Chapter 264: Fun Shopping (2)
After buying several magic stones, Tauro descended to the second floor while the delighted clerks saw him off.
The second floor was devoted to weapons.
He had no intention of buying one, but he wanted to compare the merchandise with the weapons he had commissioned or made and use what he learned as a reference.
As expected of a dragonfolk shop, the weapons were of excellent quality, and some had elemental attributes or other enchantments.
A few had shapes whose purpose Tauro couldn’t immediately understand, but they wouldn’t be stocked unless someone had a use for them.
Many items attracted his attention, yet he found nothing suitable to replace the knives he currently used.
“Perhaps I should try another shop… That leaves the armor.”
After finishing his tour of the weapon floor, Tauro went down to the first.
Dragon’s Breath Armory carried an extensive selection of armor and clothing.
The clothing area was crowded, with many local women browsing the displays.
The armor ranged from heavy plate to light leather equipment sized for children.
Tauro had grown taller since turning thirteen, but his body was still that of a child.
He was now close to Aeris in height, so they might wear roughly the same size.
While thinking about that, he noticed a garment intended for a priest or mage.
“Oh, Aeris could wear this size.”
Tauro picked it up and imagined Aeris wearing it.
The price tag marked it as a very expensive item.
It was made from loose white fabric accented with purple and blue, much like the clothing Aeris usually wore.
A socket near the chest allowed a processed magic stone to be fitted, granting an effect determined by the stone used.
The design wasn’t exactly what Tauro wanted, but he decided to buy it. “A little modification should turn this into something excellent.”
In the end, Tauro left Dragon’s Breath Armory without purchasing anything for himself.
He next headed to Dragon Knight Armory, a nearby shop specializing in one-of-a-kind equipment.
“Welcome!”
Dragon Knight Armory stood only a few doors away. It was smaller than Dragon’s Breath Armory and had an adjoining workshop that gave it a more intimate atmosphere.
True to its specialty, no two pieces were identical. Every item had its own design and characteristics.
At first glance, Tauro thought he might have better luck finding something suited to him here.
“A human…? Then you must be Lord Tauro. Thank you for visiting our shop!”
Once again, Tauro was welcomed as the village’s benefactor.
“Ahaha… May I look around?”
“Of course!”
Receiving almost the same enthusiastic reply as before, Tauro began inspecting the merchandise.
Even without [True Eye], he could tell that every item was exceptionally well made.
The selection was deliberately different from that of Dragon’s Breath Armory.
However, most of the equipment was made for adults, and very little appeared to fit Tauro.
That would normally have been expected in a dragonfolk shop, but the broad range in the previous store had raised his expectations.
“Many pieces can be adjusted to some extent, depending on their construction, so please don’t worry too much about size. What are you looking for?”
The male clerk had apparently noticed Tauro’s reaction.
“Ideally, I need light but sturdy leather armor, a small shield with the same qualities for myself, and a lightweight large shield for one of my companions.”
Tauro answered while continuing to scan the displays.
“Leather armor? In that case, I recommend the workshop that recently separated from ours. The dwarf who ran that section produced our finest leather equipment. As for a shield, what do you think of this round one? Its facing was hammered from an unknown metal recovered from a golem in this dungeon. The core is carved from the wood of a plant-type monster, so it’s both strong and light. It’s expensive, but one of our craftsmen is especially proud of it.”
The clerk removed the shield from a high display and handed it to Tauro.
It was surprisingly light, sat comfortably in his hand, and looked extremely durable.
[True Eye] confirmed that the price was high, but the workmanship and materials more than justified it.
“For the larger shield… how about this one? It’s called a long shield. Judging from the shortsword at your waist, however, it wouldn’t suit your own fighting style.”
“It’s not for me. I was thinking of my companion Ragune…”
“Ragune? Then it should suit her perfectly. She’s a [Dragon Knight] and fights with a spear. A shield like this can be handled alongside a spear, and she has wanted one for some time.”
The clerk clearly knew Ragune.
Perhaps she was a regular customer.
Then again, it would hardly be strange for dragonfolk from the same village to know one another.
“How’s she? She hasn’t shown her face here for quite a while, so I was worried. Ah, I should mention that I’m one of her relatives.”
One of her relatives?
Tauro made the silent retort, then understood why the clerk was so needlessly handsome. The family resemblance was convincing.
