Chapter 1- Summoning Techniques

Two weeks have passed since the gym festival, and the season has turned into summer.

The sizzling sun burns my skin and the hot, humid air caresses my cheeks.

As I groaned at the heat, I seriously wondered if I should make a magic circle to control my body temperature.

At any rate, I was playing with reflective magic against the sunlight streaming in through the window, when Dr. Bianca appeared at the chime.

She stands on the podium, wearing a pointy hat and navy blue robe even in this hot weather.

“Please take your seats. I will begin the first period of class. First, please open your textbooks to page 29."

Leaving us to fend for ourselves in the heat, Bianca-sensei quickly picked up a piece of chalk.

Pushing ahead with the class without question, she twisted around and scribbled on the blackboard.

I took a glance at her brown hair, which was curled up at the ends and turned up the page of my textbook.

Hmm ... it's too hot to get motivated.. Summer at Flugel Academy is such a pain. Until last year, I went to a summer resort every summer, so I never thought it would be this hot.

In addition, this classroom is unnecessarily densely populated, which makes it feel even hotter....

With my sideburns hanging over my ears, I wondered if I should get my hair done tomorrow. I'm really worried.

As I began to secretly plan my countermeasures against the heat, Bianca-sensei looked back at me quickly.

“Today, you'll be practicing ──── summoning techniques.”

My classmates reacted to the word "summoning" and looked up.

Their expressions were cheerful as they looked at Bianca-sensei with expectant eyes.

In the Draconian Empire, with a few exceptions, minors are prohibited from using summoning techniques.

This is because there have been many accidents and troubles. Forgetting to write the magic words for the safety device and being hurt by the summon, being misled by the summon's words and causing problems, etc...... Anyway, because there were so many troubles, an age limit was set for the use of summoning.

However, the only exception was the magic class held at Flugel Academy. The reason for this is that many of the best mages in the Draconian Empire are enrolled there. If excellent mages are watching over the school, it is unlikely that anything untoward will happen and even if a problem does occur, it can be dealt with. That's why we were given special permission.

I've learned a lot about summoning before, but this is my first time actually doing it. So I'm looking forward to it.

As you know, summoning is the magic of summoning spirits and holy beasts. There are two main types of summoning techniques that are performed using a special magic circle. They are: individual summons that summon specific objects and normal summons that summon random objects. The success rate for both is not very high and most of the time the summons are not answered....."

Bianca-sensei said she has only had a few successful summons herself and the class dropped their shoulders.

If even the teachers of the Flugel Academy have succeeded a few times, they are worried that they might not be able to succeed.

It's true that the success rate of summoning is higher for those who are stronger, but it's hard to say because of compatibility issues. There were many people who succeeded in summoning even though they had very little magic power.

The point is whether you have enough charm to arouse their interest.

If you're not in a position to do so, you can’t  make a master-servant contract. You can make a temporary contract at the time of summoning, so you can borrow the power of the other party, but they can cancel the contract summoning at will. In short, the other party will leave on their own.

Bianca-sensei cowered, asserting that the initiative was not ours just because they had agreed to the summons.

It seems that she has experienced being forcibly released from a summons.

“The next question is about the master-servant contract, which is completed when the sorcerer names the summoned. However, please note that naming is meaningless without the agreement of both parties. There are two main advantages to signing a master-servant contract. You can summon the contractor by simply calling his or her name. Also, unlike a temporary contract, it cannot be cancelled without the consent of both parties, so there is no need to worry about the relationship being unilaterally cut off.”

Bianca-sensei, who held up her index and middle fingers, added, "Well, there are very few people who can make it to the master-slave contract”.

To the students, who didn't even know if they could summon it before the contract, it was a miracle if you can even get to the contract part.

Well, from the summoned's point of view, the master-slave contract is no different from a binding. Even if you are having a lot of fun playing, if the contractor calls you, you have to respond ... I absolutely hate that. It’s absolutely impossible to serve the other party without asking for anything in return.

If you love someone so much that you're willing to give your life for them, that's a different story. ...... But that kind of person doesn't come along very often.

As I think about the master-servant contract from the perspective of the summoned, I thought within myself that it was a pretty dark contract.

Although I was interested in summoning, I was not very interested in the master-servant contract, so I only thought that I would be lucky if I could summon one.

This is because there is no need to make a contract with a spirit or a holy beast. I was not that attached to the master-slave contract.

"That's all I have to say about summoning. Do any of you have any questions?"

After placing the chalk on the table, Bianca-sensei looked around the room.

As for my knowledge of summoning techniques, I know a certain amount beforehand, so I shake my head fully.

The other students also had no particular questions, and said no in unison.

“So, let's move on to the practice. This time, we’ll be using a normal summoning magic circle. Please check the magic circle carefully. There have been a few times in the past when they forgot to write down a magic character and it exploded. Please be very careful."

We nodded our heads in agreement with Bianca-sensei, who reminded us with a sour tone of voice.

I've heard of the trouble that can occur when someone forgets to write magic letters, so I accepted her advice with open arms.

However, we were all itching to do the summoning technique as soon as possible.

There was even a student who already had a thread of magic power coming out of her fingertips. Bianca-sensei smiled at the students who were hurrying her along with their eyes.

“You can start summoning as soon as you finish building and checking the magic circle. Then please start ────."
