Chapter 32: How to Use the Prayer Technique
“Emperor Oswald, forgive me for giving a direct answer. Regarding the use of the prayer technique,──── I must confess that I don’t really understand it myself.”
I said this without any hesitation.
I look ahead with a dignified face and puff out my chest proudly, as if to say that I am not lying in my statement.
I am not saying this as a joke. I really don’t know how to use the prayer technique,……. I just thought, ‘I’d like to use it,’ and after a little practice, I was able to use it. I don’t have any tricks or special training.
“ In my case, I really only had to wish for it to work its magic. So when asked how to use it, I could only say, ‘Just wish for it.’ …… I’m sorry I can’t help you.”
I put my hand on my chest and bowed a small, petulant bow to Their Majesties.
The emperor’s eyes narrowed meaningfully at the tiny piece of information, which was not worth the trouble of holding a dinner party to hear.
He kept the smile on his face and raised one eyebrow.
I wonder what kind of feelings these express. Perhaps, is he angry? Is it because it wasn’t the answer he wanted? But there’s no way to answer a question you don’t know……
“Have I offended the emperor?” I was inwardly panicked and broke out in a cold sweat.
I was anxious about the suspicious dinner party that has suddenly become a cloud of uncertainty,────Suddenly, someone let out a sigh, ‘huh’ …….
“Your Majesty, you mustn’t abuse the young too much. Leave it at that, please.”
Shrugging her shoulders in exasperation and admonishing the Emperor’s antics was the most noble woman in the Draconian Empire, Empress Aurora.
“Mm? What are you talking about? I haven’t done anything yet, have I?”
“Oh, are you trying to play dumb?”
“Ha-ha-ha. My queen is very strict.”
Emperor Oswald, who was not allowed to play dumb, narrowed his eyes in amusement. He was as innocent as a child before her. The Empress shook her head as if to say, “Good grief!”
I was taken aback by the scene before me. I let out an unintentional squeak “what?”.
The Empress lowered her shoulders apologetically at my complete lack of understanding of the situation.
“I’m sorry, Miss Charlotte. Please don’t be offended. His Majesty is always playing tricks too much. he’s not really angry in the slightest, but he likes to embarrass people by acting like he is.”
“Huh ……? Is that so?”
“What the hell, That’s his habit!” I nodded anyway, desperately trying to resist the urge to scream.
I secretly think about His Majesty’s bad habit, which was not inherited by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Leonardo.
“ I’m truly relieved that they didn’t have similar habits”, but then the Empress opened her mouth again.
“ Then ──── about the use of the prayer technique, I honestly wasn’t expecting much, so it’s okay. Because no one, not just Miss Charlotte, was able to explain in detail. The great mages who were there hundreds of years ago could also use the prayer technique, but they didn’t seem to know how to use it. So I’m sure it’s just a matter of talent.”
‘It’s within our expectations, so don’t worry about it,’ the Empress insisted, smiling softly.
I was surprised that he accepted the fact more readily than I had expected, and the emperor laughed with a smile on his face.
“ If you could explain how to use the prayer technique, I would have heard of it long ago. Even though there were only a few, there used to be some mages in the Draconian Empire who could use the prayer technique. And yet no detailed information was left …… at that point I expected the prayer technique to be similar to the sword spirit.”
Surely if an explanation were possible, the now deceased great mages would have left a little more detailed information in their writings or ……. If you think about it, it is obviously unusual to have so many unknowns. So then ──── my answer was never wrong! Because I came to the same conclusion as my predecessors!
”Ah! Thank God!” I patted my chest and my expression softened as if relieved.
I felt much better just by having like-minded brethren.
“Let’s talk about something else now. Miss Charlotte, I heard you got first place on the final exam.”
The emperor, who was spinning a glass of fruit water in his hand, asks a few simple questions.
It was only a few days ago that the results of the final exam were announced, but it seems that the information has already been passed on.
“Yes, it’s true. I got a perfect score in all subjects and I came in first place.”
“Really? A perfect score. That’s wonderful.”
“So you’re not only talented in magic, but in other areas as well.”
His Majesty the Emperor and Empress, who praised me with their mouths, laughed and said, ‘I look forward to the future’.
In a sense, I have nothing but anxiety about the future, but I dared not speak of it here.
But still, the Emperor and Empress are both quite normal. I thought they would come on more…… to go all out to surround me with all their might, but they didn’t seem to do that. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
I am inwardly relieved that Their Majesties do not suddenly close the distance like Crown Prince Leonardo.
This was just the right amount of distance for me, as I didn’t want them to come at me too aggressively.
“By the way, how is your school life? Are you having fun? Are you having any troubles or worries? If you want, I’ll be happy to talk with you about it.”
Smiling, the Empress wiped her mouth with a graceful gesture and looked at me with gentle eyes.
Reflexively, I almost said, ‘Do something about your son! but I managed to hold on just in time’.
I gulped down the fruit water in one gulp as if to swallow the words that were about to come out of my throat, and exhaled.
