Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 14: Live on. Even if you’re trash.

The Blue Witch, who had painted the ground white and heralded an early winter, came charging in at an incredible speed.

One moment, I spotted her in the distance beyond the residential area. The next, she was rocketing toward me like a black bullet, coming to a screeching halt right before my eyes. A split second later, the wind caught up, shattering the frost pillars and scattering the fragments into the air like diamond dust.

Backlit by the sparkling diamond dust glistening in the sunlight, the Blue Witch looked otherworldly. Even the familiar tattered black robes, her mask, and the Kyanos staff all somehow seemed ridiculously cool.

Wh-why is my heart racing? What is this feeling…?!

As I tried to analyze the bizarre emotional glitch happening within me—reminding myself how couples can fall for each other in high-stress situations—the Blue Witch suddenly wrapped me in her arms. She hugged me tightly, her voice trembling.

“You’re alive…!”

Her voice overflowed with joy, yet it wavered like she was about to cry, like a lost child reunited with their parent.

Normally, being held so closely and restrained like this would freak me out, but her arms were shaking so helplessly that sympathy overpowered my fear.

I get it.

Of course, she must’ve been scared.

I know the Blue Witch once lost her protégés to some scumbag wizard from Iruma. That tragedy must have been a deep wound, and my abduction probably hit her trauma head-on, throwing her into turmoil.

This wasn’t a hero rescuing a princess.

This was a worried parent rushing to save their kidnapped child. Mom?!

As we were sharing this emotional reunion hug, the tactless dragon, clearly ready to bolt, said in a panicked voice:

“I-I’ll give him back! I’m sorry! I didn’t know he was your man!”

“Excuse me?”

The Blue Witch, who had been anxiously checking me for injuries, immediately dropped any trace of compassion and glared at the dragon with a voice so low it seemed to come from the depths of the earth.

The atmosphere grew heavy and ice-cold, sinking rapidly with such intensity it almost felt like an audible thud.

Even though the killing intent wasn’t directed at me, my teeth chattered uncontrollably. I couldn’t even tell anymore if it was from fear or the cold.

If I was this shaken, the Dragon Witch, who was the direct target of her fury, shrank back, her tail curling up in fright.

“Eek! I-I wouldn’t have taken him if I knew he was your man! This is all a big misunderstanding! A terrible accident!”

“Don’t say disgusting things. He’s my friend.”

“Huh? The Blue Witch has friends?”

“Wait, I’m your friend?”

“……”

The Blue Witch pressed a hand to her head as if trying to stave off a headache, her silence louder than words.

What’s with that reaction? Friend? This is news to me. Did you get my permission for that? Are you my mom or my friend? Pick one already!

“Dragon Witch, there is no room for leniency. Just this incident alone is enough for you to die a thousand deaths, but your other crimes are countless—”

“Wait, don’t just gloss over this! Did you just say we’re friends? Friends? Are we friends? But, like, huh? I mean, it doesn’t feel bad, but it doesn’t feel particularly good either. So, are we friends then? Since when? When did we become friends? Yesterday? The day before? And isn’t friendship usually established through mutual consent? Is it enough if I just go, ‘Yeah, okay, we’re friends,’ and that’s it? Oh, and that whole ‘friendship fees’ thing, that’s just an urban legend, right? Right? It’s not like that, right?”

“Shut up, social misfit. We’ll discuss that later.”

She dismissed me with a genuinely irritated tone, so I quietly zipped my lips.

Well, fair enough. I mean, I’d like to hear her take on the “can men and women just be friends?” debate, but now’s clearly not the time.

The Blue Witch leveled her Kyanos staff at her hip and issued a declaration of absolute zero.

“Dragon Witch, I will execute you. Consider it a courtesy between witches. If you don’t resist, I’ll make it quick.”

“……!!!”

Her voice left no room for interpretation—it wasn’t a threat; it was a promise of death.

The Dragon Witch, surprisingly nimble for her massive body, snatched up the Octa meteorite and the red magic stone, Meteor Flame, with both hands. The ground trembled as she leaped into the air.

That damn woman—she’s trying to escape!

The wind pressure from the dragon’s takeoff alone knocked me off my feet, but the Blue Witch stood firm without even a twitch.

She raised her Kyanos staff and began chanting a spell, aiming at the dragon, who was speeding away like a rocket launch.

“The miasma that spews from this beast, the ×××× of pure white, engulfs the world of Vaarla, blanketing it with Pltrae, as if adding a new season, Matta Gittagaida.”

Above the dragon, high in the sky where the Kyanos staff pointed, a massive white vortex suddenly materialized. Swirling violently, it engulfed the dragon and dragged it back down to the ground.

The dragon struggled desperately, flapping its wings in an attempt to fly away, but it was futile. The icy magic spread relentlessly, freezing its wings solid.

I quickly hid behind the Blue Witch to shield myself from the frigid storm. Judging by the effects, she was controlling the spell to keep the range focused, but even the residual impact was overwhelming.

By the time the dragon’s nest was entirely coated in frost, and the surrounding area had transformed into a silver-white world, the Dragon Witch was utterly drained. She shivered like a helpless fish on a cutting board, her will completely broken.

