Chapter 381: A Specialty Proposal for the Territory

Count Graunewald was astonished when Tauro proposed farming the Flaming Crabs that had disrupted Caxart’s salt production.

“Tauro, have you lost your senses? Those monsters nearly destroyed the city’s principal industry, and you want to raise them?”

Rather than rely on explanation alone, Tauro removed several prepared dishes from [Magic Storage] and arranged them before his father.

“What are these?”

“Dishes made from Flaming Crab.”

“Flaming Crab?!”

“Their meat is the reason I believe controlled farming could benefit Caxart. Please taste them before deciding.”

At his son’s urging, Count Graunewald cautiously tried the crab tempura.

 His eyes widened.

Without commenting, he sampled the grilled crab, crab rice, soup, and the remaining dishes. His expression grew more impressed with every bite.

“I understand your reasoning,” he finally said. “This is extraordinarily delicious. It could certainly become a celebrated local specialty. But farming monsters must be dangerous.”

Tauro explained that the Flaming Crab’s fireball attack originated in its enormous left claw. Removing that claw from mature specimens and treating the wound to prevent regrowth would substantially reduce the danger, although strict safeguards would remain necessary.

“Can the risk truly be reduced that much?”

“I believe so. They’d still be monsters, so House Graunewald should operate the first facility directly and wholesale the meat to businesses only after the method proves safe.”

Count Graunewald stared at him, then burst into delighted laughter.

“My son is remarkable!”

“Father?”

“Who else would taste the loathed monsters of the salt lake and decide to turn them into a source of prosperity? I’m fortunate to have you as my son.”

He slapped Tauro’s shoulder proudly and turned to Ankh.

“Is my son not extraordinary?”

“He’s,” Ankh replied with an amused smile. “I’m pleased that my former commander became Leader’s father, and even more pleased that Leader remains my companion.”

“I’ll order a secure facility constructed beside the salt lake,” Count Graunewald decided. “However, this raises another difficulty.”

 He sighed.

“I’m administering Caxart directly for now, but I can’t remain here indefinitely. This city is too important to entrust to an unreliable mayor. The capable officials I trust already govern other towns and villages.”

“Black-Gold Wings intends to tour the territory,” Tauro said. “As territorial inspector, I can observe the local administrators. If we find a suitable candidate, I’ll recommend that person.”

“That would be extremely helpful. I’ll rely on your judgment.”

“There’s one more matter, Father.”

Tauro removed several pouches from [Magic Storage] and placed them on the table.

“These contain improved crops that may become additional specialties of the territory.”

“What kinds?”

“Rigaud fruit bred for exceptional sweetness, sweet potatoes, strawberries, and tomoro.”

Count Graunewald examined the seeds and seed potatoes.

“How did you obtain improved varieties so quickly?”

“With [Creation Magic (Weak)].”

The count’s delight immediately gave way to concern.

“That’s the dangerous magic you used during your equipment experiments. Don’t risk your life for agricultural development.”

“These modifications required far less magical power than the gauntlets. I completed them safely.”

His father remained wary. The stories Tauro and Ankh had shared included too many incidents in which Tauro had pushed himself to the edge of death.

“I’ll accept them gratefully and have trials conducted near the territorial capital,” Count Graunewald said. “[Creation Magic (Weak)] is astonishing, but the idea of using it to improve crops may be even more extraordinary.”

“Leader thinks differently from ordinary people,” Ankh boasted.

“That’s why traveling with Tauro is always interesting,” Ragune added, striking his shoulder affectionately.

“Tauro-sama is wonderful. I’ll follow you anywhere!” Zion declared.

“Please stop. This is embarrassing.”

Tauro waved his hands while everyone praised him.

Then a new possibility occurred to him.

Until that moment, even Tauro had assumed that [Creation Magic (Weak)] could only modify something that already existed.

What if that assumption was wrong?

He became eager to test the idea immediately.
