Chapter 297: Return of the Branch Chief

Thanks to Tauro’s efforts, Salaman, the branch manager of the Adventurers’ Guild Dragon People’s Village Branch, returned to the guild for the first time in several months.

Perhaps because of Tauro’s wish, when he visited the guild as usual the next day, he found many quests posted on the bulletin board, including those for collecting magic stones in dungeons, collecting materials, thinning out monsters in dungeons, making maps, and capturing monsters for research, in addition to the promised “spatial transfer” pickup quest.

“The number of quests is increasing! Yay! … Wait, these are A-rank and B-rank quests…”

Tauro was pleased at first without reading it carefully, but he was surprised at the contents.

“That’s what we usually do in the dungeon. This time around, I decided to leave it to the other guys and put it up.”

Salaman, the branch manager, came out of the back room and explained to Tauro.

“Are you already working today, yesterday? Why don’t you at least take the rest of the day off?”

Tauro was stunned by Salaman’s return.

He had been in the dungeon for an extended period of time and had been exposed to a state of mental exhaustion, no matter how much he was a dragon person.

No one would complain if he took a few days off.

“I’m fine now, right? Ha ha ha!”

  Salaman smiled cheerfully.

Indeed, you seem to be fine. ……

The dragon people’s substandard abilities were really making Tauro feel a bit disconcerted.

“But what about these quests you’ve been putting up? I’m the only adventurer in this guild, so no one else is going to do it.”

“I think there is an order to everything, don’t you? The receptionist Ryuko told me that if there is no quest (demand) in the first place, then there will be no one (supply) to do it. The dragon people usually do most of the necessary things themselves, so we don’t quite understand the need for this adventurers’ guild, but I thought if I put it up like this, maybe someday someone will come along and say, ‘Well, I’ll do it for you.’”

Tauro nodded in admiration at Salaman’s words.

 Yes, that’s right.

If there is nothing, there will be no one to visit, but if you put it up, there will be people who will see it, and some day there may be people who will take it on.

However, it was absurd that the content of the quest was in the A or B rank range.

Among humans, the A-rank belt reserved for only a very small handful of super first-class adventurers.

I don’t know how much time, talent, and effort it takes to get to that level,……, but this is a village of dragon people, and there are a lot of warriors of that level here. So our senses are too different…

Tauro could not help but be stunned at the thought of it.

“Would you like to give it a try, Tauro-dono? Now, the branch manager can decide to change these rank-band quests to free quests due to emergency situations, you know? Ha ha ha!”

Salaman laughed as his fiery red hair and red beard swayed.

“…… haha. It’s reckless. …… ─ ─ Yes? Defeating the Minotaur and the associated request to collect magic stones, materials, and thinning?”

“Yes, that’s a B+ ranked quest, but would you like to take on the challenge? I have the branch manager’s authority now…”

 Salaman turns to Tauro.

He was joking because he knew that even though Tauro had a lot to see, he was still just a kid and couldn’t do it.

“…If I clear this, will I be able to move up in rank??”

“No, Tauro-kun. Right now, your current rank is D-, so it’s dangerous. It’s just a joke from the branch manager, so you don’t have to deal with it, okay?”

Ryuko, who was watching the exchange between the two, intervened and called out.

“Tauro-dono is currently ranked D-? …… hmm. If you can clear it, I can raise it to D+ rank by my authority as branch manager.”

 Salaman grins and promises.

“Hey, Branch Manager! What if Tauro-kun takes it in his stride and does something reckless? No, Tauro-kun, you mustn’t do that, okay?”

Receptionist Ryuko warned the branch manager and Tauro.

“Then, please make this quest a free quest.”

 Tauro answered with conviction.

“Okay, okay. I’ll abuse my authority and make this quest a free quest!”

It’s no good when you call it abuse of authority yourself, but once you remove the quest you put up, you stamp a seal on it with the authority of the branch manager.

It’s a seal of approval to make it an urgent free quest.

“Then, Ryuko-san, please accept it.”

Tauro was inwardly overjoyed and handed the quest to Ryuko.

“Wait a minute, Tauro-kun! It’s really dangerous, okay? … Mouu! I don’t care, branch chief!”

Ryuko completes the procedure with a sense of dread.

“Then, since I have received the order, please accept this as proof of subjugation.”

Tauro confirmed that Ryuko’s procedures were completed, and brought out the remains of the Minotaur that he had defeated on the 86th level from the magic storage.

“This guy surprises me! It is indeed a minotaur. Tauro-dono, did you and Tsugumi and his escort team take down the Minotaur yesterday when you were searching for us?”

Salaman is honestly surprised and confirms it with Tauro.

“No, I encountered this minotaur when I was separated from the escort team, so I defeated it alone. It took me almost an hour to defeat it, though.”

Tauro replied with a wry smile, embarrassed that it took him an hour to do so, since Tsugumi had said he could usually defeat it in less than a minute.

“Tauro-dono… There’s no one among the dragon people who can defeat a minotaur solo at your age. This guy is a hoot…!”

Branch Manager Salaman marveled at the fact that a child of the human race, whom he had thought to be no ordinary person, possessed extraordinary strength.
