Chapter 44: The Curry Shop Plan

The proprietress of the Yasuragi Inn, Leo, and Tauro met to discuss the inn’s future menu.

“I admit the curry is unbelievably delicious, but I’m worried about whether it’ll turn a profit.”

The proprietress was referring to the price of the spices.

“They’re rare enough that they can only be obtained through the royal capital, aren’t they?”

“I think we can reduce the cost by placing a bulk order with the Garfish Trading Company. Spices keep for a long time, so holding a large inventory won’t be a problem.”

Tauro answered confidently.

Besides, he had his own magic storage.

“I see. If we can make a profit while keeping it affordable, I have no objection. This curry really is delicious, though. I think it deserves its own specialty restaurant. Leo, would you be willing to buy the tavern across the street and turn it into a new establishment?”

“The tavern across the street?”

Leo looked caught off guard.

“Yes. I’m delighted that the Yasuragi Inn is thriving, but if we add any more dishes and attract even more customers, we won’t be able to keep up.”

She had a point.

The menu had grown because Tauro wanted to eat certain dishes. Adding too many increased the workload, so dividing the offerings between two establishments might be best.

“Do you think the owner of the tavern across the street would sell?”

“He often complains that he’s getting old and wants to hand the place over to someone.”

The proprietress, who was apparently a close friend of his, answered immediately.

“Then it’s settled. That only leaves the money…”

“I’ll provide it.”

Tauro had the money from selling the magic-storage backpack.

“Are you sure? It won’t be cheap.”

Leo didn’t know that Tauro had received a reward far larger than anyone imagined.

Tauro took a leather purse full of money from magic storage and placed it on the table.

“Of course. It’s an investment, so I’ll receive a return from the shop’s earnings.”

“It’s astonishing that someone your age can put down so much money without blinking.”

Leo and the proprietress burst out laughing.

When they offered the tavern owner a large lump-sum payment, he immediately answered, “Sold!”

He must have been eager for a comfortable retirement.

“Thank you, ma’am, and you too, Branch Manager. Now I can finally take it easy. My knees have gotten so bad lately that even standing is painful.”

The negotiations concluded smoothly amid the tavern owner’s gratitude, and the contract was signed.

Renovations began one week later.

Tauro was still living in one of the guild’s rooms.

As an E-rank adventurer with a fair amount of money, he could reasonably have obtained a home of his own. Even so, he was still only ten years old.

Leo felt safer keeping Tauro somewhere he could watch over him for the time being.

Tauro had also consulted Nei.

“If you don’t have other plans, why not stay in your current room? You pay rent properly. The guild earns money from an otherwise empty room, and we can protect you. There’s no problem, is there?”

That was her view.

Now that Tauro had magic storage, his belongings would never crowd the room, so he saw no reason to leave such a convenient place.

During those busy but relatively peaceful days, a quest arrived from the kingdom.

Every guild branch in the region between the royal capital and Saisi received the same operation: “Subjugate the Bandits on the Highway.”

It was divided into several assignments: searching for the bandits, scouting them after they were located, and the large-scale force that would subjugate them.

Tauro was uncertain what to choose, but searching for the bandits seemed well suited to him.

The subjugation force would be fighting people, even if those people were enemies. Anything might happen, so there was no harm in choosing cautiously.

When he asked Nei about the search assignment, she explained, “The Saisi branch plans to send nine people in total, divided into three teams of three.”

Tauro had never worked in a party before, but gaining the experience now would help him in the future.

He decided to join the quest.
