Chapter 87: A Moment with the Team

After asking Chloe to handle the registration, the four accepted only a medicinal-herb gathering quest and left the guild.

On the way to their destination, Tauro proposed how they should operate in the future.

“We’ll leave the rear guard to Aeris. Since I have [Presence Detection], I’ll scout and cover the middle distance with my bow and short sword. Shin and Rumeya can continue in their current roles.”

“Will you be all right, Tauro? Haven’t you been serving as their rear guard until now?”

Aeris worried that changing roles might overburden him.

“I’ve studied how to fight with nearly every kind of weapon, so I’ll be fine. I may not be very strong, but I can fight in the vanguard if necessary.”

“That’s true. Tauro taught us how to fight in the vanguard, so there won’t be a problem,” Rumeya said.

“His knowledge and experience are certainly impressive,” Shin agreed.

“I’ve been wondering about something,” Aeris said. “We’re a team now, so can we stop adding ‘Mr.’ and other honorifics? We’re companions. Besides, isn’t it strange that I’m the only one you call simply Aeris?”

“Well, I thought you were someone I probably wouldn’t meet again.”

“That’s a terrible reason!”

Tauro, Shin, and Rumeya burst out laughing.

In any case, the four agreed to address one another by name alone.

They spent the rest of their herb-gathering trip discussing coordination.

Tauro explained that the team would function if Shin attacked with his sword, Rumeya defended with his shield, and Aeris supported them. Tauro would become a versatile intermediary who filled the gaps, allowing the other three to coordinate smoothly in a short time.

“Wouldn’t that be too much work for you? You’d have to attack, provide support, and monitor the entire battle.”

Aeris was concerned for him.

Her initial overbearing manner had vanished, revealing a considerate girl.

“I’m reasonably versatile, but I don’t have a single outstanding specialty like the rest of you. Filling whatever role is open suits me best.”

“That sounds a little self-deprecating, but I understand. You’re good at judging situations, so having you in the middle of everyone would make me feel safer.”

Her wording was blunt, but she seemed to trust him.

“That leaves Aeris in the rear guard. What exactly can [Priest], [Mage], and [Barrier Master] do? My basic role is to use [Taunt], defend, and counterattack whenever the enemy leaves an opening,” Rumeya said confidently.

Those were the fundamentals Tauro had taught him at the beginning.

A shield bearer benefited from honesty and patience.

Rumeya’s personality and combination of skills made him well suited to the role.

“I trust the person guarding my back and concentrate entirely on attacking,” Shin explained.

That made him sound blindly aggressive, but he was actually highly skilled at positioning himself in battle.

He thinned out the enemies concentrating on Rumeya and watched carefully to identify which threats needed to be eliminated first.

His attack power was high, and he paired well with Rumeya.

With the gifted Aeris supporting them from the rear, the three could become an exceptional team.

“My [Priest] skill gives me healing magic and light—holy—magic, and makes me proficient with staffs and maces. As a [Mage], I’m especially good with wind, water, and lightning, though I can use every basic element. [Barrier Master] should eventually let me use all forms of barrier and defensive magic, but there are still many spells I can’t cast.”

The more Tauro heard, the clearer it became that Aeris was extraordinarily blessed with skills.

No wonder people expected so much from her.

She undoubtedly had the potential to become an expert rear guard.

It might not be long before the other three left the village and became a famous adventuring team.

Tauro looked forward to seeing that day.

After gathering the herbs, the four conducted a practical exercise in coordination.

Aeris’s ability to launch the first strike as a [Mage] was immediately useful.

The team had previously relied entirely on physical attacks, so magic greatly expanded their options.

Aeris considered her role, made suggestions, and asked how she should move, actively exploring possible combinations.

Tauro advised her, played the enemy himself, and helped everyone test their movements. The four spent a productive time together.
