Chapter 361: A Clash Between Dragonfolk
Viscount Bomen’s mansion was far larger than Tauro had imagined.
Repeated extensions had turned the estate into a maze of connected structures. Anyone entering it for the first time would almost certainly become lost.
The attacking dragonfolk didn’t care.
They detected enemies through their sensing abilities and moved straight toward them—even when doing so required breaking through walls.
Any one of the warriors could probably have demolished the entire estate. However, the mansion was also likely to contain evidence of the Assassins’ Guild’s activities, so they restrained their power and eliminated enemies room by room.
Watching from the woods behind the estate, Tauro remembered a film from his previous life in which a killing machine from the future stormed a police station.
Now fifteen such killing machines were attacking the same mansion.
Screams, battle cries, and threats echoed continuously from inside. A hellish scene was clearly unfolding.
“We’re on the side of justice here… more or less, correct?” Ankh asked.
“The difference in strength makes it look questionable, but yes,” Tauro replied with a wry smile. “I’m very glad they’re our allies.”
“Hmm. I can sense several individuals with considerable magical power,” Malak said while searching the estate.
At that moment, an explosion tore through the upper floor and blew away part of the roof.
A huge dragon wreathed in flames burst from the opening, scorching the surrounding structure.
A short time earlier…
“Weaklings calling themselves the Four Heavenly Kings have appeared one after another,” the [Great Hero] commander muttered as he advanced through the third floor. “Have they already run out of capable fighters?”
He had defeated every opponent in his path when a powerfully built man stepped before him.
“Your appraisal is obstructed… Then you must be one of the southern dragonfolk,” the man said.
“And you carry the blood of the northern dragonfolk,” the commander replied.
“Heh heh. Correct. The elders frightened us with legends about the southern dragonfolk when we were children. Yet you don’t look especially formidable. I knew ancient stories weren’t worth taking seriously.”
“I don’t know what tales you were taught, but your human blood appears stronger than your dragonfolk blood. Surrender or take your own life. I can’t allow you to escape.”
“You call me half-human? I understand—an attempt to anger me and improve your chances.”
The northern warrior smiled arrogantly.
“I’m a mixed-blood who has surpassed the limits of ordinary dragonfolk. Such a childish provocation won’t affect me.”
“If you can’t perceive the difference between our strength, you’ve already lost.”
The commander’s warning remained calm.
“A difference in strength? Ha ha ha! Your appraisal may be excellent, but I possess a special skill that transcends the limits of dragonfolk. Once I use it, defeat becomes impossible.”
“Do you mean [Ancestral Reversion]?”
“You recognized it? Your appraisal truly is impressive. But knowledge changes nothing. No one can stop me after I transform!”
The northern warrior spread his arms.
“Tremble before the power of a true dragon! [Ancestral Reversion]!”
His body expanded explosively, shredding his clothes. In moments, he transformed into a gigantic dragon.
The transformation destroyed part of the mansion, and the dragon burst through the shattered roof.
“A dragon?!” Tauro and Ankh exclaimed from the woods.
“The enemy dragonfolk descendant appears to have transformed,” Malak said calmly.
“Dragonfolk can do that?”
“Very rarely, someone is born with a skill called [Ancestral Reversion],” Malak explained. “No such person has appeared in our villages in recent generations.”
“That sounds like an extraordinary skill. Are the warriors inside safe?”
Tauro stared at the ominous creature, worried for the assault team.
“There’s no need for concern, Lord Tauro,” Reeva said. “Consider the dogfolk. Their distant ancestors are said to have been dogs, correct?”
“Yes…?”
The sudden comparison left Tauro confused.
“Suppose a dogfolk warrior used ancestral reversion and became an ordinary dog. Would that make the warrior stronger?”
Reeva smiled.
“The enemy is treating a return to the form of a giant lizard as his ultimate weapon. A true dragonfolk hero won’t lose to him.”
“You reduce dragons to lizards?” Tauro said with a strained laugh. “Still, I understand your point.”
At that instant, a brilliant line of light crossed the night.
The dragon was cut cleanly in two.
“That was the commander’s [Sword Flash],” Zumei said cheerfully. “As expected of a dungeon-conquest veteran. He didn’t hold back even against small fry.”
The two halves of the dragon crashed down, destroying another section of the mansion.
“That isn’t the proper interpretation, Zumei,” Malak corrected him. “The enemy was still a descendant of dragonfolk. The commander used his finest technique as a sign of respect.”
Either way, Tauro’s concern had been unnecessary.
The operation to annihilate the Assassins’ Guild was nearing its conclusion.
