Chapter 203: Moving House
The group was returning from the forest after completing their quest when Tauro asked Ankh a practical question.
“Where are you staying at the moment, Ankh?”
“Me? I’m lodging at the Dwarf Inn.”
“We rent two houses for the team. Would you like to share mine?”
“But aren’t Tauro and Aeris living together?” Ragune asked casually. “I could share with Ankh instead.”
“No, no, no, Ragune,” Tauro said at once. “Putting an adult man and woman under the same roof would create problems.”
“I don’t see why. Is Ankh likely to lay a hand on me? I don’t believe so, and if he won’t, then there’s no problem.”
“You’re trusting me awfully quickly just because I’ve joined the team,” Ankh said. “What would you do if I lost control and attacked you?”
Ragune considered the question seriously.
“If drink or something else made you lose your senses, I’d strike you until you recovered. That’s enough for dragonfolk. Humans are less durable, though… Would stabbing you once be safer?”
Tauro smiled wryly. Dragonfolk apparently settled such matters with remarkable directness.
Ankh burst out laughing.
“I have no intention of doing anything, but you should be more conscious of your own appearance, Ragune. You’re a beautiful woman. That alone is enough to confuse some men.”
Tauro suspected the two of them would probably be fine together, but as the team leader, he felt obliged to choose a sensible arrangement.
“What do you think, Aeris?”
Aeris hesitated, then sighed.
“We don’t have much choice. I’ll live with Ragune, and Tauro can share with Ankh.”
“Are you sure? I truly don’t mind living with Ankh.”
“It’s fine. Leaving a beautiful woman and a grown man alone in one house would be asking for trouble. If we believe Ankh is a decent adult, this arrangement is the most reasonable one.”
“Wahaha! I can’t promise that my idea of common sense is entirely respectable, but I’ll follow the leader’s decision. What do you say, Leader?”
“Then I’ll move into Ragune’s house, and Ragune can take my room…”
“That would only make more work,” Aeris interrupted. “I can simply move into Ragune’s house. Then only one person has to relocate. You’ll help carry my things, won’t you?”
The decision was made.
After completing the quest-reporting procedures at the guild, Tauro accompanied Ankh to the Dwarf Inn, helped him pack, and showed him to the house.
Ankh looked around in astonishment.
“This is supposed to be an ordinary rental house? It has a proper bathroom, a bathtub, a well, and all these unfamiliar fixtures.”
Tauro explained the improvements one by one.
“You built all of this, Leader? What exactly are you? Does the other house have the same equipment? This may be more convenient than some noble residences. Joining Black-Gold Wings has already improved my living conditions! Wahaha!”
Ankh was delighted with his new home.
“Tauro, come take care of my luggage!” Aeris called from outside.
“All right. Ankh, start unpacking. I’m going to help Aeris.”
Tauro hurried away.
“Our leader really can do almost anything,” Ankh muttered, impressed.
Tauro placed Aeris’s belongings in [Magic Storage], and the two of them walked toward Ragune’s house.
“Are you truly comfortable with this arrangement?” Tauro asked again.
“Isn’t it the best choice?” Aeris replied. “I’m disappointed that I won’t get Tauro’s cooking every morning, though.”
“You and Ragune can come to my house for meals. Eating together will be more enjoyable anyway.”
Aeris brightened.
“That’s true. Now that Ragune has acknowledged me as a friend, living together should be fun as well.”
Then she remembered something.
“Speaking of friendship, what exactly is the blood pact Ragune mentioned?”
“We never asked her.”
“I’ll ask when we arrive. But if it’s what the name suggests, we may need a potion.”
Aeris lightly tapped the small pouch that held her medicine.
“Does it sound that painful?”
“It’s called a blood pact. I dislike pain too, but if it’s an important sign of companionship for Ragune, I can endure it.”
Tauro nodded. As they finished the conversation, they arrived at Ragune’s house.
