Chapter 369: The Fate of the Suicide Squad

“Move in! Secure the Sorcerer immediately!”

Led by Valeya, the elite troops of the Iwood Kingdom stormed into the magically constructed fortress.

The castle, built crudely from sand and earth, was surprisingly intricate inside despite its rough exterior.

A vast, hall-like chamber spread before them, lined with numerous stone statues that seemed to be “welcoming” them.

Each statue stood about two meters tall, shaped like a warrior clad in armor, gripping a greatsword with both hands.

“There’s no one here… wait, what—!?”

“OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!”

A deep growl rumbled from all directions.

The stone statues positioned throughout the hall began to move—emitting heavy, resonant sounds from who knows where—as they raised their greatswords and advanced toward Valeya’s unit.

“Magic puppets… golems!”

Valeya tightened his grip on his spear.

Golems—magically created, self-moving constructs.

Some were made for simple labor, others designed for combat.

The ones here were clearly built for battle: large, weapon-wielding, and emanating menace.

“Engage! Take them down!”

“““““Yes, sir!!”””””

At Valeya’s command, the soldiers charged forward, weapons at the ready—swords, spears, and staves gleaming in the dim hall.

“Guh…!”

“Careful! These things are strong!”

While clashing with the golems’ massive blades, the soldiers shouted warnings to one another.

Each one of these troops was an elite, capable of defeating ten ordinary soldiers on their own—
and yet, even for them, these golems were formidable foes.

Every swing of a golem’s greatsword carried immense force and uncanny speed, unthinkable for something made of stone.

“Don’t let your guard down! These aren’t ordinary golems!”

While shouting encouragement, Valeya thrust his spear straight into a golem’s chest.

“Grrhh!”

But the golem immediately raised its sword to counterattack.

It had been stabbed clean through the torso, yet—being an artificial construct—it didn’t suffer mortal damage and moved to retaliate.

“[Explosion]!”

Valeya instantly detonated the spearhead.

The blast tore the golem apart from within, scattering its fragments across the floor.

“This rabble’s not worth wasting time on.”

Moments later, another golem was sliced cleanly into pieces. Its remains clattered onto the ground.

“Almacaine Sword Dance—‘Falling Petals.’”

The one who disassembled the golem in a single breath was none other than the woman-hating sword saint, Wilhelm Lubase.

He muttered in his usual calm tone, peering at the enemy through the long bangs that obscured his face.

“If I waste any more time, that man will get ahead of me again. I won’t keep eating his dust.”

“OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“‘Fragmented Verse.’”

A golem swung at Wilhelm from behind, but his blade flashed once.

A single horizontal stroke carved through the air—
and the golem, along with its sword, was cleaved perfectly in two.

“Magnificent…!”

“We can’t be outdone! Attack!”

Spurred on by Valeya and Wilhelm, the soldiers rallied with renewed vigor.

The tide of battle shifted—the golems that had been pressing them back were now being destroyed one after another.

“Under a mighty general, there are no weak soldiers.”

Led by overwhelming strength, the troops unleashed their full potential, striking with unity and precision.

Soon, the last golem fell.

“Good! That’s the last of them! Now, find the Sorcerer—wait, what!?”

Just as Valeya gave the order, everyone froze in place.

“OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!”

“The golems… they’re regenerating!?”

Indeed—destroyed golems began repairing themselves.

Their shattered bodies reattached, as though pulled together by invisible threads.

Even the sections that had been cleaved apart or crushed reformed, faint cracks tracing the lines of their wounds as they once again raised their swords.

“Are they being restored by an external spell!? Or did the creator build in an automatic regeneration system!?”

Gritting his teeth, Valeya parried a downward slash.

A castle created from sand—hard as steel, self-repairing even after destruction.
And on top of that, nearly twenty powerful golems, each also capable of regeneration.

What level of magical skill could possibly make this all real?

“It seems… this enemy is far stronger than we imagined!”

The battle turned once again.

The soldiers who had just gained the upper hand were now being pushed back; while no one had died yet, several were injured.

“This isn’t good… at this rate—!”

“Kill them aaaaaaaalllll!!”

“What—!?”

Just then, unexpected reinforcements arrived.

From another direction, warriors swung clubs down upon the golems, smashing them apart.

“The Oni Tribe…!?”

It was the Oni warriors—those who had been attacking the fortress from another side.

The very group Valeya had used as a diversion had now come crashing in from behind the golems, striking their rear lines.
