Chapter 81: The Close-Knit Brothers

Several days had passed since Moji became a familiar.

During this time, we thoroughly examined the capabilities of Moji’s magic.

We already knew from the first day that he could water the fields perfectly, but it turned out he could also handle land clearing, sowing seeds, and planting seedlings with ease.

But the most astonishing thing was that he could improve the soil.

By stirring up the harvested soil and infusing it with magic, he could restore its nutrients.

While this ability didn’t make much of a difference for the fields enhanced by my skill, it was incredibly beneficial for Lua and the others’ fields.

Previously, soil maintenance after harvesting was a labor-intensive task, but thanks to Moji’s magic, that issue was now resolved.

However, despite how powerful Moji’s magic was, it had one major drawback—his limited mana pool.

Each task consumed nearly half of his total magic power.

This meant he could only perform up to two tasks per day, so he would mostly handle watering the fields plus one additional task.

Even so, he was still an invaluable asset.

With Moji, along with the efforts of Mash and Thread, the workload for Sheila and me had been reduced to just the morning harvest.

Until we expanded the fields, our work would likely remain limited to the mornings, so Sheila and I decided to focus on other tasks in the afternoons.

“Thanks to Moji, we have more free time now. Should we work on something else?”

“Yes, I think so. I’ll miss working in the fields, but this gives us the opportunity to do other tasks. We should make good use of our time.”

“Agreed. By the way, Sheila, is there anything in particular you’d like to do or anything that’s been on your mind?”

“Hmm… let’s see. I have been a little concerned about the lack of a fence. We’ve been able to chase them away so far, but wild animals still come down from the back mountain.”

“If that’s the case, why don’t we build a fence?”

“That sounds like a good plan. We still have leftover materials from when Sid built the house, so we should be able to use those to make a fence.”

And so, we decided to build a fence.

Since I had been relying on NP (points) to purchase materials and tools, this was actually my first time doing DIY work in this world.

I was tempted to buy a high-quality Japanese toolset, but since I had just spent a lot of NP on making Moji my familiar, I had to hold back.

We made do with the tools Velvet had brought for us, working diligently when suddenly, we heard someone calling out to us.

“Hey, Sato! We came by to visit!”

“I’m here too today! So this is the farm where you and Sheila live, huh? Not bad at all!”

Turning toward the voices, I saw Rozzo and Sid standing there.

Sid was holding a DVD player, so it seemed like they had come to charge it.

“Rozzo and Sid? You two came together today?”

“Yeah. Actually, yesterday I showed Rozzo my DVDs, and this idiot ended up watching them until the battery died.”

“That’s not true! You showed it to me right when the battery was about to run out! You just wanted an excuse to come here!”

“As if I’d do something that sneaky. You just watched too many, that’s all.”

“No way! You totally planned this!”

The two glared at each other, but the fact that they had come all the way here together only made them seem like close brothers.

I couldn’t help but smile and stepped in to calm them down.

“Come on now, don’t fight. You can charge it as much as you want.”

“Seriously? You’re really letting us charge it for free? Man, DVD players are amazing! I can’t say it out loud in front of everyone, but Sid showed me some… uh, let’s just say some very nice DVDs!”

At first, he spoke in a low voice, but as he got excited, his volume increased dramatically.

Sheila glanced over at us, and I felt embarrassed, so I quickly held a finger to my lips to signal for him to lower his voice.
