Chapter 21: Easy Come, Easy Go
To be honest, Tauro didn’t really understand his new ability, [Precision].
Given its name, he assumed it would be useful for intricate work. However, he rarely did that sort of work and couldn’t think of a good way to test it, so several days passed without an answer.
Then, while practicing archery in the guild courtyard as usual, he discovered that he could hit the target every time from his usual distance. His accuracy had improved dramatically.
“So [Precision] affects things like this…! Come to think of it, there’s such a thing as precision shooting.”
As he searched his memories from his previous life, Tauro realized that although his accuracy had improved, he was still physically weak. His shots literally had no more power than a child’s.
“I think I understand [Precision] now, but the mithril ore is the bigger problem.”
Tauro had worried that he might draw attention as the boy who had “accidentally” discovered mithril ore, but that concern turned out to be insignificant.
The discovery of a sizable piece of mithril ore in a quarry owned by the city of Saisi had become a major event in its own right.
It could transform the city’s finances overnight. This was no small matter.
Furthermore, if news that mithril could be mined there spread across the country, large numbers of outsiders dreaming of striking it rich would likely flood into the city.
An influx of people would throw the city into confusion and undermine public safety.
Tauro didn’t want to be at the center of that commotion, so he quickly arranged to sell the mithril through the guild.
From his perspective, receiving such a large sum of money would only make him a target.
Normally, the quarry would have purchased anything found there on the spot, but mithril was another matter.
They therefore asked the guild to act as an intermediary and find a buyer.
Once it sold, Tauro intended to rent out the guild-run restaurant next door and throw a lavish party for the Saisi branch staff, other people connected to the guild, townspeople who had helped him, and all the adventurers.
Even then, he might not be able to spend it all. If any money remained, he planned to donate every last coin to the orphanage.
Based on Taro Sato’s hard-earned experience in his previous life, his personal philosophy was simple:
“Easy come, easy go.”
It would be best to spend the money on something worthwhile.
That should help keep him safe as well.
The following day, Viscount Saisi, the lord of the territory, agreed to purchase the mithril ore.
It was the first piece of mithril ever mined in his domain, and he apparently considered it good luck to keep it in his possession.
For that reason, he paid a generous premium.
“After deducting the guild’s brokerage fee, that leaves you with 105 gold coins…”
The amount far exceeded Tauro’s expectations.
“Mithril really is that rare…”
He was simply stunned.
He wished he had examined it more carefully with [True Eye].
The mithril had sold for the equivalent of 10.5 million yen—far too much money for a ten-year-old child to shoulder.
In the branch manager’s office, Tauro was handed a bag containing the gold coins. When Branch Manager Leo asked what he planned to do with the money, Tauro explained his idea.
“Hmm. You intend to spend every last coin…? To make a decision like that at your age… Very well. Let’s make it spectacular!”
Leo laughed heartily, led Tauro down to the lobby in front of the first-floor reception desk, and raised his voice.
“Everyone, listen! As you all know, Tauro Satou found mithril. He wants to use the proceeds to treat everyone. In a few days, we’re renting out the place next door and throwing a party!”
A tremendous cheer erupted.
The staff, adventurers, and everyone else present roared with excitement, and the guild instantly took on a festive atmosphere.
“Yes! I can eat all the hamburgers I want!”
“Idiot! At a time like this, you’re supposed to drink until you drop!”
“Then we’ll eat and drink!”
“Thanks, Satou!”
Tauro was mobbed by the crowd as thanks poured in from every direction.

He should at least keep 10 gold for a rainy day
It’s tough, cuz in theory you’re right, but if word ever leaks that he kept 10 whole gold as backup some people are gonna give side-eyes. It’s a target on his back.
