Chapter 25: The Lid on the Trash Can

The demonic beasts that had surrounded the place came sprinting in, ready to pounce.

 “Kya─────(Stick)” attack~ with a scream attached to it. I received a half-eyed look from Shiro-kun. No, sis, that’s just sad.

　When I was able to attract enough attention, ───── heave ho, I jumped up, matching the timing with Shiro-kun.

　The magical beasts, having lost their target, passed under us with the same momentum, and interestingly,  shot themselves into the hole.

　───── A scream of agony echoed inside the hole where they were heading.

“Did you see that? Shiro-kun, I was able to do a skill with E difficulty!”

“Don’t play! Drop everything that got left.”

　I got rid of Shiro-kun's lack of praise by knocking down the beasts I had missed.

　The inside of the hole was a hellscape.

　Deranged humans and beasts killing each other. The situation was terrible, with the animals eating each other and the smell of blood.

“…Please, save me.”

　Ah, pink robe is still alive, even though he’s been eaten all over. It's bad luck. ──────Mercy? No? I don't have a generous spirit.

"Aren't you happy to be eaten by your favorite beast? You were all laughing, weren’t you?"

　With a wave of my hand, I slowly and deliberately make a lid on the mouth of the hole.

The pink robe was shouting something, but there was no reason for me to listen.

“Pray to your goddess. Give my regards to the pink head.”

With a snap, the hole was sealed shut as if it had never existed.

"You have to put a lid on the trash can."

　 The noise stopped as soon as the lid was closed.

　Shiro-kun is humming and crunching around where the hole was. Will this lid break? No, I don’t think so- it's probably going to be kept closed for about 100 years or so. Unless there is a tectonic shift or something! 　

“What shall we do with the rest of ‥‥‥‥?”

　What was left behind was the corpse of what would have been people. As expected, if it is left as it is, new beasts will come by and ravage it, which will cause all sorts of problems.

　 Shall we take it ─────? No, no, no, the damage is too severe, and it would cause nothing but trauma to the bereaved family and others.

“Shall we collect it ‥‥‥‥ for now?”

“It’s also in the cave over there.”

　When I looked into the cave, I found a mountain of corpses that appeared to be women and small children.

 “Are you kidding me? They should have been treated worse than they were.”

　While Shiro-kun was looking around, I was busy collecting the remains.

　Although I had recovered the bodies, I was hesitant to return them to their families, even if I had met them. They were all badly damaged.

　When I looked up at the sky, I could see a hill halfway up the mountain in the distance as the darkness faded to white.

　 we climbed about halfway up the mountain.

　The view was good, a bit like a lookout point. Below us we could see a break in the forest, and in the distance, through the haze, we could see what appeared to be a man-made structure.

　──────we finally reached a place where there were signs of human habitation.

“What are we going to do, climb up here?”

“Yeah, is this okay for now?”

　I chose the widest flat area and dug a large hole. Then dropped the recovered corpse there.　

If you put out a normal one, it will explode, so------yeah, that’s right.

“Purification-flame.”

　Red and golden flames soared inside the hole.

　Looking up at the rising flames, I leaned against a slightly flushed Hakuyo.

“This flame isn’t hot, is it?”

“It’s a purifying flame.”

As I looked up at the flames and the sky, night gradually dawned.

　Suddenly, a ball of light passes in front of me.

　Hmmm? When I looked closely, I saw balls of light rising one after another from the purifying flame.

　Wait, wait, wait! No way, is this that!? Isn't it like the soul ball that I became? Ah! Don't go there! Where are you going?

　The ball of light that gushes out from the flame flutters here and there.

“What is this?”

　Hakuyo is also surrounded by several balls of light and wanders around wondering what is going on.

"I-I think it's probably something like a human soul. Huh? is there something like ascending to heaven in this world?"

　What went through my head was ──── pink-head.

Aaah? Does going up to heaven mean going to her or something? I won’t allow that.

　I turned to the rising sun and shouted out loud.

"'I pray to heaven'! Guide these souls to their rightful  place!"

“Okay. I got it!”

　────With the reply, a pillar of light descended.
