Chapter 91

The headquarters of the Goddess Cult, known as the Cathedral.

Though it’s referred to as the Cathedral by its followers, in reality, it’s just a ruin situated in the mountainous region near the border between Stria and a neighboring country, which the Goddess Cult has taken over for their own purposes.

Internally, it’s divided into several sections: residential areas for the believers, research and experimentation zones, and containment areas for test subjects.

They are unaware of the true purpose behind the construction of this ruin.

Currently, within the cathedral, a follower who has been implanted with the “Clairvoyance” skill is reporting the approach of attackers. The believers are busy making preparations to fend them off.

Just moments ago, one of the Four Knights, Cordeau, the Goddess Cult’s highest-ranking warrior who had attempted to confront the attackers outside, returned severely injured. Furthermore, Clive and the bear-like man—Gilbert, who are also members of the Four Knights—arrived to assist, but Clive bore significant wounds on his arm and face as well. The sanctuary was thrown into mild panic.

“Damn it! That woman… If I meet her again, I’ll definitely kill her!”

“Come on, don’t be so reckless, Cordeau. I’ll heal your arm, okay?”

Mordi, the only female among the Four Knights, was dealing with the raging Cordeau on a bed while simultaneously healing the wound on his arm inflicted by Emilia.

In the deepest part of the cathedral, in a dimly lit room resembling a laboratory, a man stood fixated on a particular spot.

He was small in stature, unhealthily thin, wearing a priestly garment over a stained white coat. From his sunken eye sockets, a faint aura of madness could be discerned.

This man’s name was Margulis, the current leader of the Goddess Cult.

Margulis stared at a man who lay on the ground, wearing a robe stained with blood from his face. The man was already dead, and Margulis observed the corpse with evident interest.

“Hmm… so he’s dead. Nevertheless, he lasted quite a while. Perhaps it was a good idea to remove his eyes first.”

Speaking to himself, Margulis muttered these words. Then, he instructed a follower standing by to dispose of the body.

At that moment, Margulis had lost all interest in the dead man’s body.

Once upon a time, Margulis had been a devout follower of the church, but now he had no interest in anything other than research and experiments related to skills and Blessing Gifts.

This included the recent attack by Gray and the others.

“Alright, for the next implantation, let’s start by removing both eyes, and then… hmm?”

Just then, a loud noise echoed within the sanctuary.

A follower entered the dim room in a state of panic.

“Ma-Margulis-sama! Attackers are here!”

Margulis said this and immediately turned his thoughts to the next experiment.
