Chapter 185: The Female Warrior
Tauro and Aeris accepted the familiar combination of a medicinal-herb gathering quest and a goblin-subjugation quest. Ordinarily, Black-Gold Wings would complete such work as a four-person team, but this time the two of them went alone.
Tauro decided that he should occasionally serve as the front-line fighter himself. [Divine Archer] had increased his physical strength considerably, so he was no longer as weak in close combat as he once had been.
He equipped a shield and also intended to make full use of his newly acquired weapon, Shortsword Tauro. He had last used it against skeletons and ghosts, and he wanted to test it against the goblins he regularly encountered.
Aeris would join the close-range fighting with her staff.
As soon as they reached the forest where goblins were known to appear, Tauro used [Presence Detection] and located a group of six.
He could have defeated them alone, but he and Aeris wanted to test their coordination. Rather than using [Presence Concealment] to ambush them, they approached openly and confronted the goblins head-on.
The monsters spread into a semicircle. Tauro stepped forward deliberately, drawing their attention and inviting them to attack.
The goblins rushed the exposed human with clubs and knives. Tauro caught a club strike on his shield, then drove Shortsword Tauro into the eye of the goblin wielding a knife.
As it collapsed with a scream, he immediately moved to the next opponent.
Aeris circled from the right. Wind magic enveloped her staff as she shattered one goblin’s club, continued the swing over its guard, and smashed its skull.
Meanwhile, Tauro cut another goblin’s throat with a compact stroke. He knocked aside a goblin attempting to circle from the left with his shield, made it stagger, and stabbed it before it could recover.
A goblin in the rear was struck in the head by the earth-spirit spell [Stone Pebble]. Tauro closed the distance and finished it, while Aeris brought down the remaining monster with her staff.
“As expected of you, Tauro. You really are skilled with a shield.”
“I was a little nervous because it had been a while, but I seem to be doing fine. You handled those goblins easily too.”
“I need to become accustomed to fighting this way as well. Battling skeletons and ghosts in the dungeon must have helped.”
“Shall we look for another group?”
“I’m not tired at all. Let’s continue after we collect the ears and magic stones as proof of subjugation.”
Aeris was enthusiastic, so Tauro stored the goblin corpses in [Magic Storage].
“We can dismantle them later.”
She nodded in agreement. Soon afterward, [Presence Detection] revealed another group, and the pair continued hunting.
By midday, they had defeated twenty-three goblins.
While Tauro used [Purification] to remove goblin blood from Aeris’s clothes, [Presence Detection] alerted him to a nearby person. When he examined the presence with [True Eye], he saw the silhouette of someone carrying a sword and shield.
That person was fighting thirteen goblins alone—far too many for a single fighter to handle safely.
“We should help,” Tauro told Aeris.
“Understood.”
They hurried toward the battle.
“Damn it! I never expected to run into two goblin groups while gathering medicinal herbs!”
The surrounded warrior was a woman, and her appearance was unusual.
Two horns rose from her head. Her long black hair was tied in a ponytail, her eyes were golden, and her features were striking. She was tall and powerfully built, with the proportions of a model, and wore scale armor that exposed portions of skin covered in natural scales.
Tauro initially wondered whether she might be sheepfolk because of the horns, but the scales made that impossible.
“Could she be lizardfolk?” Aeris whispered, stopping in surprise.
Tauro didn’t hesitate. He drew his bow and shot two goblins in rapid succession. Aeris quickly recovered and killed another with wind magic.
Encouraged by the arrival of reinforcements, the female warrior demonstrated impressive swordsmanship, cutting down two goblins in a single sweeping strike.
“Amazing! She defeated both of them with one swing,” Tauro exclaimed.
He loosed more arrows while Aeris attacked with water magic. Together with the warrior, they quickly eliminated the remaining goblins, including those that attempted to flee.
“Thank you both. You saved my life,” the woman said once the battle was over.
“Are you injured? I have potions,” Tauro offered, producing one from [Magic Storage].
“No, I’m unharmed. Are the two of you from this area?”
“I live here and work as an adventurer. Aren’t you an adventurer?”
“No. I only heard that many rare medicinal herbs grow in this region.”
“I see. Tell me what you’re searching for, and I may be able to help.”
“Truly? That would be extremely helpful! Wait—you aren’t planning to demand my body as payment afterward, are you? Kuh! Kill me!”
The female warrior suddenly said something very strange. However, she didn’t appear to be a bad person, so Tauro and Aeris decided to hear her story.

Note that the last line would be クッ、殺せ or or something similar which is the famous female knight line before they get, uh… Anyway, it’s “kuh, kill me”