Serves you right. Sensei, finish her off already!

“Ugh! Even the volcano ×××××, unable to endure the starlight Kiakiya, is Roowori…”

“Frozen spear magic, Do Vaarla!”

The Dragon Witch tried to chant some spell as a last-ditch effort, but her jaw was struck by a rapid volley of ice spears, silencing her mid-incantation.

Damn, that was incredible. The same magic I know feels like a completely different beast in her hands. Even accounting for the power boost from the Kyanos staff, her sheer skill is on another level.

“Ugh… P-please stop… I surrender…”

Her jaw chattering and her speech slurred, the Dragon Witch finally waved a figurative white flag. The Blue Witch snorted in disdain.

During this entire battle—or rather, punishment—a crowd had gathered from the nearby residential area.

No, wait, not just a random crowd. It looked more like the city’s emergency response team. They were armed with crossbows and metal-reinforced bats, clad in leather vests reinforced with metal plates.

“Hey, what’s going on? What kind of monster are we dealing with?”

“Well, it doesn’t seem to be a monster attack this time…”

“Wait, is that a witch? That’s the Blue Witch, isn’t it?!”

“Even the witch looks frozen solid!”

“Man, this is bad. Really bad…”

“Yeah, it’s over. Squad A, fall back and get the women and children to safety.”

Despite witnessing the near-apocalyptic display of inhuman magic power, the crowd remained calm, albeit cautious.

Wow, survivors of the Gremlin Disaster are built different. Sure, only the bravest fighters must’ve shown up, but still, that takes serious guts.

While the crowd watched from a distance, unsure of what to do, the half-frozen Dragon Witch began to grovel pathetically for her life.

“I-I’ll give you half of my treasure if you let me go! So please spare me!”

“……Haa.”

“Half isn’t enough? Fine, a quarter will do!”

Why the hell is it going down? Don’t get stingy with your treasure now!

Even the Blue Witch seemed exasperated by such a pitiful attempt at negotiation. Without bothering to respond, she silently raised her Kyanos staff again.

Desperate to cling to life, the Dragon Witch dragged her half-frozen body in a feeble attempt to flee.

The Blue Witch took a deep breath, preparing to chant her execution spell. Just then, a pudgy middle-aged man came barreling through the crowd. His belly jiggled as he ran, pushing his way between the two witches.

It was Mr. Zaizen.

Hey, Zaizen-san! It’s dangerous there!

The Blue Witch clicked her tongue in irritation.

“You’re in the way. Move.”

“You must be the Blue Witch, yes? It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Zaizen, and I handle administrative tasks in the Dragon Witch’s territory.”

“Ah… I see. Sorry for the trouble. I’ll inform the Eyeball Witch about the cleanup afterward. Soon enough, this area will probably be absorbed into the management zone of another witch. Don’t worry about what happens after she dies.”

Though her tone softened slightly, Zaizen-san spread his plump arms wide and stood his ground even more firmly.

“I don’t claim to understand your circumstances, Blue Witch, but could you please spare her? It’s not the loss of a guardian that concerns me. The Dragon Witch is, well, quite the eccentric, but in her own way, she’s kept us fed, protected us, and saved many lives. We owe her. I beg you—please spare her life.”

The Blue Witch listened to his plea, then cast a glance at the crowd.

The gathered townspeople whispered among themselves for a moment before nodding in agreement.

They weren’t quick to nod, but in the end, they did. That hesitation alone speaks volumes about the Dragon Witch’s usual behavior.

Ugh. Seriously? Even a thieving, kidnapping, garbage-tier dragon like her has some level of goodwill?

Not me, though. I think we should end her right here and now. If she survives, she’ll definitely cause more trouble.

But hey, I’m just an observer. It’s the Blue Witch’s decision. I’m not in a position to interfere, especially after needing her to come rescue me in the first place.

The Dragon Witch’s fate rests solely on the Blue Witch’s whim.

As the Blue Witch contemplated, the Dragon Witch, buoyed by her newfound support, grinned triumphantly.

“That’s right! Yes, Zaizen! Tell her more! Killing me would be a loss to the entire world!”

“Witch-sama, I must humbly ask that you shut up and rest for now.”

“……Haa. Fine. I’ll spare her life. But she needs to understand this with her body. I’m taking one of her legs.”

“Ah, by all means. That’s perfectly fine.”

When the Blue Witch rolled up her sleeves, Zaizen-san promptly stepped aside.

The crowd also relaxed, sensing the tension ease, and began chatting amongst themselves in relief.

Meanwhile, the now-abandoned Dragon Witch shrieked as the executioner slowly approached her.

“Zaizennnnnnnn! You betrayed me!? Stay away! Don’t come! Wai—ah, no, stop, NOOOO! DRAGON SLAYERRRR!”

I watched as the Dragon Witch, wailing with zero dignity, had one of her legs torn off by the Blue Witch, who used her body-enhancing magic to rip it apart with sheer force.

Heh, serves her right. Though, wow, that’s pretty gruesome. Seeing the Blue Witch calmly carry out this splatter fest is a reminder of why she’s so feared.

Note to self: never piss her off.
