Chapter 446: Good Fortune at Work

Leaving Saint Matilda to wait at the Graunewald residence in the Royal Capital, Tauro and Ragune went to fetch Aeris.

Ragune’s [Dimensional Corridor] connected to Aeris’s private room at the Van Dyne residence in the marquisate’s territorial capital.

Tauro moved through first with [Spatial Transfer], and Ragune followed immediately afterward.

“So this is Aeris’s family home. It’s already dark, so I can’t see much outside, but the room certainly feels luxurious.”

While Tauro looked around, Ragune knocked on an interior door.

“Yes? Who is it?” Aeris called from the other side.

“It’s me, Ragune. May I come in?”

“Ragune? What brings you here at this hour? I can’t come out just yet, so make yourself comfortable.”

Taking that as permission, Ragune brought Tauro into the room.

Aeris’s private chambers were unexpectedly bright and charming. Flowers were displayed throughout the room, and frills decorated the cushions and dolls arranged on the chairs. The entire space reflected an unmistakably feminine taste.

I always thought Aeris preferred simple surroundings when we lived together in Dansas, but perhaps this is what she truly likes.

Tauro found the unfamiliar side of her refreshing.

Aeris herself was nowhere in sight. Several doors opened from the room, and Tauro sensed someone behind one of them.

“Ragune, listen! I found something adorable in town. Look—”

The door opened, and Aeris stepped through while speaking.

Tauro happened to be standing directly in front of it.

Aeris wore only a newly purchased set of cute underwear and was adjusting the fit at her chest as she looked up, intending to show it to Ragune.

Then she saw Tauro.

“Ah… It certainly is cute,” Tauro managed, having no idea what else to say.

“Aaaah!”

Aeris slapped him with such speed that even Tauro couldn’t react.

Pella normally intercepted attacks against its master immediately, but it did nothing. The slime familiar had apparently concluded that this wasn’t an attack it should prevent.

Tauro spun around and collapsed.

“Tauro! Are you all right?” Ragune rushed toward him.

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t know you were here!”

Aeris ran over as well, still dressed only in her underwear.

“I’m fine… but could you put on some clothes first?” Tauro asked, blushing as he turned his face away.

Only then did Aeris remember her condition. With a startled squeak, she fled into the adjoining room.

The slap had been merciless, but Tauro’s [Super Recovery and Regeneration] began repairing the damage almost immediately.

Pella casually abandoned its disguise and bounced around as though nothing had happened.

“Pella, you deliberately chose not to block that, did you not?”

Tauro rubbed his cheek and stared at his treacherous familiar.

Pella quivered, then bounced up and down in an obvious attempt to appear innocent.

“Fine. Not blocking it was probably the correct decision. Even I understand that.”

Tauro forgave the slime with a wry smile.

“This was my fault,” Ragune called toward the adjoining room. “I tried to surprise you and didn’t mention that Tauro was with me. I’m sorry, Aeris.”

“It’s all right. Nothing truly happened, and I was careless to come out dressed like that in front of a friend. Tauro, are you certain you’re all right? I struck you very hard.”

For speed, Aeris put on the adventuring clothes Tauro had returned to her and soon emerged fully dressed.

“It’s been a long time since I saw you wearing that,” Tauro said as he stood, now completely recovered.

“It had become slightly tight, so I had it adjusted. Does it still look all right?”

Aeris turned in place, a little shy as she showed him the outfit.

“It suits you perfectly. This is the Aeris I remember.”

Tauro smiled, and Ragune quietly watched their exchange without interrupting.

“Why did the two of you come here so urgently at this hour?” Aeris finally asked.

“Actually…”

Tauro briefly explained how he had encountered Matilda and brought her to the Graunewald residence.

“You’re already dealing with the Saint, even before becoming one of her attendants?” Aeris sighed. “I understand. I’ll speak with her. From what you have described, however, you must be extremely careful about how she’s treated. A mistake could become an international incident.”

Aeris privately lamented Tauro’s lack of finesse in dealing with women, then took his hand and turned toward Ragune.

“Ragune, please hurry. If we make her wait much longer, that Saint may wander into the city alone.”

“Understood!”

Ragune eagerly opened [Dimensional Corridor].

“Then let’s return to the Royal Capital.”

Tauro held Aeris’s hand securely and used [Spatial Transfer] to move them back instantly.
