Chapter 48: The Bandit-Subjugation Quest Is Complete
After confirming the hostages’ safety and binding and confining the captured bandits, the units that had seized the fort immediately headed for the village to support the raiding party.
Roy led the charge.
Tauro followed and provided covering fire, but he quickly ran out of arrows.
What proved unexpectedly useful then was a hail of stones created with earth spirit magic.
The spell allowed him to launch fist-sized stones at his enemies.

The bandit leader spat the words while glaring at Roy.
Unable to overwhelm Mina despite his numerical advantage, he had missed his chance to escape.
“Surrender. You won’t escape the noose, but you can at least spare yourself further pain.”
Roy warned him.
“Hmph. I have confidence in my sword. I once made something of a name for myself as an adventurer.”
The instant he finished speaking, he slashed at Mina.
At that moment, a dark haze covered his vision.
“What!?”
Before he could recover, Mina drove a powerful kick into his stomach. He flew backward and lost consciousness at Roy’s feet.
“Nice support, Tauro.”
Mina looked past Roy.
When Roy turned, he found Tauro Satou—the boy whose darkness spirit magic had blinded the bandit leader—making a victory sign.
Because the village-raiding unit had faced so many enemies, it had suffered numerous injuries.
Tauro and the healers who carried potions therefore worked together to treat everyone.
The others bound the remaining bandits, removed the stolen goods, and checked the hostages.
“Shouldn’t we pursue the ones who escaped?”
One adventurer asked Roy and the other commanders.
“We can leave that much to the territorial and royal soldiers. We’re adventurers, and the job we accepted was the subjugation quest.”
Every commander nodded in agreement with Roy.
Of the eighty-seven bandits in the village, thirty-five, including the leader, were captured.
After accounting for the dead, thirteen appeared to have escaped.
As far as Tauro could determine, his father was among them.
But Soak wouldn’t remain free for long. Wanted notices identifying him as one of the gang’s remnants would circulate through several territories.
His capture was only a matter of time.
Many adventurers who distinguished themselves during the quest received rank promotions.
Mina advanced from C- to C.
Roy and Blue Guardian rose from C to C+.
Five Arrows, whose female mage had played a leading role, also advanced from C- to C.
Kuzoth, who had joined Tauro on the search assignment, performed well during the subsequent reconnaissance and earned a promotion too.
Tauro advanced from E- to E.
His recent solo goblin subjugation, completion of the bandit search, and performance in the final operation had been evaluated highly, so no one objected.

Standing before the guild’s reception desk, Tauro received everyone’s congratulations.
