Chapter 4: The Villainous Aristocrat Talks With His Step-Sister In The Middle Of The Night

"Hmm."

I pondered, my head in my hands.

Yesterday, Father returned to the mansion in a state of severe injury due to the accident.

Well, that's not the main issue.

The crucial point is that the magic-powered motorcycle I worked so hard to create ended up completely wrecked.

"It has low durability..."

It's probably not an issue with the materials but rather a problem with the precision of the processing.

Even though it looks good, sculpting magic is a magic that uses my hands as a medium.

There are inevitably slight distortions.

And that leads to the low durability.

Once I get used to it, I might be able to solve these issues, but I wonder how much time it will take to get used to it...

"Isn't there some way to solve this..."

"Onii-sama, are you troubled about something again?"

"Hm? Wendy? What are you doing here at this hour?"

The sun had already set, and it was a time when most people were asleep.

I could stay up late because I had created a makeshift light with enchantment magic, but typically, it was a time when everyone else would be sleeping.

"Hey, Wendy? Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?"

Upon closer inspection, I noticed Felsy standing behind Wendy, looking troubled.

Huh? Reconsider what? What are they talking about?

"I don't want to!! I want to sleep with onii-sama!!"

"T-Then I'll go to my own room..."

"I want to sleep with Felsy onee-sama too!!"

What? Are they serious? How adorable can they get? Are they angels or something? Well, they practically are.

"Onii-sama, please read a storybook too!!"

Saying that, Wendy pleaded with a smile as bright as the sun.

It should be midnight by now, but the room somehow felt brighter.

Maybe it's just my imagination.

"Wendy, Kunou-kun is tired from working in the fields, so don't push him too hard..."

"I'm perfectly fine, Onee-san."

"R-Really? Just don't overdo it, okay?"

"Yes. But it's a request from my adorable little sister, so I plan to read storybooks until morning."

"Yay!! Onii-sama, I love you!!"

Haha, this is way too cute, I might just die!!

I pushed all thoughts about enchantment magic to the corner of my mind and slipped into bed with Wendy. With Wendy in the middle, Felsy lay down on the opposite side.

The bed wasn't very large, so it was a bit cramped, but we managed somehow.

"Oh, is today's story about 'The Dragon King and the Knight'?"

"Yes!! Mother said it's really interesting!!"

I received the storybook from Wendy and read it aloud.

The literacy rate in this world is quite low.

In this world, being able to study equals being able to read and write, so to speak. It reflects the low level of civilization.

Therefore, not only Wendy but also Felsy can't read the text in storybooks.

Right now, Mother is teaching them everything from scratch.

Reading storybooks like this before bedtime is part of that process, and I try my best to assist since it also contributes to their learning of letters..

"—And so, the Dragon King and the Knight embarked on another adventure. The end. Happily ever after."

"...*snore*...*snore*..."

"Hehe, Wendy fell asleep halfway through."

"I guess my reading aloud was too good."

"Haha, what's that supposed to mean?"

Felsy and I shared a laugh over Wendy's sleeping form.

Perhaps because we finished reading the book, I felt a bit more awake.

It seemed Felicia felt the same because we decided to have a casual conversation.

"Onee-san, have you gotten used to our life here?"

"No, not yet. It still feels strange. It's like I'm in a dream, and I can't help but doubt if it's real."

Felsy answered, gazing up at the ceiling, taken aback by my sudden question.

"I was really anxious at first. I was worried that Step-Mother and my new brother wouldn't welcome me."

"But I'm very welcoming, you know."

"Hehe, that's true. That's why it truly feels like a dream. Sleeping in a warm bed, having a kind Step-Mother, and gaining an amazing new brother..."

"Amazing? Me?"

"Yes, truly amazing."

I wonder what she's talking about.

"A hairdryer. I was really surprised the first time I heard about it from Wendy."

"Oh, well, there were quite a few failures along the way."

"Besides that, there's the magic-powered motorcycle—bike, was it? If we have that, it'll make transportation within the territory easier and revolutionize the import and export of goods."

That sounds quite exaggerated…

"There's still plenty of room for improvement on that one."

"Even so, I think it's amazing. That's why I worry too."

"Worry?"

Felsy stared at me with unease.

"The things you create can change the world. When that happens, there might be problems somewhere. I worry about what would happen if our current dream-like life were to disappear."

"Onee-san..."

"Hehe, I guess I disappointed you a bit. Basically, I want to continue this happy life. I don't want to shiver in a cold bed like before. I don't want my sister, Wendy, to go through something like that ever again... Kunou-kun? Um, what kind of expression is that?"

"Oh, it's nothing."

I realize her words and glance at my own expression.

It seems I was moved by Felicia's heartfelt confession and ended up making a weird face while shedding tears.

My stepsister is practically a goddess!!

"...I'm sorry, onee-san."

"Kunou-kun? Um, what are you apologizing for?"

"I lacked a bit of self-awareness."

When I think about it rationally, I am indeed incredible.

I'm not boasting, but I'm trying to elevate the civilization level from medieval Europe straight to the modern age.

Certainly, there's the potential to make enemies in various places.

In fact, I know that in this game world, there exists the ultimate enemy, the protagonist.

Apart from that, there are bandits, neighboring countries that could go to war at any moment, and the presence of demons.

Just creating things and making life comfortable isn't enough.

Fortunately, I have knowledge from my past life.

I know of weapons that don't exist in this world yet.

Guns, bombs, aircraft...

All of those could potentially be replicated with my bestow magic.

I really don't want to create weapons meant for killing people.

But this world of "Fantasia Stories" isn't as gentle and sweet as Japan.

I need to be a bit prepared.

"Don't worry, Sister."

"Huh?"

I speak quietly to Felsy.

"I won't make you anxious, onee-san I will protect our territory, our people, and our family. Mother, Wendy, and of course, you too."

"Hehe, poor Father."

"Ah..."

I genuinely forgot for a moment. Sorry, Father.

"But why is it that when you say that, Kunou-kun, I feel incredibly at ease? It's like I'm talking to an adult."

*Gulp.*

Sh-Sharp, isn't she? Truly a heroine.

"...Good night, Kunou-kun. I feel like I'll sleep soundly tonight."

"Yes. Good night, Sister."

Felsy begins to breathe softly.

I close my eyes, contemplating what I should do tomorrow.

It's all for the sake of a comfortable life. And for my incredibly beautiful sisters...

  1. is it just the MC being naive or the author is braindead that he thought a single motor can’t affect the whole world~?

Bruh, just bringing a single factory-made bearing to a blacksmith or a merchant can affect that world, drastically, let alone making a motorbike and a hairdryer~

    1. Dude the MC is living in a territory that has at most maybe 310 people. Now imagine if a foreign nation discovered that a 10-year-old developed a magic tool that was 3-5x faster than a horse running at full speed with a person on top. Horse-drawn carriages are the fastest mode of transportation those who saw these mystical magic tools would either try to steal, destroy, or kidnap the MC. Now imagine if someone could modify the motorcycle so that it could hover over the ground to avoid traps, pitfalls, and small-in-height monsters. As shown the hair dryer when not adjusted turns into a flamethrower imagine a corrupt merchant selling a product that has the control mechanism broken so that it explodes after a certain amount of time. Now a prepared magician might be able to stop the magical tool but an unaware child it could be fatal.
