Chapter 15: Quiz Results

──── After that, I finished solving all the problems while laughing at Silas sensei who only asked questions about minor medicinal herbs, "He's a devil."

 In a classroom filled with the sound of a ticking second hand, most of the students hold their heads in their hands and say, "I don't know..." Even Emilia, the number one ranked student in the entrance exam, seemed to be in a state of helplessness.

"────Yes, the test is over. Get out another ink pen so I can check your answers."

Unlike the students who looked down with a gloomy expression, Silas sensei picked up the red chalk with a smiling face.

"Oh, you did realize they were hard problems!" I said to myself as my classmates were buzzing. They were asking, "Who got a perfect score?" and some mentioned Emilia sama's name. While all eyes were on the girl with the ponytail, ──── Silas sensei turned to me.

" You there, the only one who got the perfect score on the quiz, ──── Let's hear your name."

My classmates were stunned by the beautiful turquoise-haired man who was obviously looking in a direction that Emilia sama wasn’t in. 

 Everyone's eyes peeled to see if that woman had gotten a high grade. I let out a small breath and stood up slowly, drawing the attention of the entire classroom.

 I took a glance at the emerald eyes staring at me with amusement, then put my hands on my chest and bowed my head.

"I'm Charlotte Luna Meyers."

"Hmmm? Charlotte, huh? I'll keep that in mind."

Silas sensei nodded in a good mood, pushed up his glasses with his middle finger, and smiled. He then picked up the potted plant on the table.

"By the way, do you know what this plant is?"

Silas sensei then tilted the plant forward a little so that I could see inside it.

 Inside the pot, there was a green bud with two leaves on it. At a quick glance, it looked like an ordinary plant, but a slightly funny pattern was formed on the stem. From here, I could only see it vaguely, but I recognized the distinctive pattern. Perhaps the teacher asked this question to test me, but ...... it's insane to carry around this plant. "Mmm-hmm! You're right! It's amazing that you can tell that this is a flame spirit plant! Can you please explain it to the kids who don't know what it is?"

Silas sensei, who returned the potted plant to the table, applauds and asks. I slowly opened my mouth, a little taken aback by his high spirits.

"As I said before, the flame spirit plant is a subspecies of the spirit plant and there are not many of them. I've never seen one before, but I was able to distinguish it by the distinctive pattern on the stem. The way to grow it is basically the same as any other plant, but like all spirit plants, it needs mana to grow, so you need to pour magic power into it regularly. And if you ingest even a small amount of flame spirit grass, ──── your body will spontaneously combust and you will die."

The classmates' eyes widened at the effect, which was completely different from the spirit plants that are said to make you immortal or give you the power of spirits. 

They must have thought it was a good medicine because they heard it was a subspecies of the spirit plant. That's what I thought, too, until I learned more about it… it’s no surprise that they’re shocked.

"Yes, that's right. The flame spirit plant is incredibly poisonous and odorless. It's the perfect plant for poisoning." says Silas sensei with a sparkling smile, patting the edge of the potted plant.

"I can't wait to study it," he muttered, ignoring the stares of the students who to themselves thought "No, what the hell are you growing?"

Even if it was poisonous, as long as it was a plant, it would be an object of interest to him. 

I wonder, is he doing research on potions…? Even though depending on how it is used poison, poison can be medicine, but is it safe to bring a highly poisonous flame spirit plant into a school...? I don't think so, because if a student were to accidentally eat a flame spirit plant…it won't be a laughing matter. 

While I was dismayed at Silas sensei for not thinking, he looked me in the eye and smiled.

"Thank you for your clear explanation ─── Charlotte san ・・・・・・. You may take your seat now."

I nodded and took my seat. As I put away my textbook, I suddenly realized that the conversation I had just had was strange…no, it was kind of normal. Huh? Come to think of it──── didn't he just call my name correctly, which is unusual for Silas sensei? And without mispronouncing a single letter… 

Normally, I'd be like, "Did you do that on purpose?" But…Maybe it was because I knew a lot about herbology…? Did he think of me as a fellow researcher…? Wait, on what standards?! Why was he so mysterious?! I was surprised by the fact that Silas sensei had acknowledged me, and I forgot about the flame spirit plant and pondered over it.
