Chapter 386: Sewing Companion

It seems that I was somehow able to convince Mother. The ban on magic potion development was avoided. However, she still had a troubled expression on her face.

“I acknowledge that you have a talent for magic potions, Julius. But safety is a different matter. Please be extremely careful.”

“Of course. I fully understand what materials are dangerous. I have no intention of using such materials.”

Mother finally seemed convinced, nodding deeply. Or perhaps she was just trying to convince herself? I was causing her some burden as well. I wanted to do something about it, but what could I do?

“By the way, Rosalia seems to be working on a new magic tool. Was it a vacuum cleaner magic tool?”

“Yes, it is a vacuum cleaner magic tool. The mechanism is complete, but I haven’t figured out how to remove the collected dust yet. However, my brother taught me a solution, so I should be able to resolve the issue soon.”

“I see. It looks like things are going well.”

Mother smiled warmly. Somehow, her attitude was completely different from when she was talking to me. This was unfair. As expected, everyone in the Heine Count’s family spoils Rosalia. Myself included.

After that, we discussed when to go shopping for jewels. Upon hearing this, Rosalia declared, “I want to go too,” so we decided to take her along. It’s nice to go shopping with family once in a while.

I had planned to continue developing magic potions in the afternoon, but I ended up helping Rosalia with her magic tool development instead. The worried look on Mother’s face during lunch left a strong impression on me. Fabienne didn’t say anything about my sudden change of plans. She was probably feeling the same way as I was.

Rosalia was beaming because I would be working with her. Of course, Mira and Lilie were also smiling. I was a little happy that no one seemed displeased. But that meant Fabienne would be left with nothing to do. I had invited her over every day under the pretense of helping with magic potions, so I felt a little bad.

“Sorry, Fabienne. You must be bored.”

“Not at all. I’m having fun playing with Mira like this.”

Saying that, she took Mira’s hand, which had been resting on her lap, and waved it toward me. She was treating her completely like a stuffed toy. But Mira looked like she was having fun too. As long as they were both enjoying themselves, it was fine.

In the workshop, the rabbit pelts and masks had already been brought in. As expected of the Heine Count family’s servants—so fast. The pelts were fine, but the masks were too small as they were. I needed to take them apart and stitch them together into one.

If this experiment worked, I would place a new order with the workshop that made masks.

I removed the mask straps and sewed the pieces together. This level of work was nothing for me. My “Sewing” skill, do your thing! Watching me, Fabienne let out a voice of admiration.

“As expected of you, Julius-sama. Your skill in making stuffed toys is truly remarkable.”

“Uh, thanks. Say, do you want to try it too, Fabienne? It’s an easy task, and you’ll get the hang of it quickly.”

“Yes, I’ll give it a try.”

I’ve got another sewing companion. Nice. I handed Fabienne a needle and thread and taught her how to sew. Sitting side by side and sewing like this is quite enjoyable.

Nearby, Rosalia was processing fur into a bag-like shape. She was using a large needle and hemp thread, but thanks to the benefits of her “Craft” skill, she worked smoothly and without difficulty.

The “Craft” skill, which enhances item creation, is truly versatile. In a broad sense, making stuffed animals also falls within its domain. In that case, the “Sewing” skill must be a specialized skill. It allows for more delicate work than the “Craft” skill.

It seems that Fabienne has a talent for sewing. With just a little instruction, she quickly started stitching. Could this be a chance for her to develop the “Sewing” skill?

“You’re really good, Fabienne. You definitely have a talent for sewing.”

“I-Is that so? It’s only because Julius-sama is a good teacher.”

Fabienne blushed and looked down. Yep, she’s as cute as ever—my wife. Nero and Mira watched us with warm expressions, but I ignored their gazes and continued working.

“This one’s finished. How about you, Rosalia?”

“I’m done as well. Please check it.”

I checked to make sure the bag had taken the proper shape. Yep, it looked good. I also inspected the fabric bag we made—both were fine. Now, the only thing left was to test whether they could properly collect debris.

Rosalia immediately attached the fur bag to the vacuum magic tool.

“I’ll activate it now.”

When Rosalia flipped the switch, the vacuum started up with a fwooon sound. However, the suction power felt a bit weak—not quite what I expected. That said, the air coming out of the exhaust vent was clean.

Next, we tested the fabric bag. The suction power was stronger than before, but in exchange, the air coming from the exhaust vent was slightly dusty. It seemed that using fur would be the better option. Now, if only we could make it reusable.

“It looks like using fur for the bag is the better choice. The fabric bag seems to leave behind some debris.”

“I agree with you, Julius-sama. But if we do that, I feel like the suction power will be a bit too weak.”

“You think so too, Sister-in-law? I thought the same thing. We’ve succeeded in gathering debris, so now we need to figure out how to increase the suction power.”

Rosalia looked pleased. It would still take some time before the vacuum magic tool was complete, but she seemed satisfied with the steady progress. At this point, Rosalia had truly become a skilled magic tool craftsman.
