Chapter 90: Went Shopping
Rest, accompanied by Viola and Primula, went out shopping in town.
The town they went to was Rosemaryburg, the capital of the Rosemary Marquisate. It was a hometown-like town.
Although it was a large town located in the north of the kingdom, it was much smaller in scale compared to the capital.
Instead of hustle and bustle, it had a tranquil atmosphere, which made it more comfortable for Rest compared to the bustling capital.
“Rest, Primula, over here!”
“Wait, sister!”
Viola led Primula by the hand towards a shop.
Rest followed behind the sisters, a little slower.
“This shop here. I found one that sells cute clothes, let’s go check it out!”
Guided by Viola, they arrived at a clothing store.
It wasn’t a particularly large store, but it had a chic atmosphere with tasteful decor.
“Welcome.”
As they entered the shop, a woman in her late thirties greeted them.
“Hello, would you mind showing us some of your clothes today?”
“Oh, Viola-sama, welcome. Please feel free to look around.”
The woman greeted them with a gentle smile.
From the way she addressed Viola, it seemed she knew Viola was the daughter of the lord.
“Today, Primula-sama has also come. And who might the gentleman be…?”
“He’s my and my sister’s fiancé.”
“Oh my! Is that so!”
The woman was surprised, covering her mouth with both hands.
“We’ve heard rumors about your engagement, but… he’s your fiancé indeed. He seems like a kind person.”
“Yes, isn’t he handsome?”
“Yes, Rest-sama is very kind.”
“Th-thank you.”
Rest greeted somewhat bashfully.
“Don’t be so modest. You will eventually become the lord, won’t you?”
“Yes… probably…”
“In that case, carry yourself with confidence.”
As advised by the shopkeeper, Rest seemed to be too modest for a lord. If nobles appear too weak, they might end up being looked down upon by those around them. They must adopt an appropriate attitude befitting the ruling class.
(Rulers must be feared rather than loved… was it Machiavelli?)
Rest recalled knowledge from books in his past life.
Being loved isn’t necessarily bad… but if being loved leads to being looked down upon, it’s better to be feared, according to that line of thought.
(I chose it even in school lessons, I need to change not only my management skills as a lord but also my mindset.)
“Yes, you’re right… no, I’ll keep that in mind.”
Rest cleared his throat and adjusted his tone.
“Well then, you have to try on the clothes. I found something that would suit you yesterday.”
“Yes, please. Feel free to do as you like.”
Rest tried on several clothes chosen by Viola.
They were not as luxurious as the clothes nobles wear, but they were comfortable and well-designed.
They might not be suitable for social events, but they were sufficient for everyday wear.
“Yes, they look good.”
“They suit you well, Rest-sama.”
“Thank you, I like them.”
“How about the size? We can adjust the hem length if needed.”
“No, they’re just right. They’re fine as they are.”
Responding to the shopkeeper, Rest waved his hand lightly and checked the comfort of wearing them.
They were easy to move in. He decided to wear them home.
“We’ll also try some on.”
“Rest-sama, please wait a moment.”
Viola and Primula also took clothes and disappeared into the fitting room.
After a while, the two came out wearing dresses. They had matching designs, with Viola in orange and Primula in light blue.
Having spent a year together, Rest had come to realize something… Viola preferred warm colors, while Primula preferred cool colors.
“They look good on you.”
“Thank you, should I try this one too?”
“Can I try this one as well?”
“Of course.”
The two picked up different clothes and disappeared back into the fitting room.
(They’re girls after all, so they both like clothes.)
Rest found it amusing, but he still didn’t know.
That this clothes shopping would continue for another two hours.
He was about to learn that women’s shopping could be much longer than expected, much to his chagrin.

Oh. Interesting to see Machiavelli mentioned here. My first read of that name was in “How a realist hero rebuilt a kingdom”.
This concept can work in ignorant society not civilized society love and modest can win people’s heart if divot your self to that you well live eternally in there’s heart
