Chapter 180: Returning to the Village, and…
Tauro struggled to decide when they should leave the Royal Capital because he was worried about Aeris.
She remained determined to continue as an adventurer, but doing so meant parting from her father again almost immediately after their reunion. Marquis Van Dyne would naturally worry about his daughter, and Tauro couldn’t tell when it would be appropriate to raise the subject.
There was little left for him to handle concerning the Garfish Company. The company could manage the sales itself, and Tauro would receive his share of the profits.
After several uneventful days, Aeris visited his room around noon.
Tauro invited her inside and asked why she had come.
“Are you still not planning to return to Dansas Village?”
She had gone directly to the matter troubling him.
“Huh? More importantly, Aeris, have you finished everything you need to do here?”
“Me? I’ve been ready for ages. Once I’m gone, Papa and Mei can spend time together without worrying about me. Besides, Shin and Rumeya must miss you terribly by now.”
“I’ve written to them several times and explained what was happening.”
“But neither of them is very good at reading or writing, so who knows how much they understood?”
“I forgot about that. They could ask someone at the guild to read the letters…”
“Do either of them seem like the type to do that?”
“…Probably not.”
Tauro had to concede the point. Shin and Rumeya were straightforward, cheerful, and good-natured, but they could also be remarkably careless.
“Then I suppose it’s time for us to go home.”
“Yes!” Aeris replied brightly.
They informed Marquis Van Dyne that they intended to return to Dansas Village. After bidding farewell once more to Prince Fleue, Count Connoen, and the dungeon researcher Sharga, they departed the Royal Capital several days later.
More than ten days after leaving Dansas, Tauro and Aeris finally returned to the village.
“Hm? Those markings on the backs of the two women ahead of us…” Tauro murmured.
“I noticed them too…” Aeris replied.
The first thing to catch their attention was the emblem of Black-Gold Wings: black wings bordered in gold.
One of the women had long black hair, a curvaceous figure, and loose priestly robes that suggested she was a healer. The other was slender, with short brown hair and revealing leather armor designed for easy movement, making her appear to be a thief.
On closer inspection, however, the emblems on their backs were poorly formed and looked nothing like the ones Tauro had embroidered.
“Does this mean Black-Gold Wings gained new members while we were away?” Tauro asked with a strained smile.
“New members? Without asking us?!”
Aeris became furious instantly.
“Calm down. Shin and Rumeya wouldn’t decide something like that by themselves… would they?”
Tauro was beginning to feel uneasy as well.
The two women noticed them staring. When they heard Tauro mention Shin and Rumeya, they turned and approached.
“What is it, boy? Are you fans of Black-Gold Wings?” The short-haired woman then noticed the genuine emblems on Tauro and Aeris. “Hey! Admiring us is one thing, but copying our symbol is going too far!”
The woman dressed as a thief reached for Tauro’s collar, but he easily brushed her hand aside.
“That’s our line!” Aeris snapped. “Who gave you permission to imitate our emblem?”
“What? We’re genuine members of Black-Gold Wings! She’s Yu, our healer, and I’m Ren, the thief. Everyone around here knows us. Are you two completely ignorant?”
“I’ve never heard of you! Tauro is the leader of Black-Gold Wings. How dare you claim membership without his permission?”
Aeris was already beyond stopping.
“The leader? This child?” Yu looked more closely at them. “Ren… could these be the two children Rumeya and the others mentioned?”
“You mean the supposed Black-Gold Wings members who went to the Royal Capital? I thought those two were joking,” Ren said. “Besides, Rumeya is the team leader. I’m his girlfriend and a member, and Yu is Shin’s girlfriend and a member. Why should anyone believe you instead of us?”
Ren gave Aeris a mocking smile.
“What? Shin and Rumeya would never bring women like you into Black-Gold Wings without asking us!” Aeris snarled.
