Chapter 275: It’s a Date (Yuri Arc) ④

Rest looked at the two monsters that had appeared and slowly shook his head.

“Good grief… I really thought I’d get to relax today…”

He let out a deep, deep sigh.

It was supposed to be a peaceful picnic, but once again, it had turned into a battle.

Climbing the hill toward them were a snake large enough to swallow a human whole and a fur-covered quadruped the size of an elephant.

Both were large-class monsters. If a rookie adventurer or soldier encountered them, they’d be killed without a chance to fight back.

“Alright! Rest, I’ll leave one to you!”

“Ah, Yuri!”

“I’ll take the snake! The furry one’s yours!”

Apparently believing that attacking first meant victory, Yuri dashed down the hill and launched herself at the giant snake.

“GISHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”

“Yah!”

“Gii!”

Yuri’s sharp whip struck the snake’s head, sending it flying.

As the serpent flinched, she grabbed its log-thick body and threw it.

“TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”

“She’s absolutely reckless, isn’t she…”

Glancing sideways at Yuri, who was handling the giant snake with ease, Rest turned to face his own opponent.

The massive quadruped was charging at him.

“Wind Blade.”

Rest cast a spell.

A blade of sharp wind shot toward the monster—but it dodged by leaping to the side.

“Hmph…”

“GUOH!”

The beast zigzagged as it approached, making itself a difficult target.

It seemed to know how to fight a mage.

“Does this thing… know how to deal with mages?”

Perhaps it had fought mages during the monster hunts on the Sabnock Plains and learned how to counter magic.

“I see… this one’s tricky.”

“GUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!”

“But that’s only good enough to beat second-rate mages.”

Dodging spells through constant movement—it’s a fundamental anti-mage tactic.

That’s why competent mages also prepare countermeasures against fast-moving enemies.

“Wind Orbs.”

He started with a simple counter.

Rest conjured a barrage of wind spheres around himself and sent them hurtling toward the beast.

“GUOH!?”

There were too many to dodge.

Even as low-level spells, dozens of hits still inflicted damage.

“Next—Earth Bind!”

To the staggered quadruped, Rest unleashed another spell.

Earthen tendrils burst from the ground, wrapping tightly around the beast’s limbs.

“GUOH! GUOH!”

The monster thrashed wildly, but the earthen bindings held firm.

At this point, it was no different than a fish on a chopping block.

“This’ll finish it… Lightning Cannon!”

“GUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH…!?”

A bolt of lightning blasted through the restrained beast.

The violent current made its entire body convulse… and then, it stopped moving.

Smoke curled up from its charred body. Rest looked down at it and nodded.

“Alright, now for Yuri—”

“Hey, Rest! I won!”

“Huh?”

Turning toward the voice, he saw Yuri standing at the base of the hill with her foot planted on the snake’s head.

The massive serpent lay sprawled across the ground, its head smashed to bits, black-red blood oozing out.

“I win too! Looks like we’ve got dinner!”

“Please, spare me… huh?”

Relieved for a moment, Rest’s [Presence Detection] suddenly triggered.

A large presence was pushing through the bushes, heading straight for the triumphant Yuri.

“Yuri! Behind you!”

“Hm?”

As Yuri turned around—something leapt out from the bushes.

“GISHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”

“Ah.”

A giant snake, identical to the one she had just defeated, lunged with its jaws wide open.

Caught off guard, Yuri’s eyes went wide in shock—before she disappeared into the serpent’s mouth.
