Chapter 345: A Walk in the Sky
Mira looked up at me proudly, clearly asking what I thought.
The room remained silent. I had not meant to challenge them, but Mira had taken my words personally.
“That is remarkable, Mira. You learned to change your size.”
“Kyuu!”
I praised them and stroked their soft fur. Rosalia, who spent more time with Mira than anyone else, was the first to recover.
She hurried over and began petting Mira's enlarged form.
“Brother, can Mira carry me?”
“We shall have to test it carefully.”
“Kyuu, kyuu!”
Mira fixed me with an unmistakable demand to climb aboard.
I cautiously sat on their back. The thick fur was soft, and Mira remained perfectly steady.
“This should be safe.”
“Kyuu!”
Mira turned towards Lady Fabienne and called to her.
Lady Fabienne hesitated. Riding a holy dragon was probably far more intimidating to her than riding a horse.
“Come, Fabienne. Mira is inviting you.”
“Kyuu.”
“V-very well.”
She climbed onto Mira and sat side-saddle because of her skirt.
Some invisible force held both of us securely in place. It was probably one of Mira's natural abilities.
Father and Mother remained frozen in astonishment.
Before they recovered, Mira began walking forwards and then gently rose into the air.
“Ah!”
“This is surprisingly comfortable.”
“Brother, I want a turn as well!” Rosalia cried.
Startled by the sudden ascent, Lady Fabienne held tightly to my arm. I reassured her until her breathing steadied.
“Mira could carry us directly to the House Ambert estate,” I said. “It would be faster than travelling by road.”
“Kyuu!”
Mira sounded delighted by the praise.
Flying through the territorial capital would attract attention, but no traffic could obstruct us in the sky. The residents would eventually become accustomed to the sight.
Mira made a slow circuit of the room and returned to the floor. Lady Fabienne dismounted, Rosalia took her place, and Mira rose again.
“It feels as though something is holding me in place!” Rosalia exclaimed.
“Mira must be using magic to secure their riders.”
“Kyuu!”
Mira and Rosalia thoroughly enjoyed the second circuit. Lady Fabienne watched in a daze, still processing what had happened.
“We would like to try as well,” Mother said, “but Mira is not yet large enough for an adult.”
“That is true,” Father agreed. “We shall have to wait until they grow further.”
Mira's present form was ideal for two children but not balanced for an adult rider. In time, they might become large enough to carry Father and Mother as well.
“This solves the daily journey to House Ambert,” I said.
“My parents will certainly be relieved,” Lady Fabienne replied.
They would also be shocked, but they would have to grow accustomed to Mira's abilities.
The remaining question was speed. Mira could fly extraordinarily fast, but we needed a pace that would not frighten Lady Fabienne.
“Let us practise above the garden,” I suggested. “We can determine a comfortable height and speed.”
“Yes.”
“I am coming too!” Rosalia said.
“Kyuu!”
We went outside and spent the afternoon taking gentle walks through the air on Mira's back.
Lady Fabienne preferred to remain low and travel no faster than a galloping horse. Rosalia was delighted by greater height and speed.
I was accustomed to aerial movement from competitions in the game, so Mira's flight did not frighten me.
“You and Mira move as though you share one mind, Lord Julius,” Lady Fabienne said.
“We seem to understand one another well.”
“Kyuu!”
Mira turned and gently nudged Lady Fabienne.
“Mira?”
I understood the complaint.
“Mira does not want you to address them formally. They would like you to call them simply Mira.”
“Truly?”
“Kyuu!”
Mira nudged her again for emphasis.
Lady Fabienne smiled, wrapped her arms around Mira's neck, and met their eyes.
“Very well. I shall call you Mira.”
“Kyuu!”
Perfectly satisfied, Mira leaned affectionately against her.
