Chapter 114: The Investigation Team Returns Home

Tauro’s unexpected fan had appeared in the most unlikely of places, and Sharga was now so delighted to meet him that the dungeon discussion had been completely forgotten.

Apparently, Tauro’s disappearance after turning down an influential nobleman’s offer was famous among Reversi enthusiasts, who regarded him as a purehearted young prodigy.

Tauro thought the story had been greatly exaggerated, but he decided not to correct it.

It only reinforced his belief that abandoning the Satou name had been the right decision.

He briefly considered giving the fan before him one of Giro Sugar’s special-edition pieces, but doing so would practically announce that Tauro was Giro Sugar.

He therefore kept that secret from Sharga as well. Sharga seemed trustworthy, but excitement might still tempt him to boast to someone.

When Tauro cautiously raised that concern, Sharga replied,

“I don’t have enough friends to tell anyone!”

That was hardly reassuring. Still, because Sharga was regarded as an eccentric and generally avoided by others, he was unlikely to have many people to tell.

Sharga also offered Tauro an unexpected privilege.

“Whenever you wish to enter a dungeon managed by the kingdom, contact me. I’ll arrange it immediately!”

It was an astonishing offer of special treatment.

Tauro had no intention of entering such a dangerous place if he could help it.

Even so, he understood that the offer was Sharga’s sincere way of showing goodwill, so he thanked him and said he would appreciate the help if the need ever arose.

Anyone capable of making such a promise to a young adventurer might possess far more influence than appearances suggested. Tauro decided not to pry, since it was none of his business.

The investigation of the dungeon ruins proceeded smoothly.

Sharga removed samples from several walls and sections of the floor, then packed them into a bag enchanted with the [Magic Storage] effect.

“Heh heh heh. I’m sure your [Magic Storage] is impressive, Tauro-dono, but this medium-capacity magic bag was the best my budget could afford. It’s a one-of-a-kind creation by Jean Ferro!”

Sharga lovingly rubbed his cheek against the bag.

“It’s made my research so much more efficient,”

 he boasted.

Tauro didn’t mention that his own [Magic Storage] was vastly superior.

There was no point in competing over it.

“To tell you the truth, I wanted a backpack made by the same craftsperson, but it was beyond my budget. Then someone bought it before I could raise the money—a private buyer who paid ten platinum coins in cash! Ten platinum coins! Even a wealthy person would hesitate over such a sum. There truly are extraordinary people in this world.”

Tauro was the person who had bought Jean Ferro’s one-of-a-kind, large-capacity magic backpack.

He almost admitted it, but thought better of doing so.

Sharga would be even more shocked if he learned that Tauro had later sold it to the Garfish Company at a discounted price.

“…May I borrow part of this pedestal?”

 Sharga asked Tauro.

“Of course. The upper section can be detached, so you may take that with you.”

 Tauro readily agreed.

“Thank you very much! This will be invaluable to my research. I’ll have a loan agreement prepared at once.”

Sharga promptly instructed Joshna to draft the agreement. Once both parties had signed it, he stored the detachable section of the pedestal in his magic bag.

After finishing their investigation, the team returned safely to Dansas that evening.

They would spend the night at the Resting Pavilion and depart for the royal capital the following morning.

Tauro and his companions had completed their quest upon returning to the village. Shin and Rumeya had become friendly with the knights, however, and joined them for drinks in the dining hall.

Tauro and Aeris also decided to enjoy a meal at the Resting Pavilion.

“I’ve never tasted anything like this in the royal capital. It’s delicious!”

“Exactly! This is our last chance to eat here, so I’m going to have as much as I can!”

“Someone should ask the head chef to teach our cooks these recipes!”

The Resting Pavilion’s food was a tremendous success with the knights.

Tauro was pleased to hear their praise, since he had devised the menu, but he kept that fact to himself.

Unaware of his involvement, the knights thoroughly enjoyed their final night in Dansas.

Sharga and Joshna, meanwhile, fell asleep the moment they returned to their rooms.

As expected, little besides their research could hold their interest.

They looked as though they could have slept all the way back to the capital.

The morning after the gathering, Tauro and the others saw the investigation team off.

Sharga and his companions then began their journey back to the royal capital.