I’ll put aside Prince Leonardo for the moment, but should I say something about the teacher misconduct case (attempted)? If the Imperial Family, the supporters of the Flugel Academy, acts, it could stop some of the teachers from going out of control…… but to be honest, I’m not too keen on the idea. It would be a bad move to put me in the debt of the Imperial Family when Their Majesties …… No, I don’t know what the Emperor and Empress ultimately want to do with me. At worst, I’ll be thrown into the middle of a power struggle…… No, it’s still a pretty dicey position to be in.
“Thank you for your concern. But please rest assured that I am not troubled by anything in particular. Oh, but there is one thing that is troubling me. I actually had a class on the art of summoning a few weeks ago. ────”
As part of the topic, I exaggerated a bit about the accident that happened in the summoning technique class.
When I even explained that I was banned from using the summoning technique, Their Majesties laughed happily. The emperor in particular burst out laughing so hard he couldn’t even breathe, and he coughed a little.
‘Keho-keho-keho-…… kukku! To call a bunch of summons and then get banned from using …… hahaha! Nothing could be more hilarious than that!”
“Hmmm. It’s a big deal, Miss Charlotte. But if Miss Emilia’s view is correct, it’s the breakthrough of the century.”
The Empress smiles and gently pats her husband’s back as he coughs, “You’ve broken the record for the largest number of summons.”
The Emperor, who still can’t stop laughing, gasped out of breath, Mou…..
Well, I didn’t expect it to be received so well. I’ve adapted it a bit, but was it really such an interesting story? Well, now that I think about it, it was quite surreal to see so many hands coming out of the summoning circle. At the time, it wasn’t that interesting, it was just scary. ……
I wondered, “Would it be funny to listen to it as a third party?” I thought as I ate the rest of my meal.
The dessert was a fruit tart.
Delicious! And in front of me, eyes shining. The emperor finally regains his composure.
“Hmm….I haven’t laughed this much in a long time. It really feels good. I must thank you for providing me with laughter.”
The Emperor, who loosely raises the corners of his mouth, ponders, ‘What would you like as a reward?
He strokes his chin in a natural motion, and after a moment, his eyes light up as if he has thought of something.
“Yes,────, if only Miss Charlotte is willing, I will give you the opportunity to use the summoning art.”
The emperor’s eyes narrowed in amusement as he said that he would not lift the ban, but give me the opportunity to use it.
I, who had become interested in the art of summoning after meeting Earth-kun, the spirit of the earth, reacted with a twitch to His Majesty’s proposal.
If I could, I would like to use the summoning technique just one more time, but I wonder if it’s …… safe? The use of the summoning art by minors is forbidden by law, with a few exceptions. I don’t think you can break the rule so easily, even if you are the emperor. ……
“A very tempting proposition, but isn’t it dangerous?”
“Well, I certainly wouldn’t call it safe. But we’ll have our empire’s leading experts in magic ──── on guard, so it won’t be a problem.”
I stopped eating with a snap and froze, my eyes wide open.
The surprising word that snatched my ear made me doubt my own ears for a moment, but…… Seeing the reactions of those around me. “I’m not mishearing.” I am convinced that this is the case.
The Court Mages are a group of geniuses who have gathered some of the best mages in the Empire……! Unlike the Imperial Guards, it’s meant to be more of a research position, but I’ve heard that they are very good at magic. One time they wiped out hundreds of soldiers, and another time they blew up a mountain in one night….. The nickname they got was ──── the ultimate weapon of the empire.
I’ve heard that they’re usually holed up in their lab and don’t come out very often, but I wonder if it’s an organization that can be moved for me …?
“Nominally, let’s investigate the accident that occurred in the summoning class. If we do that, we won’t be violating the law. Normally, the investigation should be conducted by the school…… Well, I think it will be fine. The fact that they leave it for weeks means that they understand that it is beyond their control. So they won’t complain if the royal family intervenes. If anything, they’ll be crying for joy.”
His Imperial Majesty Emperor Oswald, who let out a wry smile, ordered his attendants to bring a piece of paper and a pen.
Then, he quickly wrote up a request for an investigation to the court mage corps and a letter of introduction for me. His Majesty’s power of action, which could be said to be the embodiment of acting on the spur of the moment, made my eyes peel back.
“I understand what Your Majesty is thinking, but are you sure you want to …… do this? You’re moving the court mage division, the ultimate weapon of the empire, for the sake of a student ……”
“ Oh, that’s all right. You can drop by the headquarters of the Court Mages after dinner. They were interested in Miss Charlotte, a master of the prayer technique. I’m sure they would be happy to welcome you with open arms”
The emperor had no hesitation at all in saying, “So, it’s all right.”
After being told this much, it would be impolite to refrain from doing so. Above all, I had always been interested in the Court Mages, who are considered experts in magic, so I had no reason to refuse.
“I understand. If that’s the case, then I’ll be happy to accept your kindness.”
“Oh, by all means, please do so.”
Smiling calmly as usual, His Majesty the Emperor handed me the completed documents through his attendants.
I looked at the documents I had received and was excited about the court mage division and the use of the summoning technique.
