Chapter 26: Cat and Dog — Part ③

Somebody help me! Hero, save me!

“Hey now, hold it, hold it. Calm down, both of you.”

Help has arrived! The hero is here!
Velend-san let out a deep sigh.

“You two, stop troubling the kid.”

“Mm… Muu…”

“Woof…”

At Velend-san’s words, the two of them finally calmed down.

“Listen, just suddenly dropping a million on him is a bit too much for the kid.”

“Y-Yes, exactly. I mean, even if you suddenly offer something like that… I’m sorry. I appreciate the thought, but…”

It’s too heavy. A double one-million gift from two girls — that’s way too much for a 13-year-old.

“Muu. I… I apologize as well. I owe you a debt, and in my eagerness to repay it, I acted quite childishly.”

“Woof… me too, I’m sorry. I got all excited thinking I could finally be helpful to you, Wof-sama… I overdid it.”

The two of them lowered their heads in apology.
Ah, thank goodness. For a moment there, I was really worried how this was going to end.

Though it seems like Pakira-san is still bothered by something.

And Juicy-san… why is she so desperate to be helpful to me?
The ring thing has already been settled, so it can’t be that.
I don’t even have any use for it at the moment.

While I was thinking about that, Velend-san stroked his chin.

“…I can’t give you a million, but kid — are you an adventurer?”

“No, I’m not. I’m only 13.”

“Figured. And you too, young lady from House Tasan — you’re not one either, right?”

“Um, no, I’m not.”

“Alright, Pakira. I’ve got a job for you.”

“A job?”

A request? Velend-san gave a knowing smile.

“The condition is that you hire the kid and the young lady as your assistants. The job is to gather magisilver from a Monoceros.”

“Magisilver…?”

“Monoceros, huh. Hmm. I see, I see.”

“Um, um, what exactly does that mean?”

Monoceros… that’s a monster, right? Probably.
And magisilver… what was that again?

“I’ll explain later. Besides, you’re not in a position to talk, Velend.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. So are you taking the job or not?”

“Of course I’ll accept.”

“Good. I’ll send the paperwork to the Guild later. Oh, right — while I go get it, you explain things to them.”

Saying that, Velend-san disappeared into the back.

“Um, um, Pakira-san, what does all this mean?”

“Before that — Juicy, are you sure about this? Being a marquis’ daughter, working as someone’s assistant… are you okay with that?”

“Um, well… I’ll have to talk it over with Dova-neesama first… it might be difficult.”

Juicy’s ears and tail drooped as she answered.

“Juicy-san…”

I wonder if Shesh-san would be okay with this too.

“Hmm. In that case, you should settle that first. We’ll talk more after.”

“Um, um, I… Is it really okay for me to do this…?”

Juicy seemed to be feeling guilty about how she’d acted toward Pakira earlier.

Pakira gave her a soft smile.

“Good or bad doesn’t matter. You’re already my assistant.”

“Woof! Y-Yes! I’ll do my best, please take care of me!”

Looks like they made up. Good, good.

While we were talking, Velend-san returned, carrying something long wrapped in cloth.

“Sorry for the wait.”

He placed it on the counter and unwrapped it. Inside was a short metallic staff.

The grip was silver, and the rest was gold. The tip was shaped like a cup.

It even had little claws, like it was meant to hold a gemstone.

That’s when I realized — this wasn’t a torch at all, it was a staff.

And there were also a saber and a longsword. Ah — these were Shesh-san’s weapons.

Pakira picked up the short staff.

“Mm. Perfectly restored.”

Juicy picked up the saber and longsword.

“Um, um, thank you so much! Shesh-chan will be really happy!”

“Man, I keep telling people — my place isn’t some museum for ancient relics, you know. Pakira, don’t forget the job.”

“I know. We’re very grateful.”

“Thanks a lot, Velend-san.”

I gave him my thanks, and he smiled shyly.

“See you around, kid.”

“Yeah, see you!”

Someday, when I’ve saved up another million, I’ll definitely come back.

And so, we headed for the secondary estate where the Tasan marquis family was staying in the central noble district.

Dova-san came out to meet us right away, looking surprised to see me.

Pakira explained the situation, and once Dova confirmed Juicy’s intentions, she gave her permission.

“Ah, yeah, that’s fine. Pakira-san, I’ll leave my sister in your care.”

“Of course. I swear on my name.”

“Wof-san.”

“Y-Yes?”

“Please take care of my sister too.”

“I will. I’ll do my best.”

“Woof. Um, um, Wof-sama, Pakira-san, thank you for this!”

“…Wof-sama?”

“Uh, well, that’s…”

“Ah, I see. Well, it’s fine. Juicy, take care, okay?”

“Um, um, Dova-neesama, thank you for granting me permission! I swear on the name of House Tasan, I’ll complete this mission!”

“Yes, as long as you return safely, that’s all that matters. I’ll explain it to Shesh later. So, Pakira-san, when does the job start?”

