Chapter 122: Free Time

The day after their arrival in O’Circus, Leada informed the Kishiwanda Trading Company that their party had arrived safely.

The business meeting was scheduled for noon the following day, leaving everyone free for the rest of that day.

They decided to explore the city separately, but Aeris followed Tauro when he set out.

“Aeris?”

“What is it?”

“You know you may spend the day however you like, correct? You could visit the harbor, go shopping, or rest at the inn.”

“I know. Now, let us go. Carrying everything I buy would be difficult without you.”

Aeris naturally linked her arm through Tauro’s and pulled him toward the crowded shopping streets.

As they wandered around eating snacks and examining the shops, the two looked very much like they were on a date. Tauro, however, gradually led them away from the busiest streets.

They entered a district lined with stores serving farmers and gardeners, where unusual plants, seeds, and agricultural tools were sold.

“You’re searching for something to help that mountain village, are you not?”

 Aeris immediately guessed his purpose.

“Yes. I promised to help them, so I want to see whether this city has anything useful.”

Tauro examined the plants with [True Eye] until one particular display caught his attention.

“…Tomoro? Could that be corn?”

“Are those strange, lumpy plants really useful?”

Aeris studied the unfamiliar crop curiously.

“Yes. The ears can be eaten after simply being boiled in salted water. It also grows well at high elevations, so it should suit the mountain village’s fields.”

“Then you should buy some.”

“I will. Excuse me, I would like all the tomoro seeds you have.”

“All of them? Thank you very much. To tell you the truth, the crop is so uncommon here that finding a buyer has been difficult.”

The delighted shopkeeper wrapped the seeds and handed them to Tauro.

“As thanks for such a large purchase, I’ll give you some tomate seeds as well. They’re another southern crop that can be cultivated at high elevations.”

“Tomate… These are tomatoes! I’ll buy all of those too.”

“All of them? Are the complimentary seeds not enough?”

Astonished by the boy’s enthusiasm, the shopkeeper packaged the rest of the tomate seeds as well.

“In that case, I’ll also include these cold-resistant karashin seeds. They’re rare in this region, but they’re hardy and grow easily in highland fields. This is our entire stock, so I couldn’t sell you any more even if you asked.”

The shopkeeper produced a third unusual variety.

“Karashin…? What kind of plant is that?”

Tauro examined the seeds with [True Eye] and recognized their true nature.

“It’s karashina – mustard greens.”

“Mustard greens?”

Aeris looked at the seeds in puzzlement.

“The leaves can be eaten, and the seeds can be processed into mustard. If we teach the villagers how to prepare it, the crop might become one of their specialties.”

“I don’t know what mustard is, but a marketable specialty would certainly help the village.”

Aeris didn’t fully understand his explanation, but trusted that Tauro knew what he was doing.

Tauro placed all the purchased seeds in [Magic Storage]. After receiving cultivation instructions and thanking the shopkeeper, he left the store.

Aeris announced that it was now her turn to shop for clothes and equipment, then pulled Tauro along with her.

Tauro wondered when they had established turns, but Aeris was plainly enjoying herself, so he went along without complaint.

That evening, they finally reached the waterfront.

Seeing the ocean for the first time in this world moved Tauro deeply.

“Is this your first time seeing the sea, Tauro?”

“Yes. I know what it’s, but this is my first time seeing it in this world.”

“I see. Then we’re eating seafood tonight!”

Aeris’s hunger took precedence over Tauro’s emotional first encounter with the sea.

“Oh! I nearly forgot that I wanted to stock up on seafood.”

Tauro suddenly remembered another of his objectives.

“That can wait until after dinner. We’re going to eat now. Seafood is an O’Circus specialty!”

Declaring that she was hungry, Aeris seized his arm and pulled him toward the restaurants.

  1. Honestly… she’s a bit annoying… she is effectively a Karen in training but a little nicer don’t understand what he finds acceptable in her.

Sure she has decent skills and relatively ok outlook in life but all the is offset by he entitled and bossy attitude.
