Chapter 329: Reaching the Lowest Floor

Tauro and his companions arrived by [Spatial Transfer] in the rest room on the dungeon’s lowest floor.

They had finally reached the 265th floor, the destination the dragonfolk had pursued for centuries.

Led by the support-team members, Tauro’s group left the rest room and descended the nearby stairs.

Three conquest teams and their respective support teams awaited them below, wearing expressions filled with emotion.

At the center of the chamber, a massive Dungeon Core – the very life of the dungeon – rested upon a broad pedestal.

The core of the Dungeon of Beginnings was many times larger than the newborn Dungeon Core Tauro had once found near Dansas. Its imposing appearance seemed fitting for a dungeon of such age and scale.

Tauro was led toward the pedestal.

“Without you, Tauro-dono, none of us can say how many more centuries it would have taken to reach this chamber. Your assistance made an immeasurable contribution to our people’s dearest dream. On behalf of the dragonfolk, I, as leader of the conquest teams, offer you our deepest gratitude.”

The [Great Hero] leading the conquest teams bowed deeply, and the other heroes followed.

“No. This achievement belongs to every dragonfolk who fought for it,” Tauro replied. “I only provided a little assistance. I’m proud that all of you reached this depth so quickly. The victory is yours. Congratulations.”

Tauro shook hands with the [Great Hero].

“Thank you, Tauro-dono…”

The conquest-team leader looked toward the ceiling for a moment, struggling to contain the emotion stirred by Tauro’s words.

 Then the leader continued.

“Tauro-dono, would you destroy the Dungeon Core on behalf of everyone here? According to the information you gave us, the one who destroys it should receive an item reflecting that person’s greatest desire. We’d like you to accept that reward.”

The other heroes nodded their agreement.

“I can’t accept. The dragonfolk conquered this dungeon, so a representative of the dragonfolk should bring the conquest to its conclusion.”

 Tauro firmly declined the offer.

“The report should already have reached the village. Chief Ryuga will undoubtedly hurry to the first-floor rest room to welcome all of you, so I’ll go and bring him here.”

Tauro then looked over the exhausted expedition members.

“While we’re gone, please eat and recover. All of you’re battered, and it doesn’t look as though you’ve had a proper meal.”

He drew numerous pots, tubs, bowls, and stacks of tableware from [Magic Storage].

When the lids were lifted, the aroma of curry – a favorite among the dragonfolk during the preceding months – filled the chamber.

“There’s plenty of rice and pork cutlet, along with hamburger steaks and other toppings. Take your time and eat as much as you need.”

After thanking everyone for their hard work, Tauro returned to the rest room with Ankh, Ragune, and the escort team.

“Let’s go back to the first floor.”

Once everyone was ready, Tauro transferred them to the dungeon’s first-floor rest room.

News of the conquest had already filled that safe area with a celebratory atmosphere. Tauro and his companions waited there for Chief Ryuga, though even at his fastest the chief should have required several hours to arrive.

While they waited, the supply personnel stationed on the first floor repeatedly approached Tauro’s group, thanking them through tears.

“Leader, it seems your contribution to the dragonfolk is even greater than I realized,” Ankh murmured, astonished by the depth of their joy.

“As I’ve explained many times, Tauro’s [Spatial Transfer] changed everything,” Ragune said. “Before he came, every expedition had to advance from the first floor while preserving enough strength and supplies for the entire return journey. It took several hundred years merely to pass the 200th floor.”

 She continued with mounting pride.

“Once Tauro could transfer the conquest teams directly to the deepest secured rest room, they could challenge each new floor at full strength without worrying about retreat. The dragonfolk have risked their lives for this conquest for generations. Tauro is already a living legend among our people!”

“Ragune may sound excessive, but what she says is true, Tauro-dono,” Tsugumu added. “I’m certain the chief will tell you the same thing.”

At that very moment, Chief Ryuga burst into the rest room alone.

Hardly any time had passed since the report was sent. From his ragged breathing, he must have raced ahead so quickly that every attendant had been left far behind.

“Haah… Tauro-dono… You’ve become a living legend among our people!”

The breathless chief’s declaration sounded as though he had somehow overheard Ragune from outside.

“Ha ha ha… We can discuss legends later. For now, I’ll take you to the Dungeon Core.”

“The Dungeon Core…?” Chief Ryuga repeated in disbelief.

“Yes. The conquest teams are waiting for you. As the representative of the dragonfolk, please bring the conquest to its conclusion.”

Tauro took the chief’s hand, everyone formed a circle once more, and [Spatial Transfer] carried them to the lowest floor.
