Chapter 18: The Legend of the Red dragon and the Mysterious Woman (Part two)
As the schedule progressed, they gradually approached the Baldor Mountain.
No fear. Ah, I could even afford to look up at the Baldor Mountains to see how close we were already.
In the meantime, they arrived at another village.
This was the same village that Ren and Licia had passed through unbeknownst to them during their escape.
Up here, the countryside is not much different from the village where Ren was born.
“Weiss-sama, I need to talk to you about something.”
The knight in charge of the village says to Weiss as soon as he arrives at the village.
The knight’s face showed some concern.

The knight said that the water in the river near the village has been decreasing since yesterday. He said that there were several villagers who were worried because the amount of fish had decreased in proportion.
“In fact, this morning I went to check the situation upstream. There are many fallen trees piled up on top of each other.”
“Hmm? Was it a bad weather day?”
“Yes. Until a few days ago, this area had been hit by strong rain and wind. The trees fell under the influence of the wind and rain, and they may have blocked the river.”
The knight tried to carry the fallen trees along with the young villagers, but they were too heavy to deal with.
So he asked for help from Weiss and the other knights.
Weiss was still busy, though he had just arrived in the village.
It’s early in the village, so there is still some work to be done.
(He probably doesn’t want to be away from Licia-sama either.)
Then it would be a matter of going to check the river later.
But Ren interrupts here.

“If you don’t mind, I can go and check it out for you.”
“Boy? Is that okay?”
“Yes, I think I can handle a fallen tree and I don’t think there are any monsters to worry about, either.”
“I guess so. The place they appear, the monsters are about the same size as those in the eastern forest.”
It’s said that the roads are well maintained and safe.
The knight of the village still offered to show Ren the way, but he was adamant that he didn’t need directions, saying that was not necessary.
(Everyone has a job to do)
Even the knight in charge of this village has something to say to Licia and the others. The knights who have accompanied us up to this point, just like Weiss, have a number of jobs to do.
In other words, it’s no exaggeration to say that Ren is the only one who is free.
“How long does it take to get to the upper reaches of the river?”

“It takes an adult about two hours to walk there. Will it be okay for you?”
The knight in charge of the village had a fair point.
Ren, who spoke of going, is still a boy, and he doesn’t think he could accomplish what they couldn’t.
But Weiss laughs at that sentiment.
“Don’t worry! This boy is Ren Ashton!”
“What a surprise! It’s the hero I’ve heard so much about! That’s rude of me…..!”
(I’m so embarrassed.)
“So there’s nothing to worry about. But if it takes two hours by adult legs, won’t it be faster if I go by horseback?”
“Yes, but the road is not suitable for horseback because of the rain and wind from the other day.”
“It makes sense”, Weiss nodded.
Then it would take a long time even with Ren’s legs, but his physical ability is higher than that of a typical adult, so there’s no need to worry so much.
Weiss, too, seems to think so and doesn’t seem to be particularly concerned.
“Well, I’m going to go there now.
“I understand. Then, if I may be so presumptuous, I’ll show you the way to the upper stream.”
The knight in charge of the village was apologetic to the end.
He had a humble attitude and even bowed deeply when he saw Ren off.
***************************
As he began to make his way upstream, the knight watched Ren’s back until he was out of sight.
(I didn’t mind.)
Ren, who was following the path he had heard about, pretended not to notice and continued on his way.
The path is just as hard to walk on as he had heard, due to the mud strewn everywhere.
But I don’t feel bad enough to say it.
Ren had hunted often in the Ashton family’s village and had walked in similar forest environments on many occasions.
This time was no different.
He felt rather nostalgic and not bad.
—- Then he continued on my way for more than an hour.
He was walking along the road, wondering if it was time to go, when he finally saw a place that looked like it.
……Is that it?
That’s it, no doubt about it. That was the upstream.
One of the branches of the river forms a river that leads to the village downstream.

The fork is blocked by several fallen trees, and the sound of water leaking between the fallen trees is faintly audible.
Some fish were jumping on the ground, perhaps having jumped out of the flooded river.
“I’ll take some home with me on the way back.”
They say it’s important food for the villagers and I don’t want it to go to waste.
For that reason, I want to do something about the fallen tree as soon as possible.
‘But should I just chop that thing up?’ My hands stop at the thought of those pieces flowing down the river and injuring villagers downstream.
“….I’ll retreat.”
It’s better to lift it up and retreat.
Having come to this conclusion, Ren approached the river and avoided the fallen trees one by one from the top.
On the way, his clothes got wet from the river water, which caused him to lose his straight face.
He regretted that he should have avoided the tree more carefully.
“I think we should just let nature work its magic, what do you think?”
Suddenly, a voice came from nearby.
