Chapter 298: More Requests

Tauro’s Minotaur-subjugation request was officially declared complete.

Ryuko also checked his adventurer tag to confirm the result, and the record of his Minotaur kill was properly engraved there.

“With this request completed, and taking your previous free quests into account, you’ll be promoted to D-plus, Tauro.”

The receptionist returned his tag after finishing the procedure.

“Would you like to try another of these requests and aim for the C-rank band?”

Salaman waved the seal used to convert ranked requests into free quests.

“No. I won’t go any farther for now. Fighting the Minotaur showed me that I’m still not strong enough. I could never have won without Pella and the ability-enhancing effects of my equipment. Besides, I want to reach C-rank together with my companions.”

 Tauro declined the offer.

“I see. In that case, it can’t be helped. I’ll have the guild purchase the Minotaur’s remains. The hide is covered in wounds, so almost nothing besides the magic stone retains much value. Is that acceptable?”

“Yes, that’s fine. Still, Minotaurs are extraordinarily tough. I inflicted several wounds that should have been fatal, but it simply refused to fall.”

Tauro described the difficulties of the battle.

“That’s because Minotaurs are famous for their strength and stamina… Hm? Let me appraise it more carefully.”

Salaman examined the carcass, then raised his brows.

“Tauro, this is a Minotaur subspecies. Some variants possess powerful healing and regenerative abilities. That must be why it survived for so long. Defeating this alone was quite an achievement. Ha ha ha!”

 “A subspecies? [True Eye]!”

Tauro checked the monster again with [True Eye] and discovered the detail he had overlooked while hurriedly storing the corpse.

“You’re right. How strong was this creature compared with an ordinary Minotaur?”

“Taking its regeneration into account, the difficulty was probably equivalent to fighting several ordinary Minotaurs. Compatibility matters, of course. A prolonged close-range battle was especially unfavorable for you.”

Salaman reached into [Magic Storage] and withdrew an enormous battle-axe.

“In my case, I’d simply take its head off with this. That would end the regeneration problem immediately.”

The axe was larger than Tauro himself.

“That’s enormous… But with a weapon like that, I can certainly imagine you cutting through a Minotaur’s thick neck.”

Tauro might have been able to lift it while benefiting from all his equipment enhancements, but its size alone would have made it almost impossible for him to wield properly.

Once again, the scale of everything associated with dragonfolk was excessive.

“I used to belong to the dungeon-conquest force myself. In those days, they called me ‘Decapitator Salaman.’ Ha ha ha!”

So Salaman had once been a warrior comparable to an S-rank adventurer.

The more Tauro learned about the people in the village, the more convinced he became that comparing himself with them would only destroy his confidence.

“Ah! I still have today’s transportation request to complete.”

Recovering from the shock, Tauro accepted his usual assignment and headed for the dungeon.

The following day, at the Dragonfolk Village Adventurers’ Guild branch—

Tauro examined the request board and discovered yet another new notice.

It was a free quest requesting transportation into and out of the dungeon.

“The client isn’t the guild or Chief Ryuga?”

 Surprised, Tauro turned to Ryuko.

“No. A support party assigned to the middle floors heard how quickly the branch manager’s group returned using your [Spatial Transfer]. They want to hire you for the same service. We may begin receiving more requests like this.”

Until then, most dragonfolk had hesitated to make personal requests because Tauro was assisting the dungeon-conquest force. Salaman had apparently explained that anyone could formally hire Tauro through the Adventurers’ Guild by paying the proper fee—or, more likely, had enthusiastically boasted about [Spatial Transfer] until everyone understood the opportunity.

A support party preparing for another expedition had therefore requested transportation to its starting point and a later return trip.

If requests of that kind continued to increase, the branch might finally begin functioning as a proper Adventurers’ Guild.

That would benefit both the guild and Tauro.

“The requested destination is Floor 100… Reaching it normally would certainly be exhausting, especially while we don’t know how long the Storm on Floor 86 will continue. Understood. I’ll accept this request along with my usual one.”

“I hoped you would. The client is waiting in the back room and would like to explain the details personally.”

Ryuko guided Tauro to the branch manager’s office.

As he opened the door, Salaman’s booming laughter greeted him.

“That’s why you’re still only part of a middle-floor support party! Ha ha ha! Oh, Tauro—you accepted their request? Excellent. This is my daughter, Salaan. She’s the client.”

Salaman proudly introduced the woman seated across from him.
