Chapter 286: Various Things…
While Tauro’s possible adoption was once again being discussed in the Royal Capital, Tauro himself remained busy in the dragonfolk village.
His days were filled with dungeon transportation duties, preparations for the curry shop, and arrangements to manufacture and sell magic tools created under his Giro Sugar identity.
Tauro intended only to teach the recipes for the curry shop and have the village operate it.
“Are you certain about this? It doesn’t seem as though Tauro-dono will earn much from the arrangement.”
Cooks, the food developer who would manage the restaurant, felt guilty because Tauro was providing the recipes and even helping establish the shop.
“Thanks to you, Cooks-san, we developed curry roux that keeps well and improved the curry’s flavor. More importantly, I’ve grown fond of this village and want everyone here to enjoy it. I’ll charge a planning fee, though.”
“A planning fee?”
The unfamiliar term left Cooks puzzled.
“I mean a fee for deciding the shop’s concept, location, and other details. Ragune’s [Dimensional Corridor] makes the village quick to reach, but it’s still geographically far away. Rather than trying to manage a shop here myself, it’ll be better for the village to operate it as a community business. If you ever want to open a branch outside the village, please consult me first.”
“Understood. I’ll report that proposal to the chief.”
Cooks accepted Tauro’s explanation, and the two shook hands firmly.
The curry shop planned by the village’s young savior drew a line of customers from the moment it opened. Before long, plans were already underway for another branch near the dungeon.
Tauro next approached dragonfolk artisans who had room in their schedules and asked them to manufacture the magic tools created by Giro Sugar.
The designs included magic lanterns, rain gear, refrigerators, and coolers based on magic-circle technology, as well as water pumps, baths, toilets, and various heating appliances developed with [Creation Magic (Weak)].
“Did you devise all of these yourself, Tauro-dono? This is extraordinary. Forgive me, but I had assumed dragonfolk technology was more advanced than human technology. It seems I was mistaken.”
The assembled craftsmen were deeply impressed as Tauro explained each item.
“Dragonfolk craftsmanship is already exceptional. I merely made several improvements to magic-circle technology developed by those who came before me. I’m asking you to produce these precisely because I believe your skills are superior.”
Tauro answered modestly without wounding their pride.
“Hmm… Some of these designs certainly contain techniques neither humans nor dwarves normally possess. Even we may struggle to reproduce work of this quality, but we’ll try.”
Tauro was the village’s benefactor, the proposed products would improve dragonfolk life, and the sophisticated designs appealed to the artisans’ pride.
After exchanging glances, the craftsmen accepted the challenge and immediately began working.
By the time Tauro returned to Drago and Ragune’s house, the sun had already set. Ragune was waiting for him with an eager expression.
“Welcome home, Tauro! My brother told me you’ve been busy from morning until night. Have you eaten dinner yet? If you still have pork cutlets in [Magic Storage], I’d like some.”
Ragune greeted him warmly, then immediately derailed the conversation toward food.
“I’m home. I haven’t eaten yet. Did something happen in the Royal Capital? Is that why you waited for me?”
Ragune was smiling, so Tauro assumed that nothing disastrous had occurred.
“Let’s talk over dinner. I haven’t eaten pork cutlets in a long time.”
Apparently, her craving was urgent.
Tauro took three servings of pork cutlet from [Magic Storage], and he, Ragune, and Drago began eating together.
“So, what brought you here?”
Tauro asked again while Ragune happily ate her first proper pork cutlet in some time.
“Hmm? Oh, right! Black-Gold Wings is staying in the Royal Capital at the moment, so I rarely get to eat them. I taught the cooks at Aeris’s house how to make pork cutlets, and they can prepare something similar, but they’re not as good as the ones at the Dwarf Inn. Besides, they don’t serve them every day…”
Instead of explaining why she had come, Ragune began describing the difficulty of obtaining good pork cutlets in the capital.
“Wait, Ragune. What did you actually come to tell me?”
“Oh, that? The complete explanation is long, but the important part is that Tauro is going to be adopted by a noble family.”
Having finally delivered the message, Ragune stuffed another piece of pork cutlet into her mouth.
“What do you mean?”
Even Tauro, who was usually quick to understand, couldn’t follow the abrupt announcement. His mind filled with question marks.
