Chapter 165: Lessons from Julius-sensei

“ Julius-sensei, What do you think!?”

“Giovanni-sama, please stop calling me Sensei. May I speak to you openly and honestly?”

I thought I could almost hear him gulp. Perhaps they had heard that I had arrived at the base, other Royal Palace Potions masters also came over.

"Julius-sama, there's no need to hold back. We also had a vague feeling. It's not good if things continue like this. Please don't hesitate to tell us."

It seems I was not going to be spared from being called like that. Which is better, Sensei or this. This is a distressing point.

"I understand. First of all, before we create a panacea, we should start with its prerequisite, the magic potions.”

“Oh oh ……”

All of the royal palace magic potionists looking up to the sky. They didn’t expect it to be no good from there. But, you know, it’s not good. No matter how well you mix the lowest quality with the best, you can only make low quality products.

“So, first, I will teach you how to make the magic potions that are the ingredients for the panacea, the ‘advanced recovery potion’ and the ‘strong antidote. Let’s start with the advanced recovery potion. Can you bring me the ingredients?”

“I will bring them right away!”

One of the royal palace magic potion masters said, and ran and went somewhere.

I guess I’ll start here. No running in the compounding room. I’ll write it down on a piece of paper and put it up.

By the time we moved from the back room to the mixing room, various materials were prepared on the mixing table.

Medicinal herbs, careless grass, forest elk antlers, and purple slime powder. Their quality was a mixture of average and low quality. I think they did a good job.

And well water, not distilled water …… Wait a minute!

“Um, there’s a lot of things I’d like to say.”

“Yes, sir?”

“First of all, don’t run in the mixing room. It’s dangerous if you bump into something or fall down. One of the most important rules of a potion maker is not to run in the mixing room. Yes.”

“One great rule of Potions Masters: No running in the mixing room!”

All the royal potion masters said in unison with serious faces. I have a somewhat mixed feeling about this, but safety is guaranteed. That’s good. Now that we've come this far, should we also incorporate pointing and calling?

“Next, this water is well water, right? I thought we were supposed to use distilled water.”

“Well…”

All of the royal palace potion masters look away. It seems that everyone was using well water. Good grief. Well, Grandma used well water, too. Who made it popular to use well water? If I find him, I’ll punish him with an iron claw.

“Okay, everyone. It may be tedious and time-consuming to make, but please be sure to use distilled water. Well water reduces the quality and the extraction rate of the active ingredients in medicinal herbs is also reduced.”

“No way.”

“I’ve never heard that before.”

Bewildered voices are coming from all over the place. I’ll have to tighten this firmly. They are disciples who really need a lot of work.

"One of the basic rules of potion masters: distilled water must be used. Yes."

“One great rule of the Potions Master: Use distilled water!”

Their voices lined up beautifully. Hmmm…they seem to have a solid unity. Now I just  need to get them to actually use distilled water and make them think “It’s true!”

Okay, then, let's start by making a basic recovery potion. ...I feel like my ambition is getting lower and lower. It’s hard.

“Well then, let’s start by making distilled water. And first, let’s make the rudiment of rudiments, the elementary recovery potion. Could someone please make some distilled water for me?”

“Julius-sensei, I’ll make it!”

"Yes, thank you very much. In the meantime, can I see where you store your materials?"

"Okay. I will show you. The icehouse we use is amazing."

I’m fine with being a teacher now. Let’s give up. Giving up is the key.

Now, what I am concerned about is how they preserve the ingredients. This makes a huge difference in the freshness of the ingredients. In my parents’ room, there is a box for long-term storage that was converted from a safe inherited from my grandmother. Therefore, quality is guaranteed to some extent.

It would be nice if that was the case here as well, but from what I saw of the materials earlier, I don’t think it’s very good. I thought since it’s easy to get fresh medicinal herbs, it would be natural for them to be of high quality, but they were average.

This may be due to poor storage methods. With this thought in mind, I headed to the ice house they were so proud of. What I saw there!

“Well, this isn’t really an ice room, it’s just a room with ice in it to make the room colder, right?”

Everyone makes a face like “What?” at my point. How did this happen? Wasn’t an ice room a kind of huge magical tool that made the entire room as cold as a freezer?

Could it be that my common sense is wrong? I’m pretty sure that’s the way it was designed in the game. This is not a “freezer” but just a “refrigerator”. And it’s even from the Showa period.

“I remember the icehouse I knew was so cold that if you left water on it, it would freeze."

"Ah, I see. What Julius-sensei is talking about is the icehouse that was used in the ancient advanced civilization. Unfortunately, we don't have one here."

What ……? But that’s a problem. Presumably, valuable rare materials are brought to the Royal Palace Potion Division from all over the world. I can’t just trash them.

“If you don’t have one, we can make  it."

“huh?”

“I have a bit of confidence in my ability to make magic tools, you see. If you don’t have a real Icehouse, just make one. It’s really that simple.”

The inside of the refrigerator began to buzz. Huh, this is going to be more fun than I thought.
