Chapter 263: Fun Shopping (1)
Dragon’s Breath Armory had every bit as impressive a selection as Tauro had heard.
The three-story building displayed armor and clothing on the first floor, all kinds of weapons on the second, and staffs and processed magic stones on the third.
After checking the request board, Tauro had come primarily to buy armor for himself. However, since he also crafted equipment for Aeris and his other companions, everything else in the shop interested him too.
He changed his plan slightly and climbed straight to the third floor so that he could examine the store from the top down.
He would leave his own armor—the main purpose of the trip—until last.
“The third floor is a jewel box filled with wands and magic stones~♪”
Tauro praised the sight before him with a phrase he had heard somewhere before.
Colorful magic stones filled the glass cases alongside daily-use magic tools made from them. Wands of every shape and size, fashioned from many different materials and fitted with various stones, lined the displays.
The customers were just as varied: mages examining merchandise, homemakers purchasing household magic tools, and warriors who had come to sell magic stones.
“This floor seems to be the busiest.”
Tauro joined the crowd and began examining the goods.
He checked their value with [True Eye]. Unlike in the Royal Capital, the appraised values and the listed prices were almost identical.
The shop’s purchase prices were probably lower than those in the Royal Capital and other large cities.
Even so, its retail prices were fair.
“Oh? Are you Lord Tauro? Thank you very much. Please let me know if there’s anything you would like to see.”
A male employee had noticed Tauro, an unusual human visitor in the dragonfolk village, and approached him.
“Thank you. I will.”
Tauro bowed and continued through the displays one item at a time.
He couldn’t help comparing every wand he saw with the one he had made for Aeris.
Ragune had previously told him that even among the dragonfolk, research into magic circles hadn’t advanced very far.
The wands sold here allowed a processed magic stone to be attached either to increase the user’s magical power or to enable a fixed spell. Tauro couldn’t find any that incorporated a magic circle designed to draw out a stone’s innate ability.
Nevertheless, the floor offered a remarkable range of magic tools, including many that were difficult to find even in the Royal Capital.
What pleased Tauro most was the presence of rare, unprocessed magic stones.
One small, pale-blue stone in a special glass case immediately caught his shining eyes.
The label read: “Water Dragon Magic Stone. Please ask a clerk for the price.”
Rather than call anyone over, Tauro first tried to examine it with [True Eye].
The display, however, blocked appraisal, preventing him from seeing the price or detailed information.
“An appraisal-obstructing case? This must be extremely valuable.”
As Tauro murmured to himself, the clerk suddenly appeared beside him.
“It’s an exceptionally rare stone. A dungeon-conquest party brought it back several decades ago. Its price is thirty platinum coins—roughly three hundred million yen by your old-world reckoning.”
The clerk whispered the figure into Tauro’s ear.
“Thirty…! That’s outrageous. It may be small, but the magical power inside it’s extraordinary. It would be interesting to attach it to Aeris’s wand, but… it’s far too expensive.”
“Ha ha ha! That stone is one of our store’s showpieces. I hear the conquest party struggled greatly to obtain it, so its history is reflected in the price. Naturally, very few people could ever buy it.”
The clerk tried to console what he mistook for Tauro’s disappointment.
“No, I could buy it if I chose to. I simply don’t think my friend would be pleased if I spent that much on her…”
With a wry smile, Tauro drew a pouch packed with platinum coins from [Magic Storage].
“What?!”
The clerk froze with his eyes wide, audibly swallowing at the sight of so much money.
Thanks to the sales of his many magic tools, Tauro had quietly become extremely wealthy.
Yet he rarely spent lavishly.
He never knew when another emergency—like the crisis involving Aeris—might require an enormous sum.
Tauro believed there was no harm in saving for such a possibility, and so his fortune had continued to grow.
“Actually, could you show me some of the other magic stones?”
An idea had occurred to him. With the clerk explaining each item, Tauro selected and purchased several of the more expensive stones.
