Chapter 270: It’s a Date (Primula’s Chapter)④

“[Flame Cannon — Firebolt]!”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Rest unleashed an attack spell.

A roaring blast of crimson flames shot out, engulfing the monster’s face.

“GYAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”

“…It didn’t work!?”

The monster reeled back, seemingly in pain, but the damage was shallow.

Without wasting another second, Rest pulled Primula close and leapt back from the spot.

“GYAO!”

The monster swung down one of its massive, webbed arms.

It smashed the ground where the two had just been standing, leaving a deep, hand-shaped crater in the earth.

“Tch…!”

“W-What is that thing!? What is that monster!?”

“Calm down, Primula!”

Holding the panicking Primula tightly, Rest flew up into the air.

Using magic to levitate, he glanced around — and the sight was bizarre.

The area was unnaturally empty, with only the vast, murky swamp stretching below them. Beyond it, dense, pitch-black darkness oozed out like mud, swallowing everything.

“It’s night… but there’s no moon, no stars. Still, I can see clearly. Yet there’s nothing here — no land, no trees — only the swamp and that monster…”

The whole situation was wrong, deeply wrong.

At first, he’d thought they’d been teleported somewhere, but even for that, something didn’t feel right.

“Could this be…?”

“GYAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

“Whoa!”

The monster lunged at them, stretching its long neck upward, jaws wide open.

Rest quickly dodged, soaring higher — but just as he did, darkness swallowed the world around him.

“Ugh…!?”

And the next instant, both Rest and Primula found themselves bursting up from the swamp’s surface.

They’d been flying skyward, yet somehow they’d ended up submerged in the swamp without even realizing it.

“This can’t be happening!”

“GYAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

“Agh!!”

The monster wasted no time, launching another attack.

Its massive arm came sweeping in from the side, but Rest managed to conjure a barrier of wind in the nick of time, blocking the crushing force.

“Urgh…! Primula, are you okay!?”

Primula, still trembling in his arms, hugged herself tightly.

There were no visible injuries, but her eyes were unfocused — lost to the moment, as if she couldn’t even process what was happening — and her lips kept muttering incoherently.

“Primula… Dammit, our fun date is completely ruined!”

Seriously… how had it come to this?

Grinding his teeth in frustration, Rest glared at the monster.

The monster, apparently delighted that it had scored a hit, clapped its grotesque hands together and let out shrill, almost playful cries.

“GYA! GYA!”

“Don’t get cocky… I’m not letting you off for this!”

Fueled by the anger of having their perfect day wrecked, Rest unleashed another spell.

The monster lunged in to strike once more — but this time, its raised arm suddenly vanished.

“GYAO!?”

“[Star Eater].”

A pitch-black sphere had materialized in front of Rest.

It was the “Dark Star” — a magical sphere that devoured everything it touched, erasing it from existence.

“GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

“Alright… this is working!”

Feeling the spell’s effect take hold, Rest didn’t let up — pressing the attack.

“[Flame Cannon — Firebolt]! [Lightning Cannon — Lightningbolt]! [Frost Cannon — Icebolt]! [Wind Cannon — Windbolt]! [Earth Cannon — Earthbolt]!”

“GYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU—!!”

Flame, lightning, ice, wind, and earth — one spell after another struck the creature, ripping away at its monstrous body.

Determined to finish the fight before it could retaliate, Rest continued his barrage, hammering it with everything he had.

But just as victory seemed close, the creature’s many compound eyes swiveled toward him, glaring.

“SYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

“What…!?”

The monster let out a piercing scream.

And as it howled — the wounds carved deep into its body began to heal.

Slowly but surely, the damage inflicted by the spells vanished.

Even the arm that had been erased by the Star Eater regenerated, piece by piece.

Rest stared in shock, realizing the horrifying truth — this thing could recover, even from that.
