Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 103: A Companion’s Misfortune

Two days after testing the Bow of Artemis, Shin returned from his home village.

Tauro and Aeris had just come back from an herb-gathering quest and were about to report to the guild when they encountered him.

Seeing that Shin had returned alone, Tauro assumed his girlfriend would arrive later.

“Welcome back, Shin. I’m looking forward to the day she gets here.”

“…Tauro, that day will never come. She broke up with me…”

Shin’s shoulders slumped, and tears streamed down his face.

“What?!”

The answer was so unexpected that Tauro could say nothing more.

“Why did she break up with you?” Aeris asked the very question Tauro had carefully avoided.

“…She found another man while I was away…”

Ah, the classic long-distance problem…

Tauro sympathized with Shin but had no idea what to say, so he remained silent.

“You didn’t keep in touch with her regularly, did you? Then you brought it on yourself,” Aeris said without mercy.

Aeris! What do you know about this at your age?!

Tauro rebuked her inwardly. Deciding Shin had suffered enough, he warned Aeris to stop and encouraged Shin to go home.

Shin trudged away looking utterly drained. Almost immediately, Rumeya returned in his place.

Thank goodness they didn’t meet. Seeing Rumeya’s happiness would only have deepened Shin’s wound. Tauro resolved to explain the situation and warn Rumeya before he accidentally rubbed salt into it.

“Welcome back, Rumeya. Is your girlfriend coming later? I’m sorry to interrupt your happiness, but Shin—”

“…She eloped!”

Tauro could have sworn Rumeya had just announced something ominous out of nowhere.

“What?”

Unable to believe his ears, Tauro immediately asked him to repeat himself.

“She ran away with a man who used to be one of my underlings…!”

You too?!

Tauro groaned inwardly.

“It happened to you too? Shin is depressed because his girlfriend found another man,” Aeris said, apparently determined to exercise no tact whatsoever.

“What? Shin too?”

Rumeya was still reeling from his own shock, but his expression changed when he heard about his friend.

“Yes. Stop moping and go talk to him. You’re the older one.”

Don’t ask the impossible, Aeris. Rumeya is in shock too…

Tauro was about to object to Aeris’s unreasonable demand.

“…All right. I’ll go to Shin’s house.”

Rumeya bravely showed his big-brotherly nature and ran off to see Shin.

Perhaps Aeris understands people better than I thought.

Tauro found himself impressed that she had turned the terrible situation in a better direction.

The next day, Shin and Rumeya had recovered when the four met outside the guild. The two had reached a decision.

“Shin and I are going to share one house,” Rumeya explained. “Why don’t you live in the one I planned to rent?”

“It’s too large for one person anyway,” Shin added. “The house I was going to rent has three rooms, so why don’t you and Aeris live there together? You could use one room as shared storage.”

Surely Aeris would refuse. She might only be fourteen, but she was still a girl. Even if Tauro was a child, she wouldn’t want to live with a boy.

“Aeris wouldn’t be comfortable with that.”

“I don’t mind. I’ve been thinking of moving out of the Dwarf Inn too.”

You don’t?!

Tauro was surprised by how readily Aeris agreed.

“My belongings have increased so much that the Dwarf Inn is becoming cramped. Besides, the house is close to Shin and Rumeya’s, isn’t it? That will be more convenient for the team.”

She was right: living near one another would be useful. Surprised that Aeris had considered it so carefully, Tauro had no reason left to object.

Before moving in, Tauro asked the village chief, who managed the property, whether they could extend or alter the house. The chief agreed and said they could even demolish and rebuild it if they wished.

Tauro immediately got to work.

He asked Aeris to use earth magic to build walls for an extension. She followed his instructions, which included hollowing out the ground beneath it to create an underground space.

“What are you building?”

“You’ll see later.”

Tauro then broke through the original wall and connected the house to the space Aeris had created.
