed to my room on the second floor. I began searching through the shelves where my old game collection was stored.
“Let’s see… Oh, there it is. This one’s supposed to sell for about 20,000 yen, right?”
It was an old game that I’d coincidentally seen featured on a website about rare and valuable games. I’d planned to retrieve it and sell it if I ever came back here.
I hadn’t played it in over 15 years, but I remembered being deeply engrossed in it at the time. No wonder it was now considered a collector’s item.
“Ah, so nostalgic. This one was fun too… Hm? …’Fantasy Legend’?”
While rummaging through the shelves, both to see if there were any other hidden treasures and to reminisce about old times, I stumbled upon a game that didn’t immediately ring a bell. Fantasy Legend.
I didn’t recall ever playing it… Wait, no, I did. It was definitely an RPG. A classic turn-based RPG, if I remembered correctly.
The cover art showed a boy who looked unmistakably like the protagonist, surrounded by seven girls. It was a blatantly obvious harem party.
But I couldn’t remember the story at all. Nor did I have any memory of the characters. Unlike games that became classics and gained cult followings, this one… well, to put it bluntly, it probably wasn’t very good.
Thinking this, I was about to move on to the next game when my eyes caught on a girl with light blue hair drawn next to the protagonist.
“Huh? Isn’t that Millie? The legend of the doujin world is in a place like this…?”
This character, Millie, had a storyline where she was kidnapped and imprisoned by villains.
If I remembered right, the reason for her abduction was some kind of ritual or sacrifice. But in the world of adult fan creators, that plot point became secondary to… other, more dubious scenarios.
Over the years, countless fan creators had depicted her in all sorts of situations. She truly was a legendary character in that world.
I only learned about this through an internet article or post that joked about how many people knew Millie but not the game she came from.
As I marveled at this unexpected discovery, I realized that night had already fallen, and the date had changed.
I decided to postpone cleaning up the room for another time. As I stood up, I accidentally stepped on a cylindrical object lying on the floor.
“Whoa—gah!? …Ugh…”
I fell backward, hitting the back of my head. My consciousness started to fade. Did I just… really mess up?
“Oww…”
My head throbbed as I regained consciousness. The pain was so sharp that it pulled me out of my hazy state.
When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying face down on a white… bed?
I instinctively reached for the area above my left ear, where the pain was strongest. My hand came away sticky.
“Huh…? Is this… blood? …What!? Wait—!”
My hand was coated in bright red blood, and when I sat up, I saw a large bloodstain on the bed as well. The bleeding was severe.
I needed something to press against the wound. And an ambulance.
Panicking, I looked around. However, I found myself in a room I didn’t recognize. Worse, I had no idea where anything was. But there was a maid nearby—
“Excuse me, can you help me with this wound—whoa! What the heck are you!?”
“Eek!”
When I shouted in confusion at the bizarre situation, the maid turned pale and began trembling. She shrank back even further, clearly terrified.
Wait a second. Why was I in an unfamiliar room?
Normally, after a head injury, you’d call an ambulance and end up at the hospital. But this was no hospital. The room was too extravagant. And why was there a maid?
Also, the injury I’d sustained was to the back of my head, but now blood was dripping from the side.
“Geld-sama! What’s wrong? Is something the matter?”
“I’m coming in, Geld-sama! Are you all right!?”
“Huh!?”
The commotion now shifted to the other side of the door. Someone was shouting while banging on it furiously.
What is going on here? I glanced at the maid, but all she could do was mutter, “Ah… ah…” like some incoherent chant while trembling uncontrollably.
As I stood there in a daze, unable to grasp the situation, the door to the room was finally broken down by a massive man in armor slamming into it. Behind him, a procession of people, including an old man in a tailcoat and more maids, poured into the room like an avalanche.
“Ugh! Geld-sama, are you unharmed… Geeeld-sama!?”
“What in the world has… wh… wha… what on earth… Tr-treatment! Quick, get him treated immediately!”
“Y-yes, sir! …’Pef.'”
“Pef?”
The old man in the tailcoat frantically shouted about treatment this and treatment that, which gave me some hope that I was about to be saved. However, the second maid, who appeared to be acting on his orders, simply held her hand above my head and muttered, “Pef,” without doing anything else.
I thought I’d have to handle this myself since nothing seemed to be happening. But before I could act, a faint blue light began to emanate from her hand. Stunned by the surreal sight, I realized that my headache was gradually subsiding.
This… this felt like magic—healing magic, no less. And “Pef”… it sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it.
“There, all better now. So then… Shino! What happened here!?”
“U-uhm… I… I…”
After confirming that my injury had been healed, the old man turned to the first maid, who had been in the room all along, and demanded an explanation. It seemed her name was Shino.
Looking at her again, I noticed how her frightened expression only added to her charm… or rather, she was an unbelievably beautiful girl. Her disheveled maid outfit made her look… well, let’s just say, very provocative.
I was just about to remember something about “Pef,” but the sight of Shino completely blew it from my mind. She was adorable.
“L-Lord Geld tried to… uhm… force himself on me… and in the panic, I…”
Huh. Just when I thought she was trembling in fear, it turned out this had happened. If what she says is true, then this Geld guy is a despicable scumbag. Sure, anyone might be tempted in front of such a cute girl, but forcing yourself on her is absolutely out of the question.
“Wha-what!? Geld-sama! Is this true!?”
The old man, flustered, turned to face me, his gaze piercing.
The armored man was staring at me too. So was the second maid.
I glanced behind me, but there was no one else there.
“…Huh? Geld?”
I pointed to myself and tilted my head in confusion. Was I… Geld?
“Th-this cannot be…”
“What on earth…?”
The old man and the others looked utterly dumbfounded.
And honestly, I was just as confused.
How did it come to this?
