Chapter 13: Goals

The day after it was decided that Sheila would stay here.

The peaceful time continued, and it felt like the best morning I’ve had since coming to this other world.

Although I planned to go about my daily life as usual, now that Sheila had officially decided to stay, I thought it might be a good time to set some goals.

While it’s nice to live carefree, I wanted to aim for something, even if it was something laid-back.

As I prepared breakfast for the two of us, I thought about it.

Just as breakfast was ready, Sheila woke up.

“Good morning, Sato-san. Hehe, it smells delicious.”

“It’s bacon and fried eggs. Please eat while it’s hot—although, before we eat, could I talk to you about something?”

“Another talk? After yesterday, I’m a bit apprehensive… It’s not bad news, is it?”

“I didn’t think yesterday’s conversation was bad news, but no, this isn’t bad news. I was thinking of setting a goal for living here and wanted to decide on it together with you.”

“A goal? Like building a nation of your own, Sato-san?”

“Nothing that grand! I’ve come up with three ideas for goals. The first is to create a large farm. Right now, we have fields, but they’re mainly to increase NP. This goal would involve creating farmland without relying on skills and turning this whole area into a farm.”

Currently, I was living off the food provided by the royal castle.

I occasionally used NP to buy Japanese ingredients and cooked with them, but the cost was too high to do it every day.

So, I wanted to create fields not reliant on skills and grow vegetables and fruits for consumption or to sell for this world’s currency.

Though, to be honest, just managing the skill-based fields was already a handful.

“A large farm! That sounds so exciting. But I think it’d be tough for just the two of us, so we’d need more hands to help.”

“We’d need to consult with the king about that. There’s also the issue of whether we’re even allowed to turn this area into a farm.”

“That’s true. But it’s exciting! What’s the second idea?”

“The second idea is to create something like a monster ranch. It would require using NP, but I was thinking of purchasing monsters like Lime and increasing the number of familiars to create a ranch. While I can’t contribute to defeating the Demon King, monsters could potentially become a valuable fighting force.”

As a fan of the Dragon Quest series, especially Terry’s Wonderland and Cobi’s Journey, I’d always been fascinated by gathering monsters to form a party.

While fusion probably wasn’t possible here, unlike the games where only three to four monsters could fight simultaneously, this world didn’t have such limits. I believed they could potentially become a force capable of threatening the Demon King.

Even if they didn’t become a fighting force, monsters like Lime could excel in other fields.

Creating a monster ranch was one of the things I wanted to try.

Though, it would take a lot of NP, so it felt like a distant future goal.

“A monster ranch… I’d normally say I couldn’t support that without hesitation, but after seeing Lime, I can’t deny the possibility. If strong monsters could become as loyal as Lime, it’s exciting! I think it could definitely help with defeating the Demon King. Depending on the types and numbers of monsters, they might even surpass the summoned heroes as a fighting force.”

“I’m relieved to hear you say that. I thought the people of this world would inherently distrust monsters and that rumors of me gathering a lot of them might lead to accusations of being part of the Demon King’s army.”

“Ah, well, there’s definitely that risk. But if you report it to the king beforehand, it should be fine—probably! So, what’s the third idea?”

It was a bit of a risky idea.

I’d need to meet with the king to discuss it thoroughly.

“The third idea is to collect things from other worlds and turn this place into a resort. Well, calling it a resort might be an exaggeration, but I want to experiment with growing ingredients from other worlds here so we can always enjoy otherworldly cuisine. I’d also like to gather entertainment from other worlds to make this a place where people can relax and enjoy themselves while earning money.”

“Being able to eat otherworldly cuisine anytime!? That’s amazing! I love it!”

Sheila, clearly the most enthusiastic about this idea, leaned forward on the table with excitement.

I quickly moved our breakfast aside and calmly continued the discussion.

“This would also require the king’s permission, as I’d essentially be trying to turn this area into a resort without authorization.”

“Even so, we should do it! Food supplies are running low, and we should head back to the capital to discuss this with the king.”

“Before that, we need to choose one goal. I think I already know what your favorite is, but I feel like the third option might not be the most practical.”

It wasn’t clear whether Japanese vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers could even grow in this world.

Trying it would take courage, as NP was limited, and if it turned out they only grew in skill-based fields, the idea would become almost impossible.

As for entertainment, while books and manga might be fine, games and movies required electricity. Even if I purchased them, they might be unusable in this world.

According to Sheila, the concept of electricity existed here, but the primary energy source seemed to be magic power.

“If I had to choose from the three, the third option definitely sounds the most appealing, but… is it necessary to pick just one?”

“Uh… you mean to try all three?”

“Yes. All three ideas are appealing, and I think we should aim to do them all.”

“I honestly hadn’t considered that idea.

It’s not impossible, but even pursuing just one goal would be challenging… and it feels like it strays too far from the peaceful countryside life I envisioned.

The biggest issue is NP. If we aim for all three, I really don’t think we’ll have enough.

As I crossed my arms and wracked my brain, Sheila followed up with more words of encouragement.

“It’s just a goal, after all. Let’s think of it lightly! If we can’t achieve them, then we can just continue with our current life.”

“…You’re right. No need to overthink it. Let’s treat these goals as something big to aim for—and move forward casually to achieve them.”

“Yes! I’ll help out as well! First… we should head to the royal capital soon. Negotiating with the king is the top priority.”

“True. From now on, let’s focus only on harvesting and stop planting new seeds for the time being. That way, we’ll be able to leave for a few days to visit the capital and also get a chance to explore it.”

With that, our discussion came to an end.

After quickly finishing breakfast, we threw ourselves into farm work with renewed determination to make up for the time we’d spent talking.

Having set clear goals gave me even more excitement, and consulting Sheila turned out to be a great decision.

Now, I’m just genuinely looking forward to visiting the royal capital.

I also want to reunite with the other heroes who were summoned alongside me—it’s been a while.

If they’re struggling with food, maybe I can cook something for them using Japanese ingredients.
