Chapter 41: Remi’s Feelings

“Alright, we’ve moved everyone for now.”

After transporting the injured elves to the Adventurers’ Guild, we performed basic treatments. Fortunately, no one had life-threatening injuries, and we were able to treat them with the potions the elves had and those available at the guild.

After finishing the treatments, we gathered in a room separate from the one where the elves were resting. Next to me was Lilina, and across from us sat Remi, Alisha, and an elven woman who was concerned about Alisha.

Although I wanted Alisha and her companions to rest in another room, they insisted on being present, which led to this arrangement. I took a deep breath and looked intently at Remi.

“So, could you explain the situation in more detail?”

Noticing that my tone wasn’t as gentle as I intended, I couldn’t change it. A part of me felt uneasy because Remi had been the arbiter for Kane’s duel.

Of course, I knew Remi wasn’t at fault. Still, it was hard not to feel a bit conflicted.

“Yes, but first, please allow me to thank you.”

“Thank me?”

Puzzled, I tilted my head as Remi bowed deeply.

“Thank you for stopping that duel.”

“Huh? What do you mean by ‘thank you’?”

While I was confused by her deep bow, Remi raised her head and sighed with relief.

“If you hadn’t intervened, the townspeople would have witnessed an even more tragic scene.”

“But in that case, you shouldn’t have allowed the duel in the first place—”

I stopped mid-sentence. Remi gave a sad smile and shook her head.

“The Adventurers’ Guild can’t intervene in duels between adventurers.”

“Right, of course. I’m sorry.”

“No, Lloyd, you don’t need to apologize.”

Any normal person would have wanted to stop that situation upon seeing it. But Remi, as a member of the Adventurers’ Guild, couldn’t take sides or arbitrarily interrupt an accepted duel.

She couldn’t look away, either, even though she must have wanted to, because she was the arbiter. Watching the elves being beaten by Kane must have been quite a shock.

Realizing this, I bowed deeply.

“I’m sorry for saying something inconsiderate without thinking about your feelings. Truly, I’m sorry.”

“No, really, it’s fine. Please, raise your head.”

As I bowed deeply, Remi hurriedly asked me to lift my head.

Then, she let out a small chuckle.

“Really, you’ve changed so much.”

“Yes, I never imagined Kane would go that far.”

“Indeed. Kane has changed as well.”

Remi looked slightly puzzled for a moment before smiling again.

Huh? Why is she laughing?

As I pondered this, Remi cleared her throat softly and straightened her posture.

“Alright, let me explain the situation in detail.”

Remi glanced at Alisha sitting next to her before looking back at me.

“Um, are you aware that Kane and the other members of ‘Dragon King’s Flame’ have started dealing in slave trading?”

“Slave trading?!”

I was stunned by her unexpected words.

Slave trading? But Kane is supposed to be the protagonist of this anime!

“How despicable can those awful people get…?”

Next to me, Lilina sighed and muttered those words, reflecting my own shock and disbelief.
