Chapter 8: Obstacle course

I pushed my way through the brush and trees toward the river.

　Where at first I was fed up with the difficulty of walking, then I thought, oh, Why don’t I just make a path? Forgetting that I had half-destroyed a mountain earlier. Saying “Here I go!’’ I threw a stone with an underhand throw. ───── Result

“Hmmm… this all kinds of bad, isn’t it…?”

　The road? The road was made.

　It is the reemergence of bang- thud-thud avalanche and environmental destruction.

　A ditch continued straight from where I was standing, which I had expected, but large trees started to fall on top of it from right to left.

　There was a continuous thumping sound in the distance, dust and leaves flying, and then it became silent. There was a little bird noise. Birds, there are birds.

　I found myself standing there with my arms crossed in the dust that came afterwards 

　My intention was to make an easy path, but it turned into an obstacle course.

　Did I do this? Since it's a road, I jumped from one fallen tree to the next, only to have the tree I used as a springboard explode with a bang the moment I did.

“Huh? oh? Eh! Hey, hey!”

　After destroying about five large trees, I stopped and tried to calm down.

　“What? Am I using too much force?”

　I don’t understand – I looked back the way I came, but the sky had opened up a bit.

"eh~ what about like this then? Is it still too strong? Is it like this? still strong~? Like this? Is this right?”

　I was stubbornly determined to fly well, occasional vandalism and the road? By the time the end of the road was in sight, I was moving like a character in a certain anime. ───── Imitating? I wasn’t copying – I just used it as a reference.*

“─────Come on! You can do it if you try.”

　I pat myself on the back. No one else is here, you know.

　I checked the map and found that I was about two thirds of the way from where I had been. By the way, the map appeared properly this time. The cursor was jiggling at full speed but I ignored it, wondering “Is…is...is this how it should be?……” 

　“Now let's ‥‥‥‥ see if we can find something to eat."    

　I looked around, but there was not a single fruit on the trees, just a vast expanse of lush green. I guess I can’t expect much~ I lowered my gaze

　before my eyes, walking on two legs,  a matsutake mushroom crosses in front of me Hohohohohoing at a jogging speed.

“What ─────?”

　While I was dumbfounded by this sight, which would never have happened in my original world, the walking mushroom disappeared into the depths of the bushes, straddling over them in an old man-like gesture.　　　

“─────What? Do the mushrooms here move?”

　As I stared dumbfounded at the place where the mushroom had disappeared, more mushrooms pass by, skittering ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho. I suddenly came to myself and try to “appraise'' it, but I had learned my lesson.

“Small, concise ‘appraisals.’”

　EEeee, just like that~ A smaller screen appeared. However, the text are displayed on the screen in a very small space, and half of themissing the word “mushroom” was missing.

　When I sighed in pain at yet another clunky feature, “Is this the screen?” the screen went back to its original state. Was it wrong?

‘It was like this?’ ‘Like this?’ ‘How about this?’ And the characters are switched.

　In the end, a display appears as if to say, “How about this?”

　“It’s a walking mushroom. Well, they’re not easy to get because they’re oh-so fast. It’s not poisonous, so you can eat it. They are like Japanese matsutake mushrooms.”

I went to catch them at lightning speed.
