Chapter 24: Moryu Grass (7)
After leaving the cave, I had a disagreement with Liv.
“…Boy… Liv doesn’t need it…”
“No, please take it. This is rightful compensation.”
I tried to hand Liv the promised 500 Auro as payment for being my bodyguard, but she refused.
No matter how much I insisted, she wouldn’t accept it.
I was getting irritated.
And Liv, in turn, grew irritated at my persistence.
“…Why… are you so determined… to give this to me?”
“Why are you so determined not to accept it? We agreed on this.”
“…Because… boy… you’re poor…”
“Uh… well, I’m not wealthy, but…”
Fair enough—if she called me poor, I wouldn’t deny it.
“…That’s why… I hesitate to take your money…”
So her refusal and stubbornness were out of kindness. I appreciated her thoughtfulness, but…
“Liv, it’s true that I don’t have much money, but I’m not so poor that I can’t pay for work that I’ve benefited from. Please don’t assume I can’t afford it just because I’m not well off.”
I have my pride, too.
“…I’m… sorry…”
Liv bowed her head in apology.
“No, I’m grateful for your concern—it shows you were thinking of my wellbeing. But how about this as a compromise?”
“…What… do you mean?”
“Instead of paying you now, let’s treat this as a loan.”
“…A loan…?”
“If, at some point in the future, you need my help or assistance, I’ll work for you unconditionally.”
“…That’s the… loan…?”
“Yes. How does that sound?”
“…Alright… let’s do that.”
“I’ll carry your luggage or do any odd job you need.”
“…When the time comes… okay.”
Liv chuckled softly, and with that, we parted ways.
I returned to the witch’s house.
“I’m back.”
“Oh, welcome back! That was quick, wasn’t it?”
“Here’s the promised Moryu Grass.”
“Wahoo! Oh my gosh! Yesss!”
The witch was overjoyed when I handed it to her. Her excitement was… something else. Exhausted, I let out a small sigh of relief.
“So, by the way, there was a Hobgoblin deep in the cave.”
“Heehee… wait, what? A Hobgoblin? No idea about that.”
“I also found the corpse of an explorer.”
“Well, well. Hmm. I didn’t know about that either. I haven’t been to that cave in a long time.”
“I see.”
“Yes, yes. I urgently needed Moryu Grass for a client request.”
“A request?”
“Yes, yes. It’s for a pharmaceutical job.”
“Interesting…”
“Now then, let’s see, five bundles of Moryu Grass, right?”
While speaking nonchalantly, the witch began searching her pockets. She tilted her head, rummaging through her clothing.
“What’s wrong? Oh, woah!”
She suddenly started undressing. Wh-What!?
“Hmm, hmm, where could it be?”
“That’s my question! Why are you taking your clothes off!?”
“Ah, ah, my wallet seems to have gone missing. I figured if I undress, it might fall out.”
Without a shred of hesitation, she stripped down to her underwear. Black, sheer, and why is she wearing something like that!?
“The wallet’s on the table over there!”
“Oh, oh, there it is!”
“Now put your clothes back on, please!”
“Haha, haha! Is my body too stimulating for young Woff?”
“Honestly!”
Though… I couldn’t help but glance at the witch’s underwear.
“Oh my, oh my. What’s this? Such a heated gaze you’re giving me, hmm?”

The witch smirked mischievously. I replied with a calm and steady voice.
“Your underwear doesn’t match.”
“What? Huh?”
She blinked in confusion, her ears and tail twitching slightly.
“You should really make sure your underwear matches. It looks sloppy otherwise.”
I delivered the statement coldly, without a hint of emotion.
The witch’s face instantly turned bright red.
“Oh, oh, y-yes. I’m sorry…”
She hurriedly apologized, her embarrassment palpable as she scrambled to put her clothes back on.
I guess mismatched underwear just feels disorganized. And it’s good to know this person does have a sense of shame. That’s a relief.
Still blushing and looking awkward, the witch picked up her wallet. I spoke again.
“It’s 600 Auro per bundle as agreed, so that’s 3000 Auro in total.”
“Hmm, hmm. How about I make it 1200 per bundle instead?”
“Double!?”
“Yes, yes. The quality is exceptionally good, you see.”

The witch handed me six silver coins.
“No copper or small coins?”
It’s hard to shop without smaller denominations.
“Let’s see, let’s see… Nope, none.”
“How do you usually manage your shopping then?”
I asked, genuinely curious, as I accepted the payment.
“Oh, oh, you see, once a week, an acquaintance of mine brings me all the things I need.”
“Wow, that’s really kind of them.”
The witch picked up the real prize: a legendary water flask. It was round, made of leather, with a large crescent moon design in the center. Upon closer inspection, the crescent moon was embossed and made of metal.
“Now then, Wof boy, let me explain all about this flask.”
Explain?
I tilted my head in curiosity.
