Chapter 100: More Creation Magic (Weak)

Tauro was thrilled that [Creation Magic] had worked, and Aeris was amazed—but their excitement didn’t last long.

After several experiments, they quickly learned that the spell consumed an enormous amount of mana, couldn’t create something from nothing, required raw materials, and couldn’t produce anything too large.

Perhaps the problem was the “Weak” attached to its name. Otherwise, it was very different from the creation magic Tauro had imagined.

He pondered the matter while drinking yet another mana-recovery potion.

“Hmm… In that case, the safest choice would be something small, made from readily available materials, that this world’s technology couldn’t produce.”

He was muttering to himself.

“…Then I know what you should make.”

“What?”

Aeris had joined his one-sided conversation.

“Wha—what?!”

Lost in his own thoughts, Tauro jumped at her voice.

“Hey! Don’t forget I’m here!”

Aeris puffed out her cheeks and sulked.

“Sorry, sorry. To make it up to you, I’ll create any small item you want.”

“Then make me a pendant that combines your creation magic with the magic circles you’re so good at.”

Aeris had proposed something Tauro himself hadn’t considered.

Even with [Precision], there was a limit to how finely he could craft small objects, no matter what tools he prepared. The ability to transform materials into different shapes—and reshape hard substances—was beyond even the technology of his previous life.

“All right.”

Tauro took a small diamond-shaped fragment of the dungeon core, one silver coin, and one gold coin from [Magic Storage], then enclosed them between his hands.

“[Creation Magic]!”

Light briefly leaked between his palms before fading.

When he opened his hands, he found a pendant: an egg-shaped silver plate edged in gold, with a heart-shaped stone at its center and a design resembling wings extending from it. An intricate gold pattern based on the magic circle Aeris had suggested decorated the pendant, and a hole had been formed at the top for a cord.

When Tauro tried to appraise it with [True Eye], he couldn’t determine its value, perhaps because the stone possessed an appraisal-obstruction effect.

That meant the stone had an ability and the magic circle was bringing it out.

“Yes! It worked!”

Tauro happily handed the pendant to Aeris.

“It’s based on our team! And the shape of the stone is so cute! I’ll treasure it!”

Tauro sighed in relief when he saw how much she liked it—then staggered.

He had run out of mana. He hurriedly drank another mana-recovery potion. The spell appeared to have consumed even more mana than the potion he had taken earlier had restored.

For the time being, Tauro told Aeris that the pendant obstructed appraisal and asked her to investigate whether it had any other effects herself.

Aeris nodded happily and skipped back to the inn.

After seeing her off, Tauro made pendants for Shin and Rumeya as well, changing their stones from hearts to teardrops. Hearts would be a little much for the two men.

Then he decided to make a sword for Bob.

First, he visited a blacksmith to buy the necessary materials.

He obtained iron ore, but the smithy had no iron sand, so he used [Magic Storage] to gather it in an almost cheat-like fashion.

A katana was normally forged from tamahagane steel, which first had to be produced from iron sand using a traditional tatara furnace. This world possessed no such technology, but [Creation Magic] conveniently allowed Tauro to skip the entire process.

For the handle and scabbard, he prepared wood from the treasure chest found in the dungeon. For the stone set into the pommel, he would use the Goblin Sorcerer’s magic stone Bob had kept as a memento. He would also add a fragment of the dungeon core.

Tauro visited Bob’s house, explained why he needed it, and borrowed the magic stone. As a precaution, he claimed that he would have a skilled blacksmith he knew make the weapon.

After drinking three mana-recovery potions in preparation, Tauro went to the outskirts of the village and cast [Creation Magic].

For an instant, light enveloped the entire area, then quickly vanished.

A katana rested in Tauro’s hands.

Before he could celebrate, the spell drained every last drop of his mana and he collapsed. As his consciousness faded, he forced a mana-recovery potion into his mouth and passed out.

By the time he awoke, evening had fallen. The finished katana was still clutched in his hand.

“…I nearly died from mana exhaustion. I think this will be the last katana I make…”

Reflecting on his recklessness, Tauro drew the katana from its scabbard.

A faint flame wreathed the blade.

“Oh! Is this what you’d call a magic katana?”

He had already suspected as much, but even [True Eye] couldn’t appraise it.

“At any rate, Bob’s present is finished!”

Tauro admired the completed magic katana with satisfaction.
