Chapter 284: An Eradication Crisis?

The day after returning from the 202nd floor, Tauro was summoned and lectured by Chief Ryuga.

The quest had been intended to keep Tauro safe by limiting his role to transporting personnel and supplies between rest rooms. Instead, he had crossed the newly reached deepest floor and joined a dangerous battle. As the client, Chief Ryuga was responsible for Tauro’s safety, and as one of the dragonfolk village’s benefactors, Tauro was someone he sincerely didn’t want to lose.

Chief Ryuga therefore warned him sternly that, even if a similar situation arose again, he wasn’t to join a dangerous operation and should leave the fighting to others.

“I also received Tsugumu’s report. By defeating the realm guardian that the conquest team couldn’t overcome, your group caused the key and staircase to the next floor to appear. Thank you. Advancing through even one floor can take us several days, so this was an enormous help.”

“It was only possible because of the support team and escort team. I also learned that the dungeon’s depths are still too much for someone as inexperienced as me.”

That was Tauro’s honest assessment.

He had only been able to experiment with dark magic because he was surrounded by extraordinarily powerful dragonfolk. Without them, the monster’s first attack might easily have sent him to the other side.

“Even so, Tauro-dono, you’re only thirteen. No one among our people could fight as well as you do at that age. If you continue training without becoming arrogant, you may one day become a warrior capable of fighting in the deepest floors. What do you say? On days when you’re not transporting people, would you like to undergo the hellish training of our Dragon’s Den? I wouldn’t normally recommend it to a human, but you might be able to endure it.”

Chief Ryuga respected Tauro so highly that he apparently believed the boy could survive the same brutal training that made dragonfolk children mutter, “Kill me…”

“I truly appreciate the offer…”

Tauro replied politely, then escaped from the chief’s house as quickly as he could.

After that, he devoted himself strictly to his transportation duties, using [Spatial Transfer] only to move between the dungeon’s rest rooms.

Before long, however, he received a new request.

It was a request to mass-produce curry.

“We heard that you left curry and sweet bean buns with one of the conquest teams during a supply delivery. Members of the other teams later had a chance to taste them. They normally never complain about their food, but this time they asked us to provide the same meals. We in supply management want to grant their request, but we’ve never prepared anything like them. Would you please teach us?”

The speaker was a beautiful dragonfolk woman with red hair and golden eyes who served as a supply manager at the Dragonfolk Village Adventurers’ Guild branch. She bowed deeply to Tauro.

“Please raise your head. Your timing is actually perfect. I’ve been thinking about opening a curry shop in the dragonfolk village.”

“A curry shop…?”

The supply manager tilted her head.

“Yes. I can’t operate it myself, so I planned to give the recipes to someone who could run it. The problem was that I had no connections here.”

“In that case, the Supply Management Department knows people involved in cooking and preserved-food development. We should be able to help.”

The woman’s eyes lit up at the opportunity.

“Preserved food… That’s perfect. While we’re at it, we can develop curry roux that will keep for a long time.”

Things moved quickly after that.

The supply manager guided Tauro to the Supply Management Department and introduced him to Cooks, a man responsible for developing dishes and preserved foods. Tauro began by sharing the basic curry-powder recipe and teaching Cooks how to prepare curry for the conquest teams.

“I understand now. No wonder the conquest teams asked for it. We’ve never experienced anything like this aroma or flavor!”

Cooks nodded enthusiastically after tasting Tauro’s cooking.

“Now that the curry has been prepared, I’ll show you how to make the sweet bean buns as well.”

Tauro carefully explained everything from preparing the bean paste to kneading and steaming the dough.

Cooks was evidently an accomplished cook. He mastered each process immediately and reproduced it without needing a second explanation.

Teaching someone this skilled was easy.

Impressed that the dragonfolk excelled at far more than combat, Tauro also introduced several other dishes.

“So this is the pork cutlet that impressed the expedition members so much. Combined with curry, it’s almost criminally delicious. I’ll ask the garrison to hunt every orc in the region at once!”

After tasting the cutlet curry, the supply manager and Cooks clasped hands in fervent agreement.

The orcs were facing an eradication crisis.

And knowing the dragonfolk, Tauro feared they might actually do it.