“Hopefully as early as tomorrow.”

“Got it. Where’s the meeting place?”

“In front of the Adventurer’s Guild. Tomorrow morning. Understood, both of you?”

“Y-Yes!”

“Woof! Um, yes, understood. Tomorrow morning!”

Tomorrow morning, in front of the Adventurer’s Guild.

Once the arrangements were made, the three of us left the room to head home — but I got dragged into a guest room by the two of them.

What the heck? The moment we stepped inside, Pakira crossed her arms and looked at me.

“Say, Wof. You’ve been hiding something, haven’t you?”

“Um, um, I don’t know why, but… woof… you smell like another creature.”

Ah — so they noticed.

I pulled out the dagger knife and placed it on the table.
The two of them watched, puzzled.

“Na?”

“It’s okay, Daga. You can change back now.”

“Na!”

The knife spun around and transformed back into Daga.

The two of them were astonished.

“W-What!? Is this… a living creature!?”

“Uh, um, I-I’m surprised! Woof! But it’s so cute!”

“Na!”

“His name is Daga.”

“Hmm, Daga, huh… Is it a monster?”

“Na!”

Daga leaped into Juicy’s chest without hesitation.

“Eh!? Woof woof! It’s so fluffy! And soft too!?”

Looking both nervous and surprised, Juicy gently held Daga and stroked him.

“…”

Come to think of it, Daga didn’t hesitate at all to dive right into Juicy’s chest.

Now that I think about it, he did the same with Mineha-san when she got bigger too.

Could it be… this little guy has a thing for girls with big chests? I’m not even sure what gender it is.

“It can turn into a knife? How mysterious.”

Pakira, seemingly unaware, tilted her head. Or maybe it’s not really about chest size… though honestly, I have no way to be sure, and maybe it’s better that way.

“Being able to turn into a knife means it’s a relic. It’s called [Weaponization].”

“Ohh, [Weaponization], huh. I’ve heard of that before.”

“Uh, um, Wof-sama, where did this little one come from?”

“Yeah, I’m curious too. Can you explain?”

“Sure. Actually—”

I explained the whole story about the trash heap where I first found Daga. Juicy’s eyes widened.

“Uh, um, woof! That lump from back then was… this little one!?”

“Well, if it’s not in the trash anymore, I guess it’s not trash. What a troublesome creature. Still, what a strange story.”

“Na?”

Daga looked at Pakira and tilted his head again.

Seriously, what are you, exactly?

Pakira reached out and gently stroked Daga while Juicy held him.

“Na!”

“Hmm, so fluffy.”

“Na?”

“W-Woof? Daga-chan?”

Suddenly, Daga left Juicy’s arms and leaped into Pakira’s chest.

“Wha—hey, hey, now! You little…!”

Pakira hurriedly caught Daga in her arms.

Phew. I guess the whole chest-size thing was just me overthinking.

“Na?”

Just then, Daga lowered his gaze and hopped down from Pakira.

“Huh?”

“Na?”

“Mya! Hey, that’s my tail!”

“Na!”

It seemed like Daga had become curious about the white tails — both short and long — poking out from the slit in Pakira’s robe. Using his little claws, he touched the swaying tails and poked at them again.

Is this guy a cat or something?

“Hey, cut that out, it tickles! Stop it!”

“Na!”

“Woof! Uh, um, the tail is moving — I can’t help but stare!”

“Juicy-san, you can’t.”

“Woof.”

“You too, Daga! Stop that! Myaaaaan!!”

Pakira suddenly let out a high-pitched yelp. I looked over, wondering what had happened — and there was Daga.

He wasn’t grabbing her tail anymore. He had jumped right onto her butt.

What the heck…!?

“Na!”

What the heck is this little guy doing? Juicy was flustered and panicking.

“Uh, um, um! He’s on your butt…! What should we do!? What do I do!?”

“Mya! Get him off, Juicy! You do it!”

“Uh, um, okay, woof! Daga-chan, no, you can’t do that!”

“Na!?”

“Myaaa! D-Don’t squeeze my tail like that!!”

As Juicy tried to pull Daga away, he accidentally grabbed onto Pakira’s shorter tail and held on tightly.

Ahh, it’s complete chaos.

And yet, I was oddly calm, thinking:

Daga jumped onto Pakira’s butt… maybe because it was big. Bigger than Juicy’s chest, even.

Which means — even through the robe, it was clear Pakira’s butt was… quite large.

Yes, there’s no doubt. That must be it.

Pakira’s butt is bigger than a peach. Yeah, that explains everything. Problem solved.

Now then… what should I do?

“Myaa! Get off me already! Myaa!”

“Uh, um, I’m sorry, Daga-chan! Woof woof! But that wagging tail is just too tempting!”

“Myaa!! You too!? Stop grabbing me!! Myaaaa!!”

“Na! Na? Na!”

“Mya! Woof! Do something! Woof! Myaaaa!!”

There’s only one thing I can say for sure:

I am powerless.
