Chapter 289: The Adoption Proposal (3)
At Marquis Van Dyne’s Royal Capital residence, Tauro briefly reunited with his companions before everyone turned to the matter of his adoption.
“There’s much I would like you to learn about Count Graunewald, but the officials handling the formalities are already waiting in the next room. Let us complete the paperwork first.”
Marquis Van Dyne restrained the count, who clearly wanted to continue talking, then nodded to the servants to signal that they were ready.
A man in a government official’s uniform entered the room.
After acknowledging Marquis Van Dyne, the official spread the documents across the desk and indicated where Tauro should sign.
Count Graunewald had already signed the papers.
Marquis Van Dyne had, of course, signed the sections reserved for Tauro’s guardian.
“Please sign here, here, here, and here. This document also confirms once more that your legal ties to the blood relatives from whom you were previously separated have been formally severed.”
The official carefully explained each document.
Tauro nodded and signed the stack of papers one after another.
“Yes… good. Everything appears to be in order. Thank you for your cooperation. I need only take these documents back and complete the remaining procedures. I’ll return to the office at once. Marquis Van Dyne, Count Graunewald, I shall visit again once the processing is complete.”
After offering his farewells, the official boarded the carriage prepared by the marquis and returned to the government office.
“That completes everything required of us today. Once the government finishes processing the documents, Tauro will officially become Count Graunewald’s adopted son. Congratulations, Count.”
Marquis Van Dyne extended his hand, and Count Graunewald shook it.

Tauro, as soon as the adoption receives final approval, I’ll file a formal complaint concerning Viscount Saissi and pursue the case using the evidence held by the Prime Minister’s faction. Until then, please remain hidden somewhere safe.”
After thanking the marquis, Count Graunewald turned to Tauro with a smile.
“Thank you. I’m sorry that everyone has had to go to so much trouble for my sake.”
Tauro apologized to the man who would soon become his father on paper.
“There’s no need. As I said, my wife and I are admirers of yours. Even if the relationship is initially only a legal one, it’ll be an honor to become your parents. Ah, perhaps it’s still a little early to say that. Ha ha!”
Count Graunewald laughed cheerfully.
“So the leader will soon be a noble, huh? What happens to us then, Ragune?”
Watching the exchange between Tauro and the count, Ankh quietly voiced the question to Ragune.

Impressed by her unwavering answer, Ankh let his concern go.
“Ordinarily, I’d give the count and Tauro time to speak at length, but my daughter also has much she wishes to discuss with him. Count, would you mind waiting until the adoption is formally approved?”
Marquis Van Dyne glanced at Aeris as he asked Count Graunewald.
“Ha ha ha! Of course not. Even if this arrangement begins as a temporary measure, I’d gladly wait years for the chance to welcome Tauro into my family.”
Count Graunewald readily agreed, and he and Marquis Van Dyne left the room.
“I’m sorry again for all the trouble I’ve caused everyone. Aeris, you put a great deal of thought and effort into this. Thank you.”
“It’s all right. I’ve always depended on you, Tauro. I thought it was time for me to become more independent, and this gave me the opportunity.”
“Independent?”

“You do seem more mature than when I last saw you. Have you grown taller too?”
Tauro raised a hand as though comparing Aeris’s height with his own.
“You’ve grown taller too, Tauro. Though otherwise, you haven’t changed much in such a short time. Oh—that reminds me. What have you been doing over there? We completed plenty of quests in the D-rank band ourselves. The Assassins’ Guild shouldn’t be able to detect you inside this residence, so tell us everything.
