Chapter 291: Time for the Four of Them

Although they couldn’t leave Marquis Van Dyne’s residence, Tauro, Aeris, Ragune, and Ankh spent their reunion recounting everything that had happened and comparing their experiences.

“—And thanks to the equipment you prepared for us, Tauro, we’ve improved considerably. We’re even beginning to earn recognition from the Adventurers’ Guild headquarters in the Royal Capital.”

“I’m glad to hear it, but that’s the result of your own hard work. Oh, that reminds me—how are the three dragonfolk doing?”

“They’re doing well! I taught them all sorts of things about life here, but they’re much older than I’m and already accomplished warriors, so there’s no need to worry. We’ve often gone our separate ways since reaching the Royal Capital, but that’s because they’re gathering information.”

Ragune answered on behalf of the three.

“Leader, those three are remarkable. They’re not only powerful fighters, but also first-rate trackers, interrogators, and investigators. It’s extraordinary that we have three warriors with such a broad range of abilities.”

Ankh rarely praised others so highly.

He was an exceptional warrior himself and judged everyone by demanding standards, so praise from him carried considerable weight.

“With those three in the team, Black-Gold Wings’ reputation has risen significantly. By the time you return, our name may be well known throughout the Royal Capital.”

 Aeris smiled proudly.

“I see. Then I’ll have to work just as hard on my quests in the village—with Pella’s help, of course.”

When Tauro touched the belt it was mimicking, Pella responded with a cheerful bounce.

“From what you’ve told us, Pella is extremely strong. But that doesn’t give you permission to be reckless or to overwork it, understand? Pella’s defensive body saved you from the realm guardian’s attack in the dungeon.”

“Ha ha… That time, I certainly did rely on Pella. I’ll be more careful.”

Tauro laughed awkwardly at Aeris’s warning and promised to exercise greater caution.

Their time together passed quickly. After spending the night at Marquis Van Dyne’s residence, Tauro prepared to return to the dragonfolk village early the next morning.

“Aeris, Ragune, Ankh—I’ll leave everything here to you. I hope the adoption is finalized and Viscount Saissi is brought to justice.”

“Leave it to us, and take care of yourself too. The next time we meet, I hope it’ll be after Viscount Saissi has been arrested for trying to have you killed.”

“I hope so. Oh, and please give Marquis Van Dyne and Count Graunewald my regards. I won’t forget what they’ve done for me.”

“I’ll tell them, but you can thank them yourself when you next return.”

“You’re right. Ragune, please open [Dimensional Corridor].”

“All right.”

 Ragune opened [Dimensional Corridor].

Tauro waved farewell to the three and disappeared through it.

“He’s gone again.”

 Ankh muttered the obvious.

“Yes. Tauro is working hard over there, so we need to do the same here. We must protect Black-Gold Wings—the place he can always return to.”

“Exactly! That’s the most important thing we can do right now.”

 Ragune nodded emphatically.

“Once the three dragonfolk wake up, shall we visit the Adventurers’ Guild and accept a quest?”

“They’ve seemed restless lately, so a change of pace would probably do them good.”

“All right. I’ll go wake them.”

Ragune immediately started toward the rooms occupied by the three older dragonfolk.

“Don’t, Ragune. They scolded you the last time you woke them this early, remember?”

Aeris stopped her, mindful of how poorly the three handled early mornings.

“Ah… that’s true. Then I’ll train until they wake up. Ankh, help me practice with my spear.”

“Fine by me, but are you planning to use the shield and armor Tauro gave you again?”

“Of course! I want to master them well enough to surprise Tauro when he returns.”

“Ha ha. I understand, but don’t get carried away and destroy the marquis’s garden again. Sheeps will give you another lecture.”

During a previous training session, Ragune had damaged the garden badly enough to earn a stern reprimand from Sheeps, the residence’s butler.

“That was… unfortunate. I truly did go too far. Ugh… Kill me…”

Ragune’s familiar phrase escaped her lips as Ankh reminded her of the embarrassing incident.
