Chapter 413: Preparations

The next morning, during breakfast, Carol immediately consulted Marquis Mulan.

“Father, Juliu-sama has agreed to create a magic tool for the shower. I would like to introduce him to the magic tool workshop in the capital. What do you think?”

“A magic tool for the shower? Oh, you mean that convenient one installed in the townhouse? Of course! I’ll arrange it right away.”

“Thank you very much.”

I quickly expressed my gratitude to Marquis Mulan as he turned toward me. Although it felt like I had pushed Carol into making the request, it wouldn’t have been appropriate for me, as a guest, to ask for it myself. However, with this, we could install the shower magic tool in the bathroom. This should make it much easier for the women to wash their hair.

It seemed that traveling to the depths of the forest would take a little more time. Apparently, some herbs and other materials were being gathered in advance. On the actual day, we would head straight to the location and return immediately.

Going in quickly and coming back quickly—this was indeed the safest method. It was far better than wandering around the depths of the forest with a large group.

After breakfast, we began working on what was called a flowerbed but was actually an herb garden. I borrowed work clothes from the gardeners of the Mulan Marquisate. Since children also worked as gardener apprentices, there were outfits that fit me perfectly.

“It suits you well.”

Fabienne smiled happily upon seeing me dressed in work clothes in my room. Unfortunately, there were no work clothes for young girls, so Fabienne would be observing. Since she was holding Mira, it seemed she would be watching over us with Mira.

“Rather than suiting me, I think it just doesn’t look out of place.”

“You look just like a gardener’s son. But are you sure we don’t need to help?”

As we were preparing, Axel and Isidore came by to check on us. They must have heard about it from someone. The only ones in work clothes were Nero and me. The other servants remained in their usual attire. Seeing this, it was natural for them to be curious.

However, I had magic.

“It’s fine. No problem. If you’re curious, do you want to come and watch?”

“Sounds good. I’ll invite Caro-sama first, then come over.”

“I’m interested, so I’ll go.”

With that, Axel left the room. Isidore seemed to have realized that I planned to handle things with magic, and his eyes began to shine with excitement. Isidore really loved magic.

We were led by the Mulan household’s servants to the designated location. Although it was in the corner of the garden, there was a magnificent hedge nearby. Was it really okay to create an herb garden in a place like this?

As Nero and I drew a rough outline on the ground, Axel arrived with Carol. It seemed Carol had hurried over, not wanting to be left out. She was slightly out of breath, whereas Axel looked perfectly composed.

“Carol, are you sure this is the right place? It has good sunlight and is in a really nice spot.”

“The completed herb garden will be inherited by my brother, right? In that case, there’s no problem.”

That made sense. If the herb garden used by the Marquis’s second son looked shabby, it wouldn’t reflect well on the family. I suddenly felt a heavy sense of responsibility. Stay calm, stay calm.

Now that I had Carol’s final confirmation, it was time to begin.

I explained the general plan to Carol. Of course, she didn’t fully understand everything, but just discussing it and getting her approval was important. It was a way of showing that I wasn’t doing this alone. This way, any mishaps wouldn’t be solely my fault—it would be a shared responsibility among everyone present.

“Since we’re all set, let’s get started. Everyone, just in case, step back a little.”

“What are you planning to do?”

Carol’s eyebrows wavered in curiosity. Fabienne, on the other hand, seemed to have figured out what I was about to do and had already put on a meaningful smile. It wasn’t a bitter smile. But it didn’t seem like she was particularly pleased either. If anything, she looked exasperated? She really was quite expressive.

“I’m going to create an herb garden using magic.”

“With magic…?”

Carol was left speechless, while Isidore sharpened his eyes, not wanting to miss a thing. Axel tilted his head, seemingly not fully understanding. Ignoring the stares from those around me, I focused my magic. Activating earth magic and my skill, I created soft, fluffy soil right before my eyes. Naturally, with ridges already formed.

“A-Amazing! The soil rose up in an instant!”

“Whoa! Is this already tilled?”

Axel touched the soil, his eyes widening in surprise at its texture. Isidore quickly followed suit, touching the soil as if he were conducting a detailed examination of its composition.

Fabienne and Carol seemed eager to join in, but I stopped them just in time.

“Fabienne, Carol, you can’t. Your hands and clothes will get dirty.”

“Ugh, but just a little…”

“Jeez, fine. Just a little, okay?”

Fabienne and Carol approached the herb garden. The servants did their best to hold up their dresses to keep them from touching the ground. Their thighs were almost visible—definitely not good for the eyes. I carefully positioned myself to block Axel and Isidore’s view. Proper positioning was key.

“It’s really soft and fluffy.”

“I never thought an herb garden could be made this easily.”

“Well, that’s because I used magic. Normally, it’s not this simple to create one.”

If they started thinking this was normal, the gardeners would resent me. So, I made sure to emphasize the magic aspect. That should do the trick.

There shouldn’t be any issues, but just to be safe, I touched the soil myself to check. Yep, both the texture and the appraisal results showed no problems. With this, we could start planting seedlings right away.
