Chapter 475: Additional Antidote
As Sister-in-law Daniela had predicted, there was no meeting that day, and we spent the remaining time in the guest room.
Because our visit to the royal castle was secret, we could not walk around outside and simply remained in our rooms.
The following morning, we had tea with Princess Sophia and the others. In the afternoon, the time for the audience finally arrived.
They must have been extremely busy because of the Bone Dragon incident. The fact that they had made time to meet us amid everything else showed how genuinely grateful they were.
The audience took place in Her Majesty the Queen’s private chambers. His Majesty could enter such a room without attracting attention. Once we had exchanged greetings, the king went straight to the point.
“I sincerely apologise for imposing on you for my own selfish reasons. I simply had to thank you in person—not only for saving Sir Erwin, but for saving many of our knights as well.”
His Majesty bowed his head. Sister-in-law Daniela immediately asked him to raise it. As expected of my dependable sister-in-law. The rest of us could only remain silent; I had no idea what expression I ought to wear in such a conversation.
“It is true that we helped Sir Erwin, but what do you mean by ‘many knights’?”
“The mid-grade healing potions Princess Daniela delivered as relief supplies allowed us to save many of the wounded.”
“I see. I’m glad they were useful. By the way, did any of the wounded show symptoms resembling poisoning?”
His Majesty’s eyes widened at Sister-in-law Daniela’s question. Her Majesty also looked startled and covered her mouth with her fan. Apparently, that information had not been made public.
“How did you know?”
“Sir Erwin showed signs of poisoning, so I gave him an antidote as well.”
“What! Then the antidote Princess Daniela brought truly did work. Sir Erwin is healthy again, after all.”
Something about the way he said it bothered me. It sounded as though the Kingdom of Raven’s own antidote had failed against the Bone Dragon’s poison. Brother Alex and Sister-in-law Daniela looked at me. They must have reached the same conclusion.
“Forgive me for asking, but did your antidote fail?”
“It halted the poison’s progression, but it has not removed the poison completely.”
“Princess Daniela, do you have any more of that antidote?”
Her Majesty asked Sister-in-law Daniela desperately. We had some, but not much. If a large quantity was required, we would have to gather the materials and make a new batch. Sister-in-law Daniela looked at me, and I gave her a small nod. We had come this far; there was no turning back.
“If you require more antidote, my brother-in-law Julius can make it.”
Every eye turned towards me. Some were filled with hope, some with anxiety and others with surprise. The reactions varied.
“As long as the ingredients are prepared, I can make it immediately. It uses the same materials as an ordinary antidote.”
After a brief silence, His Majesty’s expression tightened, while Her Majesty looked pleased. Princess Sophia and Sir Erwin still appeared surprised. They had apparently only half believed that I could truly compound magic potions.
“I will have the ingredients prepared at once. Will the royal castle’s compounding room be suitable?”
“That will be fine. If possible, I would also like to borrow several trustworthy magic pharmacists. It would be difficult for me to make enough for everyone alone.”
“Understood. I will arrange it immediately. Naturally, they will be sworn to secrecy.”
Now wearing the expression of a true king, His Majesty nodded firmly. Personally, I did not mind if the method spread. I had intended to share it eventually, and establishing a foundation here in the Kingdom of Raven would be beneficial. Of course, that would still depend on the people involved.
The discussion then turned to the Bone Dragon. Keeping its existence secret had apparently become impossible, so the surrounding residents were being informed and arrangements made for their relocation. It was only a matter of time before the news spread beyond the kingdom.
His Majesty’s face was filled with anguish. Information that the Kingdom of Raven was suffering because of the Bone Dragon would naturally expose a weakness. He had probably wished to prevent that from becoming known.
“I had hoped Sir Erwin would earn sufficient distinction to be elevated at least to the rank of count. Then Sophia could marry him without difficulty…”
“Father…”
His Majesty evidently supported Princess Sophia’s marriage to Sir Erwin. Perhaps marrying her outside the highest ranks of nobility would remove her from disputes over the succession. I knew little about the Kingdom of Raven’s internal affairs, but the possibility that the royal siblings were competing over the throne was worrying.
“I heard that you used the Holy Sword. Is that true?”
“Yes, although it did not function properly. It broke during the battle with the Bone Dragon.”
“Can it be repaired?”
“I will not know until I examine it, but repairing it will probably be difficult. Julius, are you interested in the Holy Sword?”
His Majesty looked at me with an indulgent expression, and the others wore similar smiles. Perhaps they thought I was acting like a child. Still, with a Holy Sword close at hand, I naturally wanted to see it at least once. Brother Cain and Sister-in-law Meeka would probably have leapt at the opportunity as well.
“I would at least like to see what kind of sword it is.”
Oh boy.
