Chapter 412: The Capital City Quest

Tauro and his friends spent a few peaceful days in the capital, completing several quests at the Adventurers’ Guild and earning a good reputation.

“Do you have any quests that involve traveling to villages in the vicinity of the capital?”

The adventurer’s guild in the capital city is particularly large, and due to the number of requests it receives, there are a lot of quests posted on the bulletin board.

And not to mention the fact that Tauro and the others had been outsiders until a few days before.

Other than Ankh, Tauro had little knowledge of the area, so rather than searching on the message board, he decided to quickly ask the receptionist.

“In the surrounding villages? That’s unusual. Most people who first come to this Graunewald branch say, ‘I want a quest in the city!’ but… Hehe, yes… If it’s nearby, how about this one? It’s a request from a large village on the outskirts of the capital. However, the reward for completing it is a little low…”

The receptionist tried to recommend a quest that no one else was willing to take on to the team of new adventurers who were making an unusual request.

The offered request reads, “Transportation and guarding of agricultural products and the like. Magic storage or magical tools with it attached required. D to E rank. You will be required to travel for a long period of time to visit the surrounding villages to sell our products.”

“Even if you’re a D rank, this is a job for D- to E- ranks, right?”

Tauro squinted at the request form, the writing of which was fading.

 We are D+ adventurers.

Since he felt that he would soon reach the C-rank range, he wondered if it would affect the prestige of the adventurer’s guild if an adventurer like him took on the job for such a low reward.

“…… I’m afraid so. The team of adventurers who used to take it on has retired, and the current adventurers won’t take on the job. …… But as an adventurer’s guild, even if the reward is low, they’re a valued customer, so we’d like to take them on as long as possible. ─ ─ so Please.”

The receptionist must have thought Tauro seemed like a nice person, so she made a praying pose and asked him.

“…… what do you guys think?”

“Why don’t we do it? It’s perfect for what we’re trying to do too.”

 Ankh agreed.

“I agree. I don’t see any problem with that. The work is easy, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go around the villages around the capital?”

Ragune had no intention of objecting.

“If it’s okay with Tauro-sama, then it’s okay with me!”

Zion has been a yes man from the beginning, so her answer was predictable.

“Well then, we’ll take care of it. ─ ─ I’d like to take on this quest please.”

Tauro nodded to everyone and asked the receptionist to complete the formalities.

Then she said she wanted them to head over there, right away.

Apparently, as per the request, they are currently touring each village and since freshness is their selling point, they want them to come quickly and store and preserve the produce in the magic storage.

When Tauro heard about this, he first went to the Magic Tool Street to do his business, and then headed to the village where the client was located.

The village was located on the outskirts of the capital, and had a long, quiet atmosphere with a countryside landscape spreading out all around.

“It’s a pretty big village. And the scenery is beautiful.”

Ragune admired the village with its many windmills.

“If I recall correctly, this village made its fortune by shipping its crops to various places.”

Ankh said, trying to recall his memories if he had been here before.

“The scenery is really beautiful. I’ve never seen such big windmills before!”

Zion is thrilled by the scenery she was seeing for the first time.

“Hmm. It true that the fields are quite large. Even so, it’s rare to ship products outside of a populated capital. I thought other villages were basically self-sufficient.”

Tauro expressed his doubts as they made their way to the village chief’s house.

“Normally, yes. But as you can see, this village produces so much food that it is called the capital’s food supply. Because they produce so much, the cost goes down, and they can wholesale it cheaply. Even in other villages, there are crops they can’t produce even if they are self-sufficient, and if they can get something cheap and tasty, they’ll choose that, won’t they?”

Ankh seemed to remember his previous knowledge and explained it fluently.

“I see. So our role is to ship all those agricultural products to  the various villages.”

Tauro was satisfied with Ankh’s explanation and understood the request.

As we were having this conversation we walked up a small hill and came to the village chief’s house.

It was a large building standing beside a row of large warehouses, but it was a simple house without an air of extravagance.

A man appeared from the house, perhaps having seen Tauro and the others coming.

“I presume you are the adventurers who have accepted our request?”

“Yes, we are the D+ adventurer team ‘Black-Golden Wings’. Are you the village chief who requested our services?”

Although he was old, Tauro, seeing his firm steps and energetic eyes, took a chance and asked.

“Oh! Thank you for coming! I am the village chief of this village. I would like you to accompany my son on a tour of the village right away. Is that okay?”

He was probably eagerly awaiting the meeting, and without even a quick hello, he quickly got to talking about work.

“What?! So soon?”

  It is already past noon.

Even Tauro was surprised at this impatience.

“By the way, your magic storage is of course at least (medium), right? It’s been a big help. We are short on staff because all of our people are out on the farm and can’t get around to shipping out the goods. It costs a lot of money to send out a couple of wagons, so having an adventurer with magic storage is a big help.”

The village chief then led Tauro and his friends to an adjacent warehouse.

When the chief opened the door of the warehouse, they found it was filled to the brim with piles of sacks filled with farm produce.

“First of all, could you please put the stuff in this warehouse in storage? These were supposed to be shipped to other villages and towns yesterday. Please ship these out first, and then when you come back, I’ll ask you to put away the rest.”

The village chief asked happily, perhaps out of relief.

“…… this amount of food is amazing.”

Ankh spoke on behalf of the group.

“…… this is an even larger scale quest than I thought.”

Tauro nodded broadly in agreement with the surprised Ankh.
