Chapter 108: Ideals and Reality
During a goblin-subjugation quest, Aeris spoke while fighting.
“We should just beat them up and get it over with.”
“Hmm? That’s what we’re doing now.”

Shin and Rumeya rampaged as well. Black-Gold Wings annihilated a swarm of twenty-five goblins in moments, despite it being enough prey for two teams.
“All right! That’s the last of them.”
After [Presence Detection] revealed nothing else nearby, Tauro nodded.
“Are we really going to leave those people alone?” Aeris asked again.
Perhaps the battle had relieved some of her frustration, because she was no longer sulking.
“They’re still adventurers. Even if they spread stories about us, the other adventurers saw what happened this morning and will understand the situation. Besides, they’re much weaker than us. Engaging them would only look like bullying.”
“But every one of them has an advanced skill.”
“That seems to be true, but even an advanced skill is wasted without effort. Those skills certainly offer advantages over general ones and make it easier to produce greater power, but… I think that advantage is canceled out by the people using them being so foolish.”
Shin laughed at Tauro’s assessment.
“You’re surprisingly venomous.”

“Come to think of it, didn’t those people originally say they wanted to recruit Aeris?” Shin asked, remembering an important detail.
“That’s right. Something about her bloodline and talent. Aeris, don’t let them steal you away,” Rumeya teased.
“Of course I won’t! Setting my bloodline aside… I’m a bundle of talent, so I understand why someone would want to recruit me. But I’m not stupid enough to go with people like them.”
Aeris snorted, then looked at Tauro.
“…So we’re all agreed that we won’t engage them?”
After everyone answered, they began collecting the goblins’ magic stones and right ears as proof of the subjugation.
When Tauro’s party returned, the Jet-Black Swords were waiting outside the guild.
“…I’ll get straight to the point. Aeris, you belong on my team,” Nasirus said.
Surprisingly, he didn’t complain about the morning’s events. Perhaps the other adventurers had given him a stern warning.
“Obviously not. What made you imagine I would agree?”
Aeris stared at him in disbelief.
“I heard at the Dareder branch that you’re a nobleman’s daughter. With your talent and bloodline, you belong with us. Remaining on a team of commoners with no future would be a terrible waste.”
Nasirus delivered this opinion with absolute confidence.
“You really are a fool. Bloodline is irrelevant to an adventurer; ability is what matters. We’re already quite capable. Unlike you, we don’t sit back and rely on our natural gifts. We train, improve, and produce results. While you were boasting about defeating one goblin, we defeated twenty-five today alone.”
“Twenty-five?! Ha ha ha! Even as an exaggeration, that’s absurd. How disappointing—you appear to be a compulsive liar.”
Nasirus shrugged theatrically and laughed.
Without a word, Tauro took a leather bag from [Magic Storage], opened it, and spread out the goblin ears inside.
The Jet-Black Swords stared in shock at the evidence before them.
“This is reality. When have your precious bloodlines and advanced skills defeated so many goblins or helped so many people in need? Until you can do that, you’re only half-fledged adventurers. You should be ashamed of your inexperience.”
Aeris’s words shredded the pride of the noble children and confronted them with a reality they couldn’t refute.
