Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 180 Unbeknownst to Me

A few days have passed since I taught Axel and Ijidol how to practice magic. During that time, I also made a “magic potion material ledger,” and I can say that things are going well regarding magic potion-related matters.

And tomorrow is my day off. I will finally be able to go to the orphanage.

“Brother, tomorrow I’m going to the cathedral orphanage.”

“Okay. I’ve prepared the soap. You should also arrange some sweets. I hope you don’t mind if I visit in the afternoon.”

“Yes, that’s fine. No problem.”

It has become a daily routine for me to report on today's events and tomorrow's plans at the dinner table. It seems that brother Alex’s  final exam is over, and he seems to have a bit of a relaxed expression, but there’s something subtle about his face.

“Julius, did you know there’s a bit of a rumor going around the royal castle?”

“What rumors? I haven’t heard anything.”

I can’t help but tilt my head. I haven’t heard any rumors from Axel and Ijidol that anything has happened. I wonder if this is a story that has not spread among children. Then again, it is probably a topic for adults. Is it about brother Alex and Miss Daniela?

“I heard from Daniela-sama that the commander of the knights is singing your praises. She had heard this from His Majesty the King.”

“Why!? This is the first time I’m hearing of this.”

Why is that so? I'm sure there wasn't any talk like that when we were practicing swordsmanship. It’s true that I’m putting a lot of strain on Axel and training him so that he wouldn’t find out, but…did he find out?

Maybe he’s watching me unbeknownst to me. I let my guard down because he didn’t say anything.

"that look, It seems you remember. It seems to be spreading little by little among the knights. And then there’s, Ijidol Capuçon. You know him, don't you, Julius?"

“Yes, of course. We’re friends.”

What’s the matter? Is it Ijidol this time? I don’t think I did anything special with Ijidol. I didn’t teach him any powerful magic, nor did I teach him any strange magic. When I twisted my neck, my brother looked troubled.

"It seems you don't remember it. It seems that Ijidol Capuçon's magic has improved tremendously recently. He has started to use magic without chanting. It looks like it's only beginner magic, but it's still amazing for a 10-year-old.''

"I see. I didn't realize that."

That’s not good. I taught Ijidol how to fire Light magic in rapid succession, which enabled him to use Light magic without chanting. That must have given him confidence. I have heard that he is working on various ways to be able to use other beginner’s magic without chanting.

"Now that I think about it, Can’t you also use magic without chanting That's what was written in a report from the knights that I read once."

“Well, yes. To some extent.”

“did you teach Ijidol how to do that?”

A suspicious look at me. Still I didn’t do it.

I taught him things that I thought might be helpful, but it was his own power that he put into practice and acquired for himself. I didn’t do anything.

“We practice together, but it's just that the talent that he always had has finally blossomed”

"Hmm, well, let's leave it at that for now. Even when he was asked, all he seems to say is, ‘It's the result of daily practice’.''

That’s true, isn’t it? That’s right. There are no shortcuts or tricks. It is the result of daily effort. Well, he probably doesn’t think he is making an effort, though.

They do what they do because they like it. They do it because they want to. I am sure that is all, and that is why they grow. People never grow as long as they are being forced to do something.

I don’t know if brother Alex was really convinced, but he didn’t ask me any more questions.

I’m trying not to cause any problems, but somehow problems are happening without my knowledge. It’s troublesome.

“I have purchased some sweets for you, little Julius.”

"Thank you. Well then, let's leave. Oh, please bring this wooden box as well. It contains some fragile items inside, so please be careful when carrying it."

“Of course, but what exactly is in the crate?”

“Magic potions to be donated to an orphanage, a sugoroku (a Japanese board game) and a karuta (a Japanese playing cards). I made them for the children to play with.”

There was time before the vacation. So everything was ready. I’m sure it will be useful as the colds here seem to be getting more and more prevalent. Besides, in the middle of winter, there will be days when we cannot go outside. It would be great if they could play Sugoroku and karuta at that time.

After I watched the servants load the luggage into the carriage, I headed for the cathedral.

Nobles basically don’t have any days off. They take their own time off as they see fit. Therefore, nobles who are unable to work end up working all year round. Some nobles may or may not work all night every day in preparation for the horse racing season.

Even when I was at the Margrave Heine house, I never saw my father take a day off either. By working every day, he probably avoided accumulating work.

I’m a child of a noble family, so I have to follow that custom. Eventually, I would like to adopt a five-day work week system.

The carriage arrived at the cathedral. I had given advance notice so things went smoothly. After making an offering to the priest, we prayed to God. After that, we departed for the long-awaited orphanage.

“Welcome, Julius-sama.”

“I’m glad you remember my name, Nero.”

“Of course I did.”

He is smiling at me as he says so, but there is something gloomy about him. Did something happen?  Upon hearing of my arrival, the kids gathered around, but there seemed to be fewer of them than last time. Maybe they’ve been sold!

“Nero, I don’t see Lelie, what’s going on?”

“That’s ……”

“Nero!”

I grabbed Nero by the shoulders and shook him back and forth. No way.
